Jace Wilder was taken prisoner, beaten and tortured for three months. He returned home to heal and found Taryn, the love of his life. When she disappeared from his life five years ago, he never got over the loss of her.
Taryn Hillman has been trying to keep her family alive for the last five years. She's been given one chance to save her sister and free them from a drug lord.
Returning to Clearview is risky and she can't resist seeing Jace again. When all other options fail her, she turns to him to explain her disappearance and ask for help.
They never stopped loving each other and once re-united Jace is determined that nothing will separate them again. He was an elite Marine Raider and he will use all his skills and connections to free Taryn and her sister.
There is no doubt the love these two have for each other, I was happy to see them get a second chance. The title and cover makes you think you'll be reading a western romance but the story is really about a dangerous rescue to free Taryn from a drug lord's clutches and their happily ever after.

I liked that this book was an action packed, suspenseful story, full of romance that brought Jace and Taryn together after she and her famlily disappeared five years ago. I also liked that the book brought back all of Joe's friends from the military to plot together to bring down Boyd Walters. Most people, in law enforcement, had heard of Boyd and most people were afraid of his notorious reputation. l could not put the book down, nor could I turn the pages fast enough to find out what was going to happen and if Taryn's sister, Peyton would be freed, and if Jace and Taryn could have their happily ever after. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
This is book six in the Heart of Texas series. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and cannot wait for more. Romance and intrigue together combines for a great read.
Jace Wilder is a former Special Ops member retired from the military and returned to his hometown. The woman he fell in love with disappeared from town 5 years ago and he’s spent that time trying to find her. Tayrn suddenly reappears in town and Jace follows her to get some answers about why she left and why she’s back. Taryn is involved in a bad situation and needs help getting gout of it. Can she trust Jace to help her? A true romantic suspense story with many unexpected twists.
Jace had all but given up that he would ever see Taryn again. It had been years and I was as broken hearted as ever wallowing in alcohol and heartache. Until one night she appears before him and rocks his world. Danger surrounds her and their road to happily ever after will be a fight to the death. Surrounded by his love ones he will fight to keep her safe and ensure they get everything they dreamed of all those years ago.
Well, I have been a huge fan of Donna Grant for years now so of course, I just had to read A Cowboy Kind of Love.
First off I have to say this is book 6 in the Heart of Texas series but you can read them as standalone.
I absolutely loved this book. I love the main characters and I love seeing some of the characters from previous books in the series. I do love the suspense in this book. I just couldn't put the book down and you know what? I didn't want to put it down because I enjoyed it so much.
I do recommend this book.
Jace Wilder has tried to move on since the love of his life, Taryn, left town with her family and just disappeared without a trace. When she mysteriously returns, he tries to find out what happened as he thought her love for him had been just as strong. After being around her for a little, he knows something is wrong and when everything starts to fall apart for Taryn, she tried to run away before Jace gets mixed up in her terrible secret. He suspects she is going to run so he has others follow her. When she finally tells him what is going on, will he be able to protect her. There is suspense, drama, and there is also somethings that are unexpected. I voluntarily reviewed this book after receiving a free copy from NetGalley.
This is book 6 in the Heart of Texas series. And it could absolutely be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the books before this one as his story has slowly been building. Especially in the last couple of books. In this one we get Jace and Taryn's book. Jace has been slowly trying to rebuild his life after the woman he loved just up and disappeared on him. Now she has mysteriously shown back, and he wants to know why now. Taryn is hiding secrets, and no matter how hard he tries to just stay away from her-he can't. The chemistry and love he thought he had gotten over, it's still there. But broken trust is hard to rebuild. Taryn's whole world fell apart in one night. Now she has a small chance of at untangling herself from the hell she is in. And when she see's Jace again, can she take a chance and find the life she once dreamed for herself?
I loved most of this book. I absolutely still love Jace! I think his strength of character and just who he is beyond phenomenal! I loved him in every snippet we saw of him in the previous books and his own story didn't disappoint at all. I had a hard time with Taryn and some of the choices she has made. And continued to make. I get it to some extent but in other's I just couldn't understand. But it didn't take away from the story for me. I still loved how it all played out and came together. This story has not only the angst of their past but there is action and suspense that kept me reading start to finish! And that twist! I definitely didn't see that coming at all!! Now, I don't know if this is the last book in this series. I really hope not because I am beyond curious about Ryan's story and his cousin! I think they all need stories as well!
First I love that even though this is part of a series it can be read as a standalone book. I’ve read the other books in this series and this one doesn’t disappoint......lots of steam. This book also had a great action story...very intense and gripping. Jace is just going through the motion ever since Taryn ups and leaves in the middle of the night five years ago, now she’s back and on his door step. This book grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go.
This book starts off with Jace still struggling over his lost love Taryn, who left one night with just a text message. He just can't seem to move on. Now years later he is seeing her in his drunken state. Even his friends are worried about him. Little does he know Taryn is in town and in deep trouble and can't figure out how to get out of it. When Jace and Taryn accidently meet up, things get a little crazy. She knows she needs help and goes to Jace for help knowing he probably hates her. It doesn't take long for both to realize they still want each other. But danger is just around the corner. Luckily Jace and his friends are all very good in tough situations. I found this be a really good romantic suspense. I read in in one sitting. It was intense and some good twist thrown in.
Book 6 in the series and can be read as a standalone.
Jace Wilder has a broken heart that is taking years to heal. He can’t forget the woman who left him an explanation. Taryn Hillman has been trying to climb out of the trouble that her father had gotten the family into. She’s been a slave to a drug kingpin. The only person Taryn can turn to is the man she left behind. Jace has never gotten over the love of his life and is determined to do everything possible to save her life. The danger she’s in just bring her A Cowboy Kind of Love that she’s always wanted.
Donna Grant finishes her Hear of Texas series with the story of a lovelorn cowboy being reunited with the love of his life he thought never to see again. A Cowboy Kind of Love reunites separated lovers that thought they’d never see each other again. These two along with their friends will work together find a way to release her from the danger that has followed her back her hometown. Danger, passion and long kept feelings take this story of a cowboy and his lady on a trip through betrayal and murder. A Cowboy Kind of Love hopefully won’t be the absolute final story in the Heart of Texas series that Donna Grant has written. I can think of at least two more stories I’d love to read. A Cowboy Kind of Love will have you wanting to go back and read the whole series over again not just this book and falling in love with all these wonder and heroic cowboys for the first time or all over again.
A Cowboy Kind of Love by Dona Grant is a second chance romance with a bit suspense. Taryn walked away from Jace and left him broken-hearted years ago. Now she is back, but can Jace ever trust her again? She is in trouble and needs help desperately and now Jace can’t help but be there for her. Can he get over the anger and hurt he feels? But when he learns her secrets, will he be able to help her? Their journey was not easy and there was a big surprise. A captivating read start to finish.
Happy reading!
When I finished LOOKING FOR A COWBOY, the only book I had read in this series until now, I couldn't wait to get Jace's story. There was so much about him that intrigued me and I needed to know more. Well, all of my question have been answered and I am one happy cookie right now.
Jace hasn't had it easy the last several years...and that's being nice about it. Being in the military really did a number on him but what haunts him the most is when his girlfriend up and left him in the middle of the night with nothing but a single text in the last five years. Jace loved Taryn with everything he had but as he drinks his nights away it's becoming clear that he needs to move on.
Taryn left with her family years ago but she's back in her hometown with high hopes of breaking free from the hell she's been living in for the last five years. She will do anything it takes to break the bonds for her freedom but will she put Jace in the line of fire? Can she even stop him?
I loved Jace and Taryn together, they had great chemistry and worked well together. This story had a major twist that I can honestly say I didn't see coming and that is a rarity. I have added the previous books to my TBR shelf and I'm not sure if this is the last of the series or not but there are a couple of other characters I would love stories of but I can see the author breaking them apart for a different series so only time will tell if that happens.
If you enjoy Western/Cowboy Romances, Romantic Suspense's, or Second Chance at Love Romances I would recommend this book to you.
Happy Reading!!!
**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for my Blog, Nadine's Obsessed with Books** Blog post will be live on 4/26/21
A Cowboy Kind of Love is the sixth book in Donna Grant's Heart of Texas series, and while I liked it more than most of the previous novels in the series, I had mixed feelings about this one, which I'll get to, but at best, I can only give this novel 4 stars. I liked it but didn't love it.
First, the very misleading title--if you're looking for a cowboy romance, this isn't it. Aside from a couple of horseback rides, this novel has absolutely nothing to do with being a cowboy or ranch life. Instead, it is a a dark, steamy, novel that combines insta-love, a second chance romance with graphic sex, and it's more a novel of suspense and graphic violence.
The hero, Jace, a former Special Ops team member, one who was captured and tortured, Once retired from his military career, he was devastated when the woman that he fell in love with at first sight, Taryn, and her entire family disappeared from town 5 years earlier. He's spent a lot of that time looking for her, moping and drinking himself into a stupor. His Special Ops buddies, who all seem to live in and around the small town of Clearview, Texas, have tried to help him, but it hasn't worked. In the previous novels, these men all found their perfect partners, and it was easy to assume that Jace would do the same.
Then suddenly, Taryn, reappears in town, but she isn't forthcoming about why, nor does she seek out Jace--she's looking to score $500,000, but is unsuccessful. When her last straw is asking Jace for the money, they reconnect and reaffirm their love for one another, verbally and sexually, there's still a lot going on that Taryn is unwilling to discuss. What Jace doesn't know about her situation is a lot, but he's about to find out.
While I felt that the early part of this novel didn't have much forward momentum, when Taryn finally comes to Jace and asks him for the money, the pace picks up and all the Special Ops, undercover, local and state police and FBI friends get involved in Taryn's predicament and rescue, but there's more than one curveball I wasn't expecting, and the last third of this novel was so suspenseful and dangerous to all concerned that it had me riveted to this story, and just when you think it's over, it isn't--there's still one more curveball.
There was one other problem I had, and it was with the way Taryn was introduced. I believe I would have appreciated more character development. All we know was that it was love/lust at first sight for both of them, but aside from waxing poetic about her beauty and physical perfection, what was it about her that Jace loved so deeply? What did she love about Jace? These are questions that I would have appreciated the author expanding upon.
Taking the novel as a whole, I certainly think the title was misleading, the character development could have used some more attention, but as romantic suspense novels go, while it took a while to get going, it ended up being a rather well-written, engrossing and exciting read.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
I ended up DNFing but only because I couldn't get attached with the characters. I know this is probably my own fault for not reading the previous books in this series. I felt there wasn't enough character background for me to be invested in their story. Otherwise this book is wonderful!
Taryn is the one woman Jace Wilder has never been able to forget. Five years ago she disappeared in the middle of the night and Jace hasn't heard from her since. Though he's tried to find her, his efforts have been fruitless, but her memory continues to haunt him.
Five years ago Taryn was ripped from her life, forced to leave Clearview and everything and everyone she knew behind. Now she's in trouble and back in Clearview. Though she doesn't want him involved, Jace is the only one she can turn to for help. Jace is wary when Taryn shows up at his door, unsure if he should trust his feelings. When he discovers the danger following her he knows he's the only one who can protect her. If only she'll let him.
This conclusion to the Heart of Texas series gives us the chance to visit favorite characters once more. While it is part of the series, it can be read as a stand alone delivering emotion, suspense, action and a twist no one saw coming. It's not to be missed, and if it's your introduction to the series, it will make you eager to go back and read the other books in the series.
An awesome page turner from start to finish. Jace is the tortured hero. He cannot get over losing his girlfriend Taryn. He is a former SEAL and a cowboy. He is passionate and will do anything for his friends and family. Taryn is trapped in a no win situation. She has never stopped loving Jace and is still trying to protect him. This is a story you will absolutely enjoy reading. Just like the others in the series, it is about brotherhood, friendship and family. These guys will do anything for each other and the ones they love without question. The story is well written with wonderful characters that you can get invested in. Jace and Taryn fight for their love and get their wonderful happy ending.
Very good book and one that I recommend. I struggled with Taryn sometimes because she was depicted as a strong character but she had some uncharacteristically weak moments. Nothing wrong with Jace, though. There's a bit of heat, lots of intrigue and a well told plot here. I look forward to the other books in the series.
Phenomenal second-chance romance that is intense, surprising and completely unexpected. Jace’s heart shattered the day Taryn left Clearview without a trace. For 5 years he has built a half a life while he carries the hole in his heart from her departure. When she suddenly reappears, he wants to hate her while he hugs her, knowing that his heart has been restored. Taryn has been struggling and fighting to survive as a pawn for Boyd, a powerful drug lord. She has a shot to break free to save herself and her sister which leads her back to Jace for help but will he want help her. Taryn has incredible strength and courage to endure everything that has been thrown at her. Reaching out to Jace is hard for her because of how she had to leave but what she finds, is a family of people that will do anything to help her be safe. Will she also find the love she walked away from? Or is it too late for forgiveness? I was pulled in from the start and intrigued by this unpredictable and exciting journey. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
Honestly, this book was a DNF for me. That’s something I never do, but I couldn’t make it past 30% before I waived the white flag. This isn’t a cowboy romance, it’s hardly a romance from the little I’ve read. Taryn isn’t a sympathetic character in my mind and Jace deserved better, but he’s built her up to be some sort of paragon and forgave her right away.
I might have been more invested if I read the previous books in the series, but if Jace has been the character fans have been waiting to get his HEA, I think they’re being shortchanged with this book.
I won’t be posting this review on any bookseller sites, just fulfilling my obligation to NetGalley
