I've read all the books in this series, so I was excited to finally get to read Jace's story. This book was high on the suspense and not so much on the romance. Honestly, it didn't bother me this time since the thrill of all that was going on kept me engaged and eager to finish the book as quickly as possible. But for some, you may miss the romance. It's still there, but Jace and Taryn fell in love years before, so their love story was only put on pause for the 5 years they were apart and we miss the gradual build-up to love that you'd normally get in a new relationship.
Jace was always the happy-go-lucky, food-addicted and loyal man with a tortured (literally) past we grew to love in previous books. I don't recall much being spoken about his past before, so it was nice to finally understand what he went through when he was in the military and why his heart was broken.
Jace and Taryn were in love for a couple years and had already planned on getting married and starting a life together before she vanished with her family one night without much explanation. All Jace received was a text saying she had to leave and she ended things with him. What we didn't know until this book was that Taryn was forced to leave with her family by the leader of a huge Texas drug kingpin. Her father owed him money, her brother was also a druggie and they (including her younger sister) were all forced into servitude to pay off the debts. She's been holed up for 5 years now trying to pay off the debt and break free from the hold Boyd has on her and her sister. Now she's back in Clearview to try and gather the $500K she needs to buy her freedom. What she doesn't plan on happening is having Jace and the merry band of honorable and bada** men assist her.
If you've read the previous books, you know how they work and that they'll stop at nothing to protect those they love. So you should expect nothing less from the group this time around. Only this time, we get even more than bargained for when some new players step up to help. That was a welcome surprise!
The plot twist towards the end wasn't really a surprise for me. I honestly called that from early on in the book. Maybe that's why I read so quickly since I wanted to have my theory validated. It certainly didn't disappoint, although the whole scene in which it was revealed wrapped up way too quickly for my liking.
For the first time in this series, the ending actually felt like ending and not an open-ended HFN I've come to expect with Ms. Grant. It was actually quite nice to get that closure. I do think there will at least be a spin-off, if not a continuation of the series with Ryan and Brick's stories (and maybe even Cash?). I can't wait to hear more about Brick!
I think it's a toss-up as to whether this book or Clayton/Abby's book was my favorite. This one definitely had the better suspense. But both are still 5 star reads.
This is my second novel by this author and I really like the story portion of her novels but her writing style just isn’t working for me.
I feel like her some parts of this story needed less explaining and other’s needed more then just a few words.
**I received a copy of A Cowboy Kind of Love from St. Martin's Press and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way.**
A Cowboy kind of Love by Donna Grant is the sixth book in her Heart of Texas series this is Jace and Taryn's story. It has suspense, betrayal and a second chance at love for both of them and characters from previous books come together to help Taryn get away from a bad situation. Now I have to confess that I'm a little biased of the subject because of personal family situations but know that it's a story so I kept an open mind when I read this book.
Jace Wilder has been trying hard to rebuild his life but when he sees Taryn Hillman could it be real or just a dream? When she shows up asking for help getting free from the drug dealer who has kept her family working off a debt. Can he help her with not only money but to finally find out why she left so many years ago. There's a lot of twists and turns building up to the end for a climatic ending.
Taryn Hillman tried to protect her family from her father's drug use but when they are taken and have to work off a debt. But when she goes back to Clearview with hopes that asking Jace for help will he help or ? But can she tell all of Jace's friends that it could be the most dangerous thing they do? But the surprise ending will be the most shocking for Taryn no one could predict.
Donna Grant is an author I never miss! I have enjoyed every Heart of Texas book and Jace and Taryn’s story in “A Cowboy Kind of Love” was as good as all the others! Taryn left Jace years ago without explanation. He has never gotten over her. Now she is back and in trouble. Thrills, suspense, romance and surprises. Everything you need to enjoy a nice weekend read.
Good love story with a little bit of a thriller thrown in. Jace needs to overcome his lost love until that love returns needing his help. Taryn is in danger and needs help to save her sister. Jace recruits the help of his friends to solve Taryn's problem. The ending has a surprise twist.
I love this series and the great family of characters! Jace is the book I looked forward to and was thoroughly entertained with suspense, drama and romance.
Jace and Taryn were once head over heels in love and then Taryn just vanished. Jace went on a downward spiral of boozing and misery for years. Thankfully, Jace does get a rational reason for Taryn abandoning him, but boy what drove her away was horrendous and still a threat to them all.
Taryn's drug dealing dad caused her to run. She was drug down a road of despair and desperation and is in dire need of help from Jace and his army of friends, help Taryn isn't readily willing to accept for fear of hurting others. Jace's friends aren't the type to back down from a fight or to help one of their own, and all hands are on deck to help Taryn and Jace.
Fast paced and action packed, the gang is on the job to take down the drug lord, but the with twists and turns are mind boggling!
Loved this book and this series! Highly recommend!

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
While this book is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone.
Jace is still trying to struggle with a broken heart since Taryn walked away five years ago. His friends try to help him move on, but he just can't. He thinks his dreams of her are feeling too real but realizes he's not dreaming because he spots her and soon they are reunited. Jace should feel angry at Taryn for leaving him, but she explains to him that her life is in danger and still is and she may need his help. Jace's history with the military could prove to be an advantage given what Taryn is up against and he soon recruits his friends who also have special military skills.
Jace and Taryn's reunion confirms that their feelings never changed and they vow to do everything they can to build a future together, but they have a big dangerous hurdle to deal with. There is a surprise twist to the plot that adds to the intensity of the plotline.
I rtead this story in one sitting and it had a good pace with suspense and urgency. I'm not sure how much "cowboy" was in the storyline, but it was still entertaining.
What can I say about this book...loved and loved. I welcomed the opportunity to read book six in this series., I've become a fan of Donna Grant after reading books 4 & 5 ,and A Cowboy Kind of Love did not disappoint. The story was enjoyable and well-written. It had just enough suspense, romance, and intimacy that I look forward to reading in my romantic novels. Ms. Grant did a wonderful job of keeping my interest from start to finish. A very nice comfy read on my snowed-in day.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this digital ARC in exchange for my fair and honest review.
A Cowboy Kind of Love by D. Grant, published by St. Martin's Press, is book 6 in her Heart of Texas Series and can be read as a stand-alone.
Jace is still in love with his ex, and can't get her out of his head. Years ago she up and left him behund, and that still hurts. He never got over it/her.
And now she's back. Taryn runs to Jace for help first thing.
Soooooo, Taryn is so not my favorite character in this book. Yes there was a reason she left and there is a reason she's back, but I think how unbabalnced is her character to hurt the man she battered so bad the first time. Ummmnononono.
But the storyline is suspenseful, the writing is great and I connected with the characters.
A fast paced second chance story that had me in knots, 4,5 stars.
I'm just fond of the characters in this series, but it's becoming less and less believable. Too bad, I think I'll stop here, maybe.
Sono solo affezionata ai personaggi di questa serie, che peró sta diventando sempre meno credibile. Peccato, credo che smetteró qui, forse.

I really enjoyed this book! Love, family, action, second chances...what's not to love?
The story flowed really well and the characters clicked. Jace and Taryn were so good together - there were problems, but they didn't drag the book down - they listened, they didn't try for revenge, they were true to themselves and each other.
The ending...I thought I knew where this was going, but OMG, wow!!!!
Great book, great storyline, great characters, great writing - all-around a wonderful read.
I requested to read and review this book from St. Martin's Publishing Company. Donna Grace has done it again with a winner! The setting is Texas ranch country. You won't want to put this book down. It will keep you on the edge of your seat. An intense story of love, live, betrayal and family. Can a past mistake be made better with love or is the pain to much. Jace is a stubborn head strong man. Taryn is devoted but is it to the right person? Do you know who you can trust? This book is for a mature reader. And can be read anywhere.
I cannot get enough of these characters! Each one is their own individual gold but together as a friend group it just a masterpiece.
There's nothing like the man who can take care of business unless you get a woman who is strong enough to do it as well. When you put love in the mix and friendships that mean the world it is something special.
Please write more of these and if it's not too much to ask, faster.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my...I really love this series and as usual, this book captivated me right from the start. I simply couldn't put it down and kept reading till the very end...and---wow- Simply - wow. It kept me on my toes, I was glued to my reader, sometimes grinning or smiling goofily, being furious, tense and everything in between. What a ride this was, straight from panic and pain to bliss to happiness to devastation and....the turns and twists, the wonderful characters, meeting old friends who I loved in the other books and this finale? WOW.
Now I am looking forward to the next book in this series because I can't wait to see what fate (and our friends) have in store for Ryan and Brick!
LOVED this book! Romantic suspense at its best! This book started quickly with Jace, drunk and imagining seeing his ex everywhere, doesn't believe his eyes and thinks she's his imagination. Taryn, the ex that is trapped in a terrible position, wants to see Jace just one more time, but wants to catch him alone, so keeps hiding from his friends. When she finally shares her secret and why she disappeared, Jace and his friends don't hesitate to jump in to help.
This novel moved quickly with compelling characters and a group of former special forces military guys that have the skills necessary to step in to help. I found myself totally engrossed in the story and flipping pages just as quickly as possible to see what happened next.....then the author surprised me with a twist I never saw coming.
Fans of the genre will love this book and want to put it at the top of their TBR list. The author is on my must read authors' list.
