Cowboys, romance, friendship, small-town community, and plenty of suspense. The perfect elements for an evening curled up with a book. A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant delivered just that. Check out my thoughts and see why I enjoy the Heart of Texas series.
A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant is the sixth novel in the Heart of Texas series. This romantic suspense offered plenty of heat and surprises.
This story belongs to Jace Wilder, and while this is sixth in a series, each book has its own storyline and romance.
Jace is a former Marine Raider, who had his heart broken when the girl he planned to marry left without so much as a goodbye. With the help of his friends he has been trying to move on with his life… but there have been stumbling blocks, like the anniversary of the night they first met. When Taryn Hillman returns, she comes seeking help and the story she tells has Jace calling his friends.
I loved returning to Clearview, Texas and seeing the men and women whose stories I know. Jace is a sweetie who has had a tough time. This second chance romance pulled at your heartstrings. Taryn’s story for leaving is a dark one, and she and her sister are in grave danger.
It was fun seeing the gang come together to aid Jace and Tarayn. Grant delivered plenty of suspense and did so while throwing in twists, secrets and jaw dropping discoveries.
Despite the incredibly fast-paced tempo of this story, Grant made this second chance romance feel genuine. She delivered heat, tender moments and allowed the reader to feel connected.
Topics addressed include PTSD, drug lords, trafficking, and special ops. I am looking forward to returning to Clearview for more stories.
I’m not a huge fan of contemporary romance but give me second chance romance in any genre and I’ll give it a go!
This book has a bit of it all. Romance, suspense, family and friendship. Some of it seemed predictable but it wasn’t any less enjoyable.
A lot of old characters make appearances and add volume to the story. If you’re into contemporary or Cowboy reads this one might be for you but it doesn’t focus on that type of lifestyle 100% percent. This is more of a suspenseful book if anything.
I would recommend reading the books before if you want full understanding of these characters in relation to each other.
This outstanding book had me drawn in immediately. I loved the unpredictable storyline, it kept me going to the end. I felt for Taryn and all she went through, Jace loved her so much he couldn’t let her go. There was so much danger, drama, suspense, intrigue, twists, and surprises on most pages. The chemistry and passion between Jace and Taryn is sizzling. I loved how many were willing to step up when necessary.
Not your typical cowboy romance, this book is non-stop action. Full of twists and turns I didn’t see coming, this story keeps the adrenaline pumping without end. Trying to raise money to escape from the drug dealers she and her sister have been slaves to for five years, Taryn returns to the hometown the drug dealers took her from five years ago. She crosses paths with Jace, the love of her life from whom she vanished those five years ago. Once they work through the abandonment issues, Jace and his buddies offer to help Taryn rescu her sister and escape the drug lord once and for all. Oh my, what a ride! This book just doesn’t quit, with one thing after another. We’ve got ex special forces guys planning assaults, undercover agents double crossing(?) their buddies, law enforcement helping or getting in the way. So much going on, it’s just a hold on for the ride kind of story, and a really great read. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher. This is my freely given, honest review.
A Cowboy Kind of Love is Book 6 of Donna Grant's Heart of Texas series. I was a bit hesitant to jump in since I had not yet read a single book in this series. Needless to say I followed along just fine although I plan to go back and catch up on the earlier stories when I get a chance.
This story was a fast-paced, engaging romantic suspense and I enjoyed immensely.
A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant is another in the Heart of Texas series, all of which have been suspense/thrillers as well as cowboy romances. In fact, cowboy stuff is rarely mentioned. Jace has spent another evening getting drunk...really drunk. It happens when the memories of Taryn got to be too much. She had left him...five years ago...just a text message. No real reason. He whole family had gone. Tonight he saw her in his kitchen, right before he passed out. The next day he saw her in a car, at a stoplight. He was sure. He tried to follow her but lost her, looked around at where she might be and spotted a motel. A drive through the parking lot couldn't hurt, could it? There was the car. He went to the office and bullied them to tell him the room number. She was here. She let him in. Things started going uphill, or downhill, from here, depending on how you looked at it.
I love Donna Grant's writing but it gets a little far-fetched at times. Too much danger. We never read about this stuff in the newspaper. A bunch of ex-servicemen go after the head of a major drug gang, and all kinds of different law enforcement agencies back them up? People die and no charges are filed? Terrific characters and really, a fun read, so long as the reader does not take it too seriously. I enjoyed it. Love this series.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of A Cowboy Kind of Love by Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. #netgalley #acowboykindoflove
In contemporary romance a cowboy can still have my heart go a pitter-patter. Jace does in this one with him going on without his love. That does change though when she comes unexpectedly back shaking everything up. Taryn is the love and the one who shakes things up again but she has her reasons. Mystery is the cloak she wears with Jace feeling the need to protect her. along with that is a second chance with us readers clapping for that. Turn the pages on this one to see it their paths stay the same.
Another fantastic addition to this thrilling series! Hunky former military cowboys! I’m in heaven with all the testosterone bouncing off the pages of this book. The war hero/cowboy Jace and his brothers-in-arms are outstanding as they love, laugh and fight for right. Jace has a second chance at love when his love Taryn pops back into his life after disappearing years ago. She needs his help to save her sister and get her out of an untenable situation. Ugh, drug dealers suck! And this one is bad. Jace and his buddies are ready to take down the evil baddies and save Taryn. I love this group of guys and their fabulous women. A lively action adventure with suspense, danger and a surprise twist that was fast paced after a few set up chapters. Jace and Taryn had a few things to work through before we got to the hot romance and the save-the-day portion of the story when all the hunky cowboys jumped in to assist. Tons of action as the crew takes on the drug kingpin and his cohorts. Nail biting suspense when things go sideways and Taryn is in danger. But Jace is there to save his woman. Terrific ending with a possible tease for the new story. Can’t wait!
Looking for action, danger, drama, romance, a second chance and a visit to a town and people that are all amazing then look no further than A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE

This was my first book by Donna Grant. A Cowboy Kind of Love is an entire story in one book, even though it's the newest entry in a series. Wow! I love a good cowboy story! This one is a little different with the addition of the suspense story line along with the love story. But there is quite a love story as well!
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I really need to read this whole series!
Jace and Taryn's story reminded me how much I have enjoyed the Donna Grant books that I've read in the past. A Cowboy Kind of Love was a nice mix of suspense and second chance romance. The story is well paced with enough twist and turns to make it hard to put the book down.
I do feel like it took me a little bit to connect with Taryn as a character, but I did like her more as the story progressed. Jace was my favorite part of the book. He was a great guy who just wanted to be with the woman he loves and to protect her. Even after years apart it was easy to see the connection between them and that they never truly stopped loving each other.
This can be read as a standalone, but it is connected to the other books in the series.
OMG - What a fantastic read that immediately grabbed my attention and kept me totally immersed in all that was happening from beginning to end - hanging onto the edge of my seat and turning the page as fast as I could to see what was going to happen. I loved sexy cowboy Jace Wilder who gets a second chance at romance when Taryn Hillman returns to Clearview, Texas after being gone for five years. The secondary characters with their camaradarie and family atmosphere added much to my reading pleasure. If you enjoy smartly written contemporary western romance with the perfect amount of steam, suspense, emotion and heart, you will love "A Cowboy Kind of Love" by gifted author Donna Grant. I received an advance reader copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
In ‘A Cowboy Kind of Love’ we read the story of Jace Wilder, a character I have been curious about since reading about him in the previous books. Jace has been trying to make something of his life ever since the woman he loved just left him without an explanation five years ago. Some days he is doing well, and other days he just can’t deal and tries to drown his sorrows in booze. But then Taryn unexpectedly returns to town and even after all these years there is a lot of chemistry between them.
When Taryn first came back into Jace his life, he was understandable upset. But he seemed to forgive Taryn rather quickly. They haven’t been together in five years, but they sure seem to get back right to where things ended. Yes, Taryn is in danger, but I really didn’t expect Jace to forgive Taryn so fast. And even Jace’s friends seem to accept that Taryn is back without much thought. I really didn’t get that and because of it I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I’d hoped.
But still, this book was enjoyable and it read easily. The suspense part was fun, and although I felt like this part could have been a little longer as well.. It got me curious how things would end. And the suspense part made several of the previous main characters reappear. So that was definitely fun.
Characters wise I really liked Jace. He really had something about him that made me like him from the start. He is just so good for Taryn. Maybe even too good! But I loved reading about him and how he took care of Taryn. Taryn’s character on the other hand wasn’t someone I could really connect with. I just didn’t really get her.
Overall ‘A Cowboy Kind of Love’ was a fun read. Why there is the word ‘Cowboy’ in the title beats me though. I don’t really recall reading about any Cowboy stuff in this book.
Fast paced and full of suspense, A Cowboy Kind of Love will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Jace has had a rough time to say it lightly. The baggage he carries from the military is not what haunts his thoughts and dreams. That place is reserved for the love of his life who walked away without barely a word five years ago. Worry and anger have filled his mind and suffering a bit as to never finding out what happened to her yet his love for her has never faded.
Taryn is a woman who would and did do anything to keep her family safe. Taryn got pulled into a world of darkness and crime. The last five years I have taken a toll on her and all she wants is freedom for herself and her sister. When a plan in place and the determination of a headstrong, caring woman. Things are not all them seem in Trayn’s world, making her make quick decisions, on a dime, forcing her to bring the one person into the middle of this mess that’s completely wanted to keep out of it.
Donna Grant rocked A Cowboy Kind of Love hard! I was captivated and enthralled within the first few pages. Jace may be one of the greatest heroes ever written. His sense of pride, honor and loyalty are some of his greatest drinks. His ability to see past things beyond anyone’s control and that his heart continues to love like it never missed a beat. Taryn was not at all anything like I thought she’d be. She was dedicated and devoted and went above and beyond. Stronger than she gives herself credit for. Jace and Taryn together was something quite beautiful. They both were trying to protect each other with every bit of means they had. Taryn learned with the help of Jace that family is not always blood. Their story is not an easy one but it is a very good one. Emotional and heart wrenching with danger looking over their shoulder yet healing and romantic. Twist and turns are all over the place but yet the calvary of cowboys more than willingly takes it on for friendship and family.
Cowboys and Westerns might not be my all-time favourite genre but I will read everything and anything that Donna Grant writes. I've been following this series and I'm surprised by how much I enjoyed them. A Cowboy Kind of Love (6th book in the Heart of Texas) is by far my favourite. I love both the MCs and I was rooting for them to achieve their happy ever after. What a journey, it was filled with heartaches, hot sexy times, some light hearted moments and I ended the book with a very satisfying sigh.
I feel like you never know what you are going to get with this author and that was very much the same way this book. I feel like in the beginning it seem so twisted but Jace was not going to give up on Taryn no matter what. I feel like there are some tough subjects but the author does not hold back I really liked Taryn she fought hard for what was right and wanted to protect those who she loved. There is adult content in this book so may not be suitable for all. Overall I really enjoyed this book it will totally keep your attention that's for sure.
A Cowboy Kind of Love was another amazing book from Ms Grant! The twists and turns amhad me on the edge of my seat, throughout the entire book. Jace has always been a favourite of mine, through this series. I was so happy to hear he was getting his own book. His story with Taryn was definitely worth the wait! Thank you Donna for another great read!
A Cowboy Kind of Love is a wonderful second chance at love story. Jace and Taryn are a great couple with sizzling hot chemistry. Taryn and Jace were in love until she mysteriously disappeared for 5 years. When she comes back to town Jace can't believe it. Will their love be strong enough to keep them together or will the danger that followed her back to town end things permanently. A Cowboy Kind of Love is a great addition to this amazing series.
Wow this book has it all. Suspense, action, secrets, romance and a plot twist I did not see coming. The love of Jace's life and her family disappear one night. No one knows what became of them. Now she is back in town and needs his help. He will do anything to keep her safe.
Entertaining story with an interesting premise and a sweet romance, and a spot of danger and violence. Jace and Taryn had an intense romantic connection that left Jace broken hearted when Taryn disappeared. It’s 5 years later, Jace is still totally in love with Taryn and isn’t handling things well, but when Taryn returns to town, things start looking up. Taryn is in a majorly bad situation; she hates asking Jace for help, but she’s at the end of her rope. Love the depth of passion Jace has for Taryn! I liked Jace; he’s a total sweetie! I wasn’t a fan of Taryn; she’s okay, but she’s the type that’s so selfless that it’s detrimental to herself; being that type of person just causes more problems for herself because she doesn’t properly think things through. It’s commendable to think of others, but you need to know when it wasted on toxic people. It’s annoying, and makes her weak. I knew right away what the situation was for the twist to this story, and I was disappointed that it’s been 5 years and she didn’t do anything to better her situation. Also, I wasn’t a fan of what she was willing to do to be so selfless. The 5 year timeline was weird; I don’t get how things weren’t handled way before that without Taryn working to change things. Overall, I enjoyed the read! The story gets right into things, and I loved the connection between Taryn and Jace.
