ARC for honest review with no compensation Received from NetGalley

Cowboy Kind of Love is book 6 in the Heart of Texas series by Donna Grant and a great addition to this series!

Jace Wilder is trying to rebuild his life after Taryn leaves him unexpectedly. Now years later he thinks he sees her but know one else does…until she shows up for all to see and she is in danger.

Can Jace figure out how to help Taryn? Can they rebuild the love that has never really gone away? Can she save her sister? Only time will tell…

Such angst, twists, turns, good vs evil and certainly didn’t see that coming around the corner…

This romantic suspense series continues with the story of Jace. For five years, Jace has been mourning the disappearance of Taryn. He had no idea why she left or what happened to her. When they meet again, it is because Taryn is desperate and badly needs Jace's help. I LOVED that he didn't spend a lot of time being angry and resentful - he just helped! Well, not 'just'.

This book has a lot of action, and appearances and support from characters in the previous 5 books of the series. I suspect some other characters will get their spotlight in future books -I hope so anyway.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for letting me read an ARC - it was an exciting book!

That cover sure fooled me into thinking that this would read more like a cowboy romance with some suspense on the side, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that was not the case. Sure, there's a second chance romance involved but the suspense element of the story was more than I bargained for and I loved it!

✅ Ex-military men
✅ Thrilling secrets
✅ Engaging story
✅ Perfect balance between elements
✅ Second-chance romance
✅ Intense range of emotions
✅ Mind-blowing, unexpected final twist

Granted, I was a bit skeptical about this story since I'm a series addict and this is book 6 in the Heart of Texas series, but Donna Grant did an amazing job of bringing enough backstory for me to follow the story along (although I did 1-click the previous books in the series because I enjoyed this one so much!). I admit, Taryn wasn't my favorite character at times because she kept changing her mind and getting on my last nerve. Fortunately, Jace was an amazing character to get to know and the secondary characters kept me engaged and invested in what was happening in the story.

All in all, a great romantic suspense story.

I have read several in this series and I think this is probably my favorite.

Jace has a painful history and was a POW when captured serving in the military. He thought he had found love with Taryn until her family moved during the night five years ago and she let him know she was gone via text. He was devastated and was still hoping she would return to him.

Taryn had loved Jace from the moment she met him. The two years she had with Jace was not nearly enough but she had to protect her family and in order to do that, she couldn't contact Jace. She desperately needed his help, even though he must hate her for leaving him the way she did. Could she make him understand that she still loved him but she had to save her sister from a murderer and she needed his help to do that?

I loved the story in this book and I especially loved how all of Jace's friends rallied around he and Taryn to provide the support, even at the risk of their lives. They have done this is all the books. The group of friends and family in this book is like no other. They are fiercely loyal and willing to take risks to save the ones they love. My one criticism of this book is the foul language and descriptive sex scenes. I think the book doesn't need it to make a wonderful story.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

This was a romantic suspense story with a dark, and dramatic storyline that has some action and surprising twists. I enjoyed it but was expecting a cowboy story rather than a special ops rescue to take down a drug lord.

This checked off everything I look for in a book. Was not disappointed. Really enjoyed this book. I will read more from this author. Love me a cowboy

A well written perfectly paced story pulling you in from the start. This is a story about Jace being told to move on from his love who left without a word. Taryn goes through some really hard times to protect her family only to see in the end the lie presented to her. A story with enough action that involved Jace and Taryn and their friends to keep you turning the pages.

This book was gripping from the first page! I couldn't put it down and read it in two sittings! It was detailed and characters were well-developed. Thank you #netgalley for letting me review this book!

A Cowboy Kind of Love is the sixth novel in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas series. This series combines adult love stories with thriller mysteries to present the readers with a page turning tale.

Jace Wilder has suffered much. The physical and emotional scars he carries after having been held as a POW while in the marines may have broken a lesser man, but thanks to a loving family, and a tight family of friends, he has rebuilt his life. That past pain may not even compare to that which he felt when the love of his life, Taryn Hillman, along with her father, brother, and baby sister, Payton, disappeared one night five years ago leaving only a terse text saying they had gone to start over. Jace has tried to put this love behind him and was doing pretty well until lately when he began seeing her back in Broadview and she began, once again, haunting his dreams.

Taryn is desperate, so desperate that she has returned to Broadview and all her past pain. She must get a half million dollars to protect Payton from their captor, drug kingpin Boyd Walters. Her first efforts are with the underbelly criminals in Broadview, the ones that had gotten her father and brother hooked. Her last ditch effort is to see Jace, hoping he can help save her sister. But, perhaps, it is really Taryn trying to save herself.

As Taryn opens up to Jace about all that has happened over the past five years he vows to help her and brings in the folks of his friend family, all highly trained military veterans. Between them all they plan a mission unlike any they have done before.

This is a very different type of Cowboy series in that there are heart pounding thrillers as a big part of the story. I did have a bit of trouble getting into this book, but when I did I read through the night, following the twisting tale and ultimate surprise of this well crafted story. I did enjoy this book and I do recommend it!

Awesome book, Donna! I'm reading the series backward since I started with book #6, but I've got 1-5 waiting for my eager eyes to read. A Cowboy Kind of Love Has believable characters I want to get to know, lots of action, and a great second-chance love story! It's a book I'll read again and recommend to romance readers who want a book they can't put down. I received an ARC for an honest review.

I love this series. Jace and Taryn were awesome together. I loved the story line, it definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what is going to happen, with a MAJOR twist thrown in there at the end. Glad they were able to end the terror Taryn was in and find their HEA.

"A Cowboy Kind of Love" (Heart of Texas Book 6) by Donna Grant is a terrific read. I loved Jace and Taryn's story. This was a fantastic addition to this series. This story was packed with romance, passion, cowboys, military, law enforcement, close friends, family, interesting characters, twists, action, and more. I'm looking forward to reading what happens next with this group of characters. Highly recommend to all fans of romance, cowboys, military, action, and series.

Jace and Taryn seemed to have it all and then one day she just disappeared from his life. She's the one and he's haunted by memories and he swears he can smell her fragrance on the air. His loneliness is even more haunting as his friends find their loves and settle down into their happily ever after around him. He is contemplating moving away when suddenly she's back in town. Is this a second chance at love for Jace?
Even as he's haunted by questions about the what, where and why, Jace cannot stay away from Taryn when she once again enters his life. Taryn however has tremendous baggage and she's fighting the clock and an insurmountable task to keep her sister safe from the monsters who have her. Ms. Grant leads readers into an intricate story of betrayal and crime with enough twists and turns to keep reader's brains swimming.
Jace and his friends are not the same people whom Taryn left behind 5 or more years ago.  They're blooded and have successfully fought many battles together. They offer their collective brawn and intelligence to help Taryn break free of the maze she's stuck in. Fast paced, full of surprises the group comes together to do what they do best and protect the innocent and punish the guilty.
A nice chapter in this series but the author has left a few hooks that I can see becoming hot and turning into stories into the future. Can't wait.

This series is more than cowboy romance because of the romantic suspense elements and the fact the heroes are ex-military. This particular book is a lot heavier on the ex-military romantic suspense than the cowboy experience. If you love second-chance romance with long-lost loves, then you will be a fan of Jace and Taryn.

I loved Jace's crazy friends and the way they stood by each other, no questions asked.

Jace is still trying to find his feet and rebuild his life after Taryn left unexpectedly. He sees her around every corner and hears her voice, until he realizes that it's not just his imagination, she is really back in town. And there is no way he is letting her get away again, no matter what. Taryn is afraid of getting Jace involved in her dangerous secrets, but she has reached the end of her rope and she really needs his help.

Jace's entire group of friends did not hesitate to involve themselves in all the intrigue. It was very exciting to see them work together to help Taryn. They certainly are magnets for trouble.

I was a bit conflicted about Jace and Taryn. They met up again under extremely stressful circumstances for Taryn. Jace was still carrying around a lot of anger about their breakup. And yet, they jumped into intimacy super fast despite all of that. It was like Jace had just conveniently forgotten all about the heartache she had caused. He wasn't very cautious with his still-broken heart. But the two of them definitely have something special and their closeness saved them in more ways than the obvious.

The action was fast-paced and exciting. And it held a few surprises towards the end.

This is book six in the Heart of Texas series. It's not necessary to read them in order, but it does help.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A Cowboy Kind of Love was my most anticipated release in the series and it was just as amazing as I thought it would be.

Jace Wilder has been trying to rebuild his life since Taryn Hillman, the love of his life, walked out of it. When Taryn suddenly returns to Clearview, Jace's world is upended. And after Jace learns Taryn is in danger, there's no way he can stay away. Taryn's life has never been the same since she left Clearview and she's been trying to fix it ever since. With a shot at finally getting free of the danger that has plagued her since she left, Taryn goes to the man she left behind for help. But when Taryn and Jace learn that Taryn is in more danger than she realized, they'll have to decide how far they're willing to go to have a second chance at love.

Jace has been my favorite character since we met him, so I was very happy to finally get his book. Jace and Taryn were very much in love before family issues forced Taryn out of town with only enough time for her to shoot Jace a goodbye text. Due to the abrupt and forced end of their relationship, neither of them ever really got over one another. I thought the scene where Taryn explained what happened was well done and I liked that Jace didn't hold a grudge against Taryn for something that wasn't her fault. The chemistry between these two is off the charts and the steamy scenes are fantastically done. The problem Taryn found herself involved in was interesting and I found the resolution to be suspenseful and overall very well done.

A Cowboy Kind of Love is the sixth and, for now, final book in the Heart of Texas series. Each book works well as a standalone and this one is no exception. The plot is self-contained and doesn't rely on anything that happened in previous books. However, this series does have an extensive cast of characters so I do recommend reading the other books before reading this one. The various couples all make appearances in A Cowboy Kind of Love and you'll have a much better idea who everyone is if you've read the other books.

Overall A Cowboy Kind of Love was a fantastic read and I highly recommend this series if you're looking for a some great cowboy romances with suspense elements.

Donna Grant’s new series, “Heart Of Texas” continues with her next book, “A Cowboy Kind Of Love”, yet another story of lost love and regrets, of second chances and a happily ever after.

Jace Wilder and Taryn Hillman have a lot of past hurt and pain that needs to be put to rest before they can actually dream of a future. Taryn has a terrifying past that continues to haunt her and Jace needs to decides if he wants to grab the second chance he got, and lay down his life to take what belongs to him.

Another fast read from Donna Grant, as always captivating her readers with a story of love, forgiveness and hope. She’s one author who does tremendous justice to paranormal as well as a romance with an ease of mastery.

Jace and Taryn will take you on a ride you can’t forget.

Received an ARC from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley for an honest review.

Returning to the sexy men in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas was such a delight.. I’ve loved this series since the first book, and this second chance romantic suspense might just be my favorite of them all. It’s pulse-pounding action from almost the moment Jace’s former flame — and one true love — Taryn returns to Clearview to ask for his help. The only problem? The kind of help she needs leads them straight into danger.

—————

Friends, I think we need to talk.

Now, don’t panic. I’m not breaking up with you — no way, no how. But I need you to know that I flove cowboys. And I know what you’re thinking, Beth, you love everything. That’s simply not true, just ask my husband. #Sarcasm #JustKidding

My love of cowboys is well known around these parts — Donna and I have discussed the virtue of men in chaps, repairing fences (they’re always repairing fences, that’s not just me, surely?), and generally being swoony. Verdict: she’s not quite as far down the cowboy fangirl path as I, but I have hope for her yet. My personal love was born all the way back in 2014, when I was still a f̶r̶e̶s̶h̶-̶f̶a̶c̶e̶d̶,̶ ̶w̶e̶l̶l̶ ̶r̶e̶s̶t̶e̶d̶ new mother with a breastfeeding baby and a new-ish love for reading romance books on Kindle, and had picked up a few freebies that’d been shared on a blog I followed.

Some of them, I never got around to and are still sadly languishing on my Kindle Cloud, waiting for their moment of glory. But one of them, Kristen Proby’s Come Away With Me did exactly what a free book promotion is supposed to do: it sucked me in until I had no choice but to buy and read every book that came after it. And one of those books was Loving Cara, the first book in Proby’s Love Under the Big Sky series.

It wasn’t the first cowboy book I’d read — a quick look back at my Kindle (and my reading journal) tells me I’d also read and enjoyed books like Nice Shootin’ Tex and Rustled — but there was something about Loving Cara that made me want to read more cowboys. And whew, once I made that realization, I did not hold back. I devoured book after book after book that, in Bites-speak, fall under keyword Cowboys/Ranchers. I won’t lie and say I loved them all; of course, in amongst the dozens of books I read through the nights when I was awake with my little dude, I found some duds. It’s an accepted fact of life that not everything is going to work for everyone.

But, on the whole, cowboys worked for me. *Sighs dramatically* I loved (still love, actually) the heart of cowboy books, because they usually reside within a tight family or friend group, in a supportive small town where everyone knows everyone else, and they all help each other find and keep love. Yes, there’s often some mention of church and Him, and as someone not particularly religious, it’s not always the most relatable, but when paired with an ideal world where we all just accept and love one another, no questions asked, it simply adds to that feel of goodness I get.

Since discovering my preference, I have continued to seek those cowboys out, developing a kind of Pavlov’s Dog reaction to seeing a one on a book cover. I’m a simple woman (read: basic white girl) at heart — I see a man in a cowboy hat and unbuttoned shirt, and I one-click. #NoShameInThisGame. Maybe there should be. I have reader friends that don’t understand my love of men in chaps and hats, for a multitude of reasons — including but not limited to the aforementioned use of religion in setting the scene, and because of the prevalence of old-fashioned mores in some of the more traditionally written books. But, at the end of the day, who’s to tell me that loving cowboys is wrong? No-one, that’s who.

My most recent cowboy read came in the form of Donna Grant’s A Cowboy Kind of Love. It’s actually not as cowboy-ish as one might expect from the cover and title. Grant’s Heart of Texas series might have those sexy boot-scootin’ boys to draw y̶o̶u̶ me in, but that’s not all they are. They’re also former military men (or in law enforcement), and their ladies are in trouble. With a capital T. That means action-packed, edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense, served in a downhome setting.

A Cowboy Kind of Love is no exception. From the first chapter it’s part mystery, part second chance romance, part thriller. Jace Wilder and Taryn Hillman are finding their way back to one another, but for that to work, the monsters in Taryn’s past — the ones that tore them apart in the first place — have to be vanquished. Yes, I guess it could be argued that there are some moments in A Cowboy Kind of Love that border on unbelievable and over the top. But hear me on this: I. Don’t. Care. I read paranormal romance with vampires and shifters and demons and angels, for crying out loud. Do you think an outlandish but exciting plot that comes complete with a romance that makes me believe in fairytales is going to put me off? Um, no.

The beauty in this book — and books like it — isn’t in the fact that it could happen in real life. It’s in the writing, the emotion, the way it draws you into the book and makes you set aside any prejudices or preconceptions about what’s real and possible and good and bad, and just lets you enjoy the experience of reading.

And maybe that’s one of the reasons I love cowboy books so damn much. I don’t live on a ranch. I grew up on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia, and now live in a North Carolina city that might not be large in population but isn’t exactly farm/ranch country either. Every page of a cowboy book is an experience for me — and it’s an idealized one. Where religion doesn’t hurt people and the bad guys are easily identified and dispatched. Where families aren’t separated by time and distance, and everyone knows how to cook the absolute best chili in the world. (I even don’t like chili IRL — I had it once, never again, kthxbye). Where that same family can gather around a table to eat a meal one minute and “circle the wagons” the next when one of their number is in need.

That’s for sure what happens in A Cowboy Kind of Love. Jace had his heartbroken by Taryn’s departure and all of his friends stood by his side as he weathered that pain — and continued to hurt despite the intervening years. But upon her return, explanation in hand and in dire need of a hero or six, they came together and fought for her, for Jace. For friendship.

And I can believe it because I want to believe it. I want to believe that the romanticized version of cowboys is the real version. Maybe one day I’ll get to visit Montana or Wyoming or the Heart of Texas and get a startling dose of reality, but until then, I’m just going to keep looking out for cowboys. Much like my fictional ranchers are constantly on the lookout for broken fences.

I wasn't a fan of this one. The writing itself wasn't bad, but I wasn't a fan of either main character. While I suspend belief pretty much every time I read a romance novel, this one was just way too far out there. Taryn left Jace, she comes walking back into his life with MAJOR drama coming with her, and everything is forgiven with pretty much one conversation. Uh, no thank you. Jace is willing to put his life on the line (and the lives of his friends) after that to save Taryn's sister who basically doesn't want to be saved. While I didn't enjoy this one, I would be willing to read this author again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.

This is billed as a aromatic suspense book. I’d say it’s about 75% suspense and 25% romance. Jace is living his life, but is stuck in the hurt and pain since Taryn disappeared and left him with a broken heart. Five years go by and she is back to reclaim her life, her love and her freedom from what took her family from her. It’s an engaging story that has you truly hoping they fid their way back to each other. In my opinion though this is apart of a series you can read as a standalone.
