Crazy action in this story! Kidnapped and forced to wok for a drug lord for 5 years, Taryn thinks she finally has a way out for her and her sister. Things don’t go as planned but luckily she has Jace and his friends to back her up!
This book is the sixth book in Donna Grant’s Heart of Texas series. Technically they can all be read as stand-alone titles, but there are many minor characters in each book that don’t feel so minor, and the relationships and backstory can get a bit confusing. I’m still going to go back and read the entire series in order at some point in hopes that it makes a bit more sense when I do. For the sake of full disclosure, though, I have to admit that I feel like each time I pick up a book by this author, it’s a bit of a gamble. I’ve loved some of her books, and I’ve not cared for some of them. That seemed to be true in about equal measure. But it’s enough that I keep going back. The previous book in the series appeared to be the tie-breaker, and this book tipped the scale to the side of “I like most of this author’s books” even more, so I imagine I’ll keep reading them until the scales tip in the other direction.
Jace and Taryn’s story is definitely a second chance romance. Jace is amazing. He’s continued to love his woman even when she (seemingly) stomped on his heart, never to be heard from again. But when Taryn returns with a heartbreakingly violent excuse, he can’t let her go back into the fray alone.
This book felt more emotional. As in, the emotion was better conveyed in each chapter. It felt like the relationships and backstories were a little more cohesive, as well. While I can’t say it was necessarily realistic, we all know that sometimes truth can be stranger than fiction, so I’ll let that be. What I can say was a pleasant surprise, though, is that the twist was NOT one I saw coming until I was in the middle of reading the big reveal scene. So, while I was able to put this book down and walk away for bits of time, when it came to that, I was a bit floored (and that is a good thing!). All in all, I felt that this was a better story than the previous book, so they all seem to be improving as this series goes along.
NICUnurse’s Rating: I give A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant 4 out of 5 stars!
Thanks go to the publisher and Net-Galley for the complimentary electronic copy of A Cowboy Kind of Love by Donna Grant. I voluntarily agreed to read and review this book prior to publication. My opinions are my own and nothing has influenced my rating.
A Cowboy Kind of Love is a well written western romance with engaging characters and an emotionally charged plot. The pacing pulled me into the story from the first page to the last. Ms. Grant adds greatly to the story with her suspenseful scenes!
Taryn Tillman is the heroine in this tale. She hasn’t been back to Clearview since she took off five years ago. I enjoyed her character a great deal, even though I questioned several of her decisions.
Jace Wilder is a great hero, and I quickly became vested in his character. He’s ex-military and hasn’t forgotten how to plan or how execute a covert operation. His loyalty and love for Taryn is amazing, even though I questioned why he was still carrying a torch for her after so many years with no contact.
The romance between Taryn and Jace heats up fast, and they pick up where they left off. I enjoyed them as a couple, but I struggled with believing they both fell into each other’s arms so easily after five years. Jace gets over his anger and hurt very fast. Nonetheless, I did want them to find their happy ending.
If you enjoy contemporary romances with a good bit of action and nail-biting suspense, then you will love A Cowboy Kind of Love as much as I did. I’ve enjoyed the Heart of Texas series. Happy reading!
More of the Heart of Texas books (#6) and we get the typical ex- military cowboys have to go and save the day. This one is no different Jace is still not over the love of his life 5 yrs later but she comes back or is he dreaming? Taryn can't find help but knows Jace will no matter what and need to explain why she just left in the dead of the night. I would recommend reading the whole series but this could be a standalone just don't know the side characters as well.
This one has some good old steam and is a true romance suspense with some good twists and turns to the story. I will be exiting to see where the next books go...hopefully Ryan!

A Cowboy Kind of Love is a story written by Donna Grant and the sixth book to the Heart of Texas Series. A contemporary novel with a few suspense aspects to it
It has been five years and Jace Wilder is still struggling to get over his lost love who suddenly left town with nothing but a short message. During his drunken haze, he sees her but he later thinks it was just his imagination. Again, while he was driving, he believes he saw her in the car that passes him by…
Taryn Hillman is back in town but she is trouble and needs help. She goes to Jace but seeing him in his drunken state, she changes her mind because she does not want to put him in danger. Luckily, on the off chance that it is truly Taryn, he looks for her. Knowing the truth about why Taryn left, Jace does all he can to save her from trouble.
This story involves two people who love each other but were separated due to certain circumstances as well as friendships, and loyalty.
I would recommend this book to fans of the Heart of Texas series as well as those who like contemporary romance novels with a bit of suspense. You may or may not want to read the other books first since the main characters from those novels make an appearance in this one. There are some unexpected surprises that will leave readers jaw dropped. Looking forward to reading the next one!
Talk about intense!
Romance and suspense, anyone? This book has got it all, plus cowboys! I mean, you can't go wrong, that's the perfect recipe. This book is great for anyone who wants some danger in their romance because wow! I was on the edge of my seat the majority of this book! It was actually fun to experience!
This is the sixth book of a series but I've read it as a standalone and enjoyed it all the same. I have a feeling Ryan's story is next and I'm super excited for it!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the earc in return for an honest review.
I’ve read a couple of the books in this series, and this book I think is my favorite. This was a pretty fast paced story once it got through the beginning when Taryn came back into Jace’s life. Taryn and Jace’s story is filled with suspense, twists and turns that I truly didn’t see coming, some pretty hot and steamy moments that you’d expect from Jace, good dose of romance, and an ending the has me reading quickly to get to the next page to find out what the heck was going to happen. The author takes it one more step and throws another twist at the end that had my jaw drop to the ground, loved it. I truly love the characters in this series, very close knit group of men who have served in the special forces together and now have each other’s back in life outside of the military. Love the setting of the story, and how this couple came back together after years of being apart, even though it came with some heavy doses of anxiety as they took care of business. I’m looking forward to the next installment that I know has to be coming for Ryan and Brick. Well worth the read!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book
I've been following along with the cowboys of Clearview for a while and wow, do these guys have some major adventures as they find their way to the loves of their lives. Jace (a secondary character in previous books) is no exception.
A Cowboy Kind of Love pairs Jace with his long lost girlfriend, Taryn. I enjoyed seeing their reconnection and the elements of adventure that went into resolving the thrill aspect of the story.
Having said that, I struggled with this story a little bit too. In previous books of the series, there has been a bit more build up approaching the major problem resolution, but I felt like this story dumped us right into the action. That might have worked better for me had Taryn not been missing in action for nearly five years.
I appreciated the romantic aspect of Jace and Taryn reconnecting, but the speed of it just didn't ring true to me. This is still good addition to the series, even with my small reservations, and has been curious about Police Chief Ryan.

Blurb: Jace Wilder has been rebuilding his life since the love of his life, Taryn, up and left town unexpectedly. But when she mysteriously returns, Jace’s dependable world comes crashing down. Taryn is hiding a dangerous secret, and no matter how hard he tries, Jace can’t stay away especially when Taryn is at risk. And especially when the attraction he thought he’d buried long ago is back and hotter than ever. Will he be able to trust Taryn again. Taryn Hillman’s world fell apart one horrifying night, and it’s never been the same since. When she sees a small chance at untangling herself, she takes it, though it means returning to Clearview and seeing Jace again. But when he vows to protect her, will Taryn take a chance, and this time, never let him go.
This is the sixth book in the series. I haven’t read the others. You don’t need to read the others to enjoy this one. This is a second chance romantic suspense. I was not vested in Jace & Taryn as a couple. Second chance is not my favorite trope and I felt there was something missing. If you like ex-military hero, action, suspense, with a side of romance you will probably enjoy this book.
Thank you to the publisher for providing the ARC.
When he thought that he saw Taryn, his lover who left him, he knew that he must have had too much to drink. Taryn was gone. Was she just a figment of his drunken stupor or had she returned to town? Taryn Hillman is in deep trouble and needs a large sum of money to pay off her father’s debt. Her father is dead, but if she doesn’t get the money, her sister Payton will be killed. She hoped that Jace Wilder, the man she loved and left, would be able to help her. Jace and his friends try to figure a way for her to deliver the payment. They know that the man who is demanding payment will never let Taryn go free and may still kill her sister. When Taryn learns almost too late that she has been betrayed, can Jace save her once again? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
A Cowboy Kind of Love was... cute. It dragged a bit in certain parts, but it was fine. I did think that there was something missing, as in we never really get to know how they fell in love with each other (I mean, besides the lines about it being love at first sight), because everything happened years before and there is no re-establishing of their love and relationship in a somewhat gradual manner - I mean, after they meet each other again, there's not even actual conflict in the relationship. It's all already sort of there, established before the actual book and the reader just kind of has to accept it and go pay attention to the plot about drug dealers etc. It makes for a cute, but not really rewarding and fun romance. 2.7 stars.
Grant doesn’t just provide a sexy cowboy book but one with suspense and crime lords, along with a few other sexy cowboys too. Since this is book six there is plenty of history amongst this tight group of friends in Clearwater. Their women have been in dangerous situations and the guys have relied on military training to rescue or provide their assistance. Jace is one of those protectors, he was actually injured in the last book, but the love of his life disappeared on him about five years ago. She had a really legit reason but she never told him what was going on for his safety. She’s trying to get out of this mess she’s wrapped up in but there are dangerous circumstances. Luckily for her the guys and their women aren’t shy around danger. Although some of the previous characters make an appearance in this book, Jace’s book can be read independent of the series. You’ll find the same intense relationships, dangerous situations and gripping storytelling in all of the books. Netgalley provided my early copy and I wrote this review voluntarily.
If you are looking for a true cowboy story, this might not be for you. Jace Wilder is a cowboy, has been
on the rodeo circuit as a steer wrestler. Now he teaches others. We learn a little more of his past in this book. His time as a POW and the torture he endured. Jace is a very strong, powerful man who has been thru a lot but still managers to smile and see the good in people. The only thing he can't get over is the loss of his only love. Taryn Hillman, after two years together one night she disappears one night leaving him only a text message. Her whole family is just gone. Jace's friends fear for him because he is still grieving for her. Then after getting over the top drunk, he sees her. He thinks he was dreaming till the see's her again in town. She's Back !? Taryn has been living in a nightmare for the last five years caused by her father and brother. She has dangerous secrets, that could get Jase and his friends killed. When Jase will not step down, him and his ex-special forces friends set in to try and put an end to the nightmare. Jase and Taryn want a second chance at what they lost.
This is a very suspenseful, intriguing action-packed story. There are steamy scenes and a romance not many find in life. So many ups and downs, you will be setting on the edge of your chair.
The surprise ending is the best, no am not saying anymore....
Donna has out done herself with this one. I love the other books two but this is my new favorite (I Think).
I received an ARC from the author and want to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am voluntarily giving it. Sure, hope you get a copy, all books in this series can be read as standalone but
better if read in order.

This is the sixth book in the series but is easily read on its own. A well written book with suspense as well as a second chance romance. I loved Jace but Taryn annoyed me at times but I did like her. I was drawn in from when Taryn returned & read the book in a sitting & I didn’t see the twist coming. I did love that a couple of new characters were introduced so this series isn't done yet
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
The Heart of Texas series is just getting better and better! I almost couldn't finish this one, because the suspense was killing me!
Of course, we meet all of our friends from the previous parts: Cooper (Looking for a Cowboy) and Caleb (My favorite Cowboy) are worried about their friend Jace. Ever since his girlfriend Taryn disappeared one night, with her whole family, five years ago, Jace has a hard time moving on. He doesn't understand why she left and only broke up via a text message. He doesn't even know if she is still alive, until one day she knocks on his door.
Taryn has led a hellish life ever since she and her family were taken five years ago. And now, she has a chance to escape that life, with her sister. But she needs help and she is running out of time and out of options.
So she turns to the one guy, who has never let her down and who she tried to protect all those years ago. When Jace vows to protect her, will she let him? And will Jace be able to rescue her? True Donna style, there are a lot of twists and turns. A lot of suspense, but also friends, Loyalties and family ties. An awesome read, five out of five stars from me and a special thank you to Netgalley for providing the arc.
Jace was amazing, a strong protector, who loved hard, and was just an all-around great hero!

This is the first book I have read in this series and although this is the sixth book in the series, I wasn't lost at all, I didn't feel like I had missed out on some super-secret major plot, based on the cover (yes, I judge a book by its cover), I was expecting a cowboy romance. But in my opinion, this felt more like a military romance / romantic suspense with a man that now lives in the country/small Texas town and wears a cowboy hat.
Jace is a former Marine Raider and POW. He was in love with Taryn and had planned on asking her to marry him…that is until she left without a trace in the middle of the night through text. All communication devices were turned off and five years passed. Jace is still not over the one who got away.
But what if the one who got away didn't run but was forced to leave. What would happen if she suddenly appeared back in Jace’s life? Would he understand? Would he forgive her? Would he be able to help her?
Taryn is in a great deal of trouble with some unbelievably bad men and when she exhausts all avenues for help, she desperately reaches out to the only man she knows can help, the one man she shouldn’t get involved in her problems and the man she hurt so many years ago.
This book is filled with suspense, a talented group of former SEALs and Special Forces type Alpha men, all willing to lay down their lives for their brother in need. But can this small group of men take down the evil threatening Taryn?
I enjoyed each of the characters both MC and secondary characters. The story line was intriguing and the twists and turns kept me up way past my bedtime. The plot twist at the end was totally unexpected and I never saw that coming and normally I can peg a plot twist fairly easily so Bravo Ms. Grant Bravo! I enjoyed this book and will now read the previous books in the series! Great read, definite recommendation!
A Cowboy Kind of Love
Book 6 in the Heart of Texas series

Thank you to the publisher for the ARC given through NetGalley for review. All opinions are my own.
A Cowboy Kind of Love was an action packed, fast paced story. Taryn goes back to the Clearview after some years of having been taken away along with her family. She left Jace behind brokenhearted and without a clue of why she left.
She has returned and she is in need of help. She has been involved in some things that she only did to protect the only family she had left, her sister. After an encounter with Jace, sparks fly between them again, and after he learns her truths he is determined to help her out and saving her sister.
There really wasn't much romance in the story. I think it played second to the all the action that was happening and to be honest I didn't mind at all. I really liked the story. I enjoyed reading how they were planning to help Taryn out. There is a great amount of characters from the previous books that decide to help Taryn and Jace.
I highly recommend it!
After reading the previous books, we finally got to the Jace's story.
But Jace is not at his best. In fact, in recent years, he has gotten worse and worse, and his constant visits to the bar have made his friends worried about him.
Jace has been like this since the greatest love of his life, Taryn, left, leaving only a message that she and her family would start over in another city, cutting any contact with him.
Devastated, Jace cannot move on. And to make matters worse, the last time he drank too much, he's sure he saw Taryn at his house - or someone very similar to her.
Taryn, in fact, never had a chance to live that love with Jace.
From the beginning, her father was against their relationship, and over time and distance, Taryn found herself increasingly responsible for trying to keep the family together; her father raised a very high debt because of drugs, who also put her sister Payton in danger.
To pay a debt, Taryn had to resort to shady means.
And the more she tries to resolve the situation, the more confusion she finds herself in.
When Jace and friends discover her whereabouts and the danger that surrounds her, all his training - and his great friends - could help her.
At first, the story seems a little depressing, seeing Jace sink into alcohol, and Taryn, getting involved with the wrong guys.
But the plot twist gives a story up, leaving the reader completely amazed.

There's something about a hero how loves his heroine long after she's gone because he KNOWS she's his one and only. That alone will make a reader swoon and want to know more. Jace and Taryn are meant for each other and if anyone can save Taryn it's Jace and his buddies.
One of my favorite parts of series like Hearts of Texas is getting to see characters from previous books again. Jace can't help Taryn alone so the whole cast is back in the macho toughness tagging along wives and kids. Taryn's dad's and brother's pasts caught up with her when she disappeared all those years ago. Through no fault of her own, and because she cared too much and felt to obliged to be her family's savior, she's spent this time away from the one man she will ever love committing crimes she's hates. Her return to Clearview is to get the money to finally set her free but in addition to the funds she's found herself an entire group of the best former special forces operators willing to do whatever it takes to put the man terrorizing her behind bars. Or in the ground.
I enjoyed both Jace and Taryn. I'm a sucker for love that transcends time, place and situations. Grant paces the action well and keeps the story tense and engrossing. I wasn't sure how she'd get Taryn and everyone else out of this predicament but she did and did it well.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC.
When Jace meet Taryn, it was love at first sight. And for two years everything was perfect. Until she and her family suddenly disappeared. Now it's five years later and Taryn is back. She needs Jace's help, but she's scared to approach him. He is literally her last hope...will he turn her away?
Oh my! What an excellent book. I am in love with Taryn and Jace and their book. There's danger, intrigue, happiness, tears, some unexpected revelations, and cowboys!!! I could not put this book down until I was finished reading it. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
I have to add that I'm bummed the publisher decided not to continue the series. There were several other characters that needed their own book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor.
