Second chances for fixing the past to progress to new romance mixed with cowboy country lends to good read. Enjoy this author's Cowboys.
Ebook from Netgalley and publisher with thanks . Opinions are entirely my own.
I read the other books in this series so I was happy to get to Jace's story. Jace has been hung up on Taryn, the love of his life. She disappeared in the middle of the night 5 years ago with only sending one simple text message that her family was moving to start over. But Jace can't get over her even though he has tried.
Taryn has been living a life in hell. She and her family were taken hostage by a drug lord that her father owed a lot of money to - her entire family lived in horrible conditions and was made to sell drugs to pay off his debt. But when things turned ugly for Taryn's father and her brother, Taryn did all she could to protect her little sister - after all, that's what she promised her dying mother she would do.
Taryn doesn't know who to turn to in order to get $500k to settle her family's debts so she ultimately goes back to Jace. Jace and his badass friends come to the rescue. Man, this group sure does have problems they need to solve with all their women, but they ultimately get the job done.
If you like mysteries and romance, then this book (and series) is perfect for you.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. The opinions stated above are mine without biases.
Who doesn't love a sexy cowboy? Ha! Jace and Taryn's story is complex and emotional. No spoilers here, but I found it hard to put down. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I like Donna Grant's cowboy books. They always have a mystery aspect, so romance isn't it's sole purpose. She always gives us characters that are going through tough times, and Taryn has really had a bad couple of years. She was Jace's gitlfriend that disappeared out of the blue, without leaving a trace and when she comes back to Clearview Jace and all the boys are going to have to help her get out of a horrible situation.
As always we have this group of friends helping one of their own. Jace has alwaysbeen there for the others so now it's his turn. Connor is especially worried about him because he knows that he isn't over Taryn and he doesn't want to move on. Everyone jumps at the opportunity to help Taryn once she decides to ask for help.
I didn't love Taryn's attitude sometimes, it kind of grated on me that one minute she asked for help and then she wanted to do everything on her own. I understand that she didn't want anyone to get hurt, but they were already involved, Jace would never just let it go. Thankfully she did come around quite quickly so it wasn´t as eye rolling.
I wasn't as convinced about the attraction between the protagonists but I did like the mystery aspect of the novel and I love seeing everyone from the previous books, I think that is still the best part.
A Cowboy Kind of Love is the sixth title in the Heart of Texas series – and one I’ve been waiting for since I’ve had a definite crush on Jace from the beginning. He’s been through so much especially in the past five years or so since Taryn up and left town with no clear explanation. The fact that she’s not been around or in contact with him since doesn’t change how the heart feels and his heart may be broken but it still belongs to his forever love.
Taryn broke my heart, not because she left Jace but because of what she’s been through these past few years… and what she’s done and seen in that time. She’s back in town to seek help from the one person she trusts but she’s bringing a truckload of trouble with her and nothing is going to be the same for this couple again. A second chance? You could say that, but also a deepening of the love that already exists, an acceptance of who they are now, and a love that still burns hot and bright in spite of the time apart.
It’s really hard to not give away possible spoilers right now for I want to talk about this book. But, I’ll behave. A Cowboy Kind of Love is intense, full of dangerous situations, brings us back in touch with a lot of familiar couples/characters, and brings closure to Jace’s past and a wide-open door to a happy ever after for this man and woman who so deserve it after all they’ve been through. A bit of cowboy romance, a bit more of Romantic Suspense, and is chock-full of characters who will make your heart sing. I had so much fun with Taryn and Jace – and if you love a really good story with danger, true love, family, and a couple to root for, then you’ll feel right at home here. There are a few twists that I did not see coming and that is the type of story that will always grab my attention and keep it. I certainly hope there will be more stories in the Heart of Texas series.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
A Cowboy Kind of Love is a second chance of love romantic suspense story and the 6th in the Sons of Texas series. Jace Wilder is having a hard time getting over his heartbreak when Taryn left 5 years ago. Now she is back and asking for help in a very dangerous situation she finds herself in. Jace listens to Taryn’s explanation of what she’s had to do and endure these last 5 years for her family, and will try to extract her from the clutches of a drug lord. Between his and his friends military experience, they devise a plan to help both Taryn and Jace, and maybe they have a chance at a life together.
This was a riveting suspense story and I was engrossed to see how they were going to get out of this mess. The odds weren’t good and it took a lot of planning to get the right people in the right place in order to pull it off. What made the story sweeter was the love these two had for one another and still have 5 years later. The romantic scenes were smoldering and broke up the tension they were facing. There are a lot of characters that are involved in this story, and they have their own stories, but it isn’t hard to follow. It definitely can be read as a stand-alone. Donna Grant’s writing is one of the best for drawing you in to the drama, suspense and the building of a loving relationship. There may not be much of a cowboy in Jace but he definitely has the values of one. It is a story that can’t be missed.
This is a book where you get everything, suspense, the one who got away, romance, and action. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book. I loved every minute of it. From the first page where Jace thinks he is seeing things. to every momeent in between this is a must read.

We have finally reached the ending of another fabulous series brought to us by our favorite romance author and while I really wish the story had been a lot longer than it turned out to be, I loved seeing all of the couples from the previous novels come together in such a meaningful way to save Jace and his future. We have been in suspense for a long time now waiting to find out the story behind and the outcome of Jace’s love life and to see how the end of this series would come around, but Donna Grant never fails to light a match to the fireworks of love and set the world of fire in a huge way. I have loved this series since the very beginning and watched it grow into something truly amazing and unlike any other series out there, with suspense, family devotion and drama to rival the romantic connections of each of the leads. Jace and Taryn’s love story is one for the ages for sure, filled with pain and heartbreak and in the end the ultimate betrayal that makes a person wonder if there is truly a way to recover from some pains. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, second chance love, or just a truly amazing love story then you can’t go wrong with this one. Truly an amazing ending to a series that has left us more and more enthralled and I am sad to see it end for sure.
Jace is trying his best to deal with the heartbreak that is bringing him low, but his inability to get past the love of his life leaving him is slowly killing him, and his friends and family do not enjoy watching it happen. Jace is almost at the end of his own endurance of the pain, when suddenly he begins to see his ex, Taryn, everywhere he looks, making him question his sanity until he is confronted with the truth of her return once and for all. Taryn left Jace behind years ago for his own safety and the protection of the family she always did her best to protect, but now she has only one recourse left and has returned to their hometown. Faced with a love that never died, Jace demands the full truth not only of Taryn’s return but why she left and where she has been all this time, though he never imagined the story he would hear. Now they have to find a way to free her only remaining family from the hands of a psycho, keep Jace and his family safe, and hopefully find a way for them to stay together once and for all. But sometimes the truth is buried even deeper than imagined and when Taryn is confronted with the lies she’s been fed for almost a decade she has to come to terms with it quickly, or face losing the man who owns her heart and soul.
This story was entirely unexpected and surprising in the twists and turns that we were taken on, not the least of which was the depth of love that Jace carried all the years Taryn was away. Very few men are portrayed as such devoted lovers in novels when they are left behind in such an abrupt and abortive manner, making me love Jace all the more. That kind of honor, in addition to his sweet but alpha personality, determination, and sexiness made him truly the whole package. It was hard to see him struggling so hard in the beginning, but we were able to connect with him so much more and live his pain with him through that and as he healed when he learned the hard truths he’d always needed, it showed us his inner strength as well. I loved seeing how he interacted with Taryn, not just in the bedroom, but working with her to save her and her family, reminding her that she was love and wanted, and bringing her back into the fold of his huge and loving family to give her something she so obviously was lacking. Taryn has obviously led a troubled life, living so much for the family that she loved, but that never gave her the love and respect she needed in return. I was upset on her behalf through most of the book, but at that same time just as angry as Jace at some of the decisions she made, especially when the truth came out and we learned just how much she truly sacrificed for ungrateful people. She was sweet, and smart in her way, but it was obvious that she needed her blinders removed much sooner. I loved seeing her find her way back into Jace’s arms and into his family so that she could have the love and safety she needed in order to find her happiness and the steady and loving support she needed to flourish.
While I can honestly say that I enjoyed this story, I wish there had been more time for Jace and Taryn to spend on their reunion and rebuilding their relationship. There is such a tight and deadly timeline through most of the story that they are rushed in their emotional development as they reunite and try to find a way to enact the ultimate plan to save all of them. Jace is the quintessential cowboy badass, with the perfect amount of extra added from his time in the military and I loved seeing him getting to use those skills in order to save his woman. He was just the right amount of alpha combined with a deep and abiding loving nature to make him the perfect mate for Taryn. Taryn is a woman at her endpoint in so many ways and taking the chance to see the man she never stopped loving one last time is the only hope she has for a few moments of happiness, but she never imagined that it would bloom into her salvation. When she finally accepts his assistance and allows his friends to help they make the ultimate battle team, even when confronted with the unthinkable betrayal. The passion between these two was off the charts from the very first moment, even when they were just arguing, but once they allowed themselves the freedom to embrace their emotions again the heat became almost too much to witness. I am very sad to see this series end, especially with a few new characters introduced and some others that didn’t get their story yet, which leaves me hoping for the possibility of a spinoff series in the future. In the meantime I will say I loved every second of this series and the passion and family drama that Donna shared with us, and look forward to whatever comes next. Truly one of the greatest series I have read recently.
I love Donna Grant and everything she writes, I read everything she writes, from her oldest pieces to he newest ones. At the start of the series I enjoyed it and looked forward to more, but, I have to say that since we have moved onto the friends of the original three, I have gotten bored with this series. It doesn't keep me entertained or interested, and I am not sure why. The characters are good (not Reapers or Dragon Kings good, but good), the plots are well-developed and flow nicely (but I am bored with them) and I hate to say that about a DG book, but this series has lost my interest.
Taryn returns to her hometown 5 years after leaving without telling anyone. She left an already broken Jace behind, shattering his heart completely. Over the years he's tried to forget her but trusting someone has always been an issue. Then he begins to think he's losing his mind because he sees Taryn everywhere. Sudden she walks back into his life and he's at a loss as to why she would think he would ever help her after the way she left. She's in trouble but she's hiding the truth until she can't anymore. Once she comes clean, Jace and his team come together to help her despite the dangers and secrets that she never thought were possible come to light. If only she had come to Jace instead of running away, she wouldn't have lost so much time with him.
I love Jace but was not a fan of Taryn. Yeah, she had her reasons for leaving but I just couldn't with her. I loved that we got to see previous couples in the books. The story is more suspense than romance but that was okay. This one was just an okay read for me. I was happy to see all my favorite characters.
This took some time to get into.Once it got started I was hooked. but I wish Tayrn and Jace had more development to their relationship. The suspense part was surprising though I had my suspicions.
This is a good book.I enjoyed it but it didn't blow me away. 3 1/2 stars
A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant
Subgenre: western romance
Release date: 27 Apr 2021
Publisher: St Martin’s Paperbacks
Format: ebook and print
Length: 304 pages
RRP: $7.72 (ebook); $17.10 (print)
As with the previous stories in this series it is high on action and suspense. There is the FBI, former SEALs, local police and a myriad of other law enforcement groups! From the group of friends, it is Jace and Taryn’s story.
Taryn Hillman left him. With only a text message. It has been years but still the pain is intense for Jace, so much so that he is often drunk. Then he imagines he sees her in his home. This time it is for real, Taryn has returned. She has a mission but doesn’t want Jace to help, but wants to see him again.
Jace eventually gets the story from Taryn, then he and his friends develop a plan to support Taryn and get rid of the man who is in control of her life. Taryn wants but doesn’t want the help. She has been relying on her own wits for years and is a problem solver. But having this back up means that if things go wrong the man she loves could die. There are lots of surprises in store for Taryn when the deal goes down, but she knows her man will be there. I would certainly love to tell more about the cartel, buuuut that means giving away a few twists and turns.
Once the cartel boss is dead (I can tell you that one!) the danger is not over and there are still more life-threatening situations. Then this couple can be together.
There is certainly a lot of angst for this couple. They knew they were meant to be together, but circumstances were not going to allow that to be. If these circumstances no longer existed, then they could share a life together. The ride is fast and furious in this story. It is certainly a page turner. I did like revisiting with the couples from the previous stories and finding out where they are in their lives. But they would always look out for their friends.

There are quite a few romance tropes, and second chances is one of them and is definitely a favorite of mine. Jace Wilder was certain that he and Taryn Hillman would build a future together. Instead, one day she left. Now she is back again and this time she is hiding a secret. Jace has never really gotten over Taryn and when he discovers that she is in danger, he tries to put his feelings aside and is determined to help her, and perhaps find a way to trust her after she broke his heart.
Taryn had little choice but to return to Clearview after experiencing trauma. This brings her back into former love Jace's life. While dealing with issues that are plaguing Taryn, she and Jace soon find that fighting their feelings proves to be an impossible task.. Instead, they deal with the problems at hand, all while rebuilding their relationship.
A Cowboy Kind of Love is a great addition to a series that I have enjoyed since the very first book, The Christmas Cowboy Hero. Donna Grant writes the storeis in this series with great protagonists, drama and suspense, and I definitely enjoyed each book and am eager to see what next she has in store for her readers.
Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
This is not the typical type of romance that I go for but thought that since I have read other books in this series that I would give it a try. I can't say that I enjoyed it as much as some of the others in the series but it was entertaining and filled with lots of action and drama.
I think part of what I didn't understand was the complete about face that Jace did. When we first see him, he is drunk because he still is not over Taryn who left five years ago. He is anger at her and can't understand why she would just disappear with no trace and no explanation. Then, she reappears and when he hears her story, is ready to help her by giving her half a million dollars! I also can't relate to women who feel that they have to give up their own lives to rescue family members who are adults that can make their own bad choices and don't even want the their help!
It was great to see the whole gang assemble to help Taryn and how they just care so much about each other and the lengths that they will go to help their friends!
Now, only Ryan is unmatched so he better watch out as they have their sites set on finding him love and then we meet Ryan's cousin, Brick. Hope to read their stories!
There were also some twists in the story that were very interesting and added drama to the story. Don't want to give away any spoilers but I kind of suspected maybe a small hint but when revealed what just blown away - did NOT see that coming!
This second chance romance is the six book in the Hearts of Texas series. One could read it as a stand alone, but then you would miss all the excitement of the previous books. This book is about Jace Wilder and the love of his life, Taryn, who suddenly disappeared one night with her family- the night he was going to ask her to marry him. He has never gotten over her, the pain worse then when he was a POW. But now she is back and is in trouble and he and his friends will do what ever is necessary to help her, just like they have done before. Wonderful characters, an exciting, well written story, a villain and ultimate betrayal make this a page turning read.
I read an ARC which I received from NetGalley.com. this is my unbiased and voluntary review.
4 star
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, struggles, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first
The Christmas Cowboy Hero (Heart of Texas, #1)
Cowboy, Cross My Heart (Heart of Texas #2)
My Favorite Cowboy (Heart of Texas #3)
A Cowboy Like You (Heart of Texas #4)
Looking for a Cowboy (Heart of Texas #5)
This is Taryn and Jace’s story. Taryn not only broke Jace’s heart she broke her own when she left. Now she back and she needs help. Can Jace trust Taryn after all he trusted her with his heart, but she broke that. The chemistry is there they try fighting it but the pull is just too strong. Can they two have a second chance? Can they build a future? Or will the past she ran from come back for her?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I recommend this book.
It’s been five years since the only woman that Jace has ever loved disappeared with her family and he hasn’t seen or heard from her since. With no closure it has been difficult trying to move forward with his life but no one is more surprised than he was when she returns as quickly as she left and she has quite the story to tell.
Taryn had to choose loyalty to her family over her love for Jace or the consequences would have been dire. The life she has been living is really no life at all and she hopes that Jace will be able to help her out of the dangerous situation she finds herself in.
Although Taryn and Jace have been apart physically their hearts have always belonged together. With the help of Jace’s friends, they take us on an action packed adventure as they fight to overcome the past so that they can finally have the future they have both always wanted.
I love second chance romances and this was so well done! I loved Jace and Taryn so much. They were both great characters. I also loved the suspense aspect. I will definitely be reading more from Donna Grant.
This was a very good romantic Suspense read. There were some good romantic scenes but there was a lot of action and suspense. The plot was good with a big twist.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
