This was the sixth book in this series. This is also a second chance love story. Jace and Taryn relationship ended 5 years ago when she up and left with no explanation. Jace has never really gotten over Taryn and when she comes back needing his help he cannot turn her away. There is still so much chemistry between these two. If you are looking for a fast paced romance with a lot of twist and turns this book is for you. You do not want to miss a second of it. Thanks Net Galley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
Love at first sight gets a second chance.
Jace and Taryn fell for each other hard and fast and had a damn near perfect relationship until she disappeared with just a goodbye text. Now she’s back and needs Jace’s help and love more than ever.
A Cowboy Kind of Love is another wonderful blend of small town, cowboy romance and romantic suspense. Jace and Taryn’s love and chemistry is front and center but so is the danger and intrigue of her disappearance. Just like the other books in the series the whole family (the Easts, Harpers, Cooper, Danny, Ryan, and Cash) all come together to protect and defend one another. The family dynamics of this series always add an extra layer of emotion to each story. I really hope we get to see Ryan, Cash, and Brick find love...maybe one of them with Lawyer Leslie!
I received a complimentary review copy of this book but all opinions are my own.
I can't believe we are now on Book 6 in Donna Grant's Heart of Texas seies!
The fans of the series are going to be very happy to revisit Clearview and see the familiar characters. There's also a new love story- this time it's Jace's turn...
Jace's friends are worried about him. It's been five years since his girlfriend Taryn left him. He never got a closure. All she left was a hurried note...His family all disappeared leaving their possessions behind. But Jace just keeps thinking about Taryn. Sometimes there is really just One woman for you and that's it. Now it seeems that his imagination and his broken heart have been playing tricks with him- he thinks he might have seen her in a car in Clearview.
Taryn's life turned into a nightmare whenherfather and her brother got addicted to drugs. They got so indebted that a drug king pin kidnapped the whole family to keep them in virtual slavery and force them sell drugs on the streets. Taryn's father and her brother got killed in front of her. Taryn's younger sister Payton is the only member of her family left and Taryn will do anything to save her, including getting a hefty sum of money, a price for their freedom. Even shady criminals won't lend her the money, once they catch a whiff of who she is indentured to. Taryn is tired and scared and can only thiink ofone man who has never let her down- Jace.
Can the book be read as a standalone? Yes, Donna Grant provides a brief recap of the challenges the previous five couples faced on their way to happiness. Having said that, I think at this stage it is almost too much of the backstory for a new reader to enjoy the book fully- it is better to start from the earlier books.
The series is all about friendships, loyalty, families you are born into and families you make. It is about strong, protective men and strong, independent women. Taryn has sacrificed everything for her father and her siblings, so you can see how she fits in this close-knit group of friends. Loyalty is her main characteristic and, to be honest, we don't get to know her that much beyond this. Jace is clearly the One for her as she is for him. After all, they spent five years pining for each other...There are some very steamy scenes, once they get back together, so if this is not your kind of thing, you can skip them. I would have prefered a bit more dialogue, more emotional catch-up, but I guess there are different ways of showing you care.
The book is fast paced and there's a lot of action, especially towards the end, which is understandable, since Jace and his friends are all either ex-military or are in the law enforcement. There are a few twists that I didn't expect at all.
If you have been following the series, you are probably going to read the book in one sitting, and then will start waiting for the next story. Ryan's? or perhaps Ryan's mysterious cousin is going to get his own book?
Amazing, nail-biting suspense romance!
This is the purest form of a second-chance romance ever. Jace and Taryn were torn apart five years before, and Jace has never gotten over her leaving. When she suddenly turns back up, he finds out why she left in the first place and hoo, boy! His devotion to her is THICK in the air and there's not a soul alive who can't see how these two are simply made for each other.
Taryn's story will break your heart. She's had to sacrifice so much to protect who she could. She deserves every last drop of happiness she find. The situation that kept her from Jace was not easily solved and came with a few jaw-dropping surprises of its own.
Along with sharing their love story, this book is also a brilliant tribute to the strength of the friendship shared by all the cowboys in this series. These men have been through it all with each other and it's so wonderful to see how far they'll go to protect each other and their families.
There's a joyous HEA to celebrate, along with a couple hints about who's story is next in line. I absolutely love this story and the entire series, and I can't wait to read more. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Twists and turns that make it a great read!
Trying to describe A Cowboy Kind of Love in a sentence is impossible because there is so much to the story and it wouldn’t give it justice that is deserves because it is a really good story!
Jace Wilder never got over his girlfriend Taryn Hillman abandoning him and leaving overnight with her family. But when she returns to ask for help trying to get enough money to buy at least her sister and hopefully herself out of the clutches of a drug dealer because she would do anything to save the only family she had left. Jace and his friends decide to help Taryn but that is the start of a great romantic suspense to you that you need to read now!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A second chance romance with an intense suspenseful storyline…
This is the sixth book in the Heart of Texas series that can be read as a stand-alone.
When the love of your life moves on without you most people tend, with the passage of time, to get over it. This was not the case for Jace Wilder, former military, and a former POW. He’s never gotten over his ex who vanished after text dumping him with no explanation that made any sense. Could he have misjudged her so badly as a person? And then years later while in a drunken stupor he swears he sees her which makes him wonder if he’s finally gone delusional. When he learns that he wasn’t seeing things he’s torn between wanting her back and righteous anger, he wants the answers he deserves. But those answers are a Pandora’s box of trouble.
Family relationships are complicated and sometimes you can go too far for family that doesn’t deserve your sacrifices. If Taryn Hillman had learned the meaning of “tough love” she probably wouldn’t have lost five years of her life trying to protect her kin. Taking a slim chance at freeing herself and her younger sister Taryn returns to Clearview, Texas with a plan to buy her way out of the family debt that became her servitude. Seeing Jace again is a complication, feelings that never died surface. She protected him once by leaving, can she keep the truth from him again? Or should she let him and his band of ex-military friends provide her assistance? She’s tired of going it alone but doesn’t want to drag anyone else into her dangerous quagmire.
This book is a second chance romance with an intense suspenseful storyline that overpowered the romance aspect. There isn’t much related to cowboy life other than they protect their own as you would expect of ex-special forces men. There are strong friendships portrayed, the main protagonists are likable and relatable though there were times I didn’t care for the decisions the heroine had made yet I liked the way she stood up for herself after hearing a painful truth. Jace was an admirable hero but pining five years for a lost love is hard to fathom. There was a devious twist at the end, the possibility of what was revealed had crossed this reader’s mind but the sheer viciousness of it was unexpected. The plot touches on some dark themes, the heroine’s life for the past five years had been hell.
An advanced reading copy was obtained from the publisher via NetGalley.
While this is part of an ongoing series, it can be read as a stand-alone book. There are characters from other books that appear in this one.
I loved Jace's story! He always helps everyone else, it's great that he gets his own story and the help from everyone that's helped him in the past. Taryn is his past love and is in serious trouble, Jace to the rescue! I loved the interactions between them, they are perfect together! Great story, I hope there's more books in the series - a few more men need their HEA.

I've enjoyed all of the books I've read in Donna Grant's Heart of Texas series and this one was no exception. It was packed full of suspense and action.
Jace Wilder is still dealing with the love of his life up and leaving him in the middle of the night five years ago without anything more than a text. He wants to move on, but is finding that hard to do without any closure.
Taryn Hillman has been living a nightmare for the past five years. Now between a rock and a hard place, she heads back to her hometown and to the reunion with Jace she's dreamt of, but it won't necessarily be a happy one given the things she's dealing with.
When Jace and his friends learn what Taryn is up against, they are all in to help her given their military background. Will they be able to get her out of the jam she's in without anyone she care's about losing their life?
The story gave you plenty of suspense and edge of your seat scenes that made you want to know how it was going to play out, but it was well-balanced with romance as well. This was definitely an enjoyable read!

I've now read five of Ms Grant's Heart of Texas stories, and each one has been well-written and engaging. And A Cowboy Kind of Love was no different with plenty of suspense and action, as well as a second chance romance between cowboy Jace and the returning Taryn.
And with good pacing, the perfect balance of heat and suspense not to mention a big twist at the end this really was an enjoyable and entertaining read; and one I would happily recommend to others.
I’m not sure if I wasn’t in the mood or what, but this book was a dud. Jace and Taryn were a couple until Taryn leaves without a trace. In this book she returns and is in danger. She needs to get a half a million dollars to a drug dealer in order to save her sister’s life from a man who has already killed her father and brother. Taryn and Jace reunite, and he forgives her for everything and puts his life and the lives of a group of his friends in danger to save her sister. But surprise, her sister doesn’t want to be saved. The story is completely implausible, even for a romance novel. I didn’t believe Jace and Taryn as a couple at all. Maybe I need to read the other books to understand their relationship and the dynamics of the group.
Jace and Taryn were the stars of this latest release featuring a whole bunch of familiar characters.
Years ago Jace and Taryn were in a relationship when she suddenly disappeared, texted him it was over and he never saw her again. She never left his thoughts though and after a pretty heavy drinking night he would swear she was in his house. As much as he tries to forget her he just can't.
Taryn left to protect Jace but now she needs his help. She never thought she would be back in her hometown but she is and she needs help quickly if she is going to help her sister. Once she sees Jace again though, she can't put him at risk. But will she be able to walk away from him a second time?
A full story of twists and turns and plenty of story line action sequences. Loved catching up with old familiar faces and getting to know Taryn. Great read as always from the author.

Contemporary Romance
Clearview, Texas – Present Day
Jace Wilder fell in love with Taryn Hillman several years ago, but one night she and her family mysteriously disappeared, leaving only a cryptic message from her to him that it was over. Jace is still wallowing in the loss of Taryn, and one night while drunk, he imagines that she has shown up in his house. Impossible, right? It seems to have been a figment of his imagination until he spots her the next day in a car before it speeds off. Jace decides to do a little detective work and soon finds her at a local diner, where he confronts her. Can he get to the bottom of why she left—and why she’s back?
Leaving Clearview wasn’t Taryn’s choice, but she, along with her father, brother, and little sister, were kidnapped by a dangerous drug lord. Her father and brother are now dead, murdered by the drug lord in front of her, and her sister is being held hostage unless she comes up with the money that he’s requested for her release. Getting this money leads her back to Clearview—not her choice—but she soon discovers that obtaining the money proves impossible after the contact finds out who it’s for. Now she doesn’t know where to turn, unless she tells Jace everything—and gets the help she needs from him. Taryn is aware that Jace still hurts from her leaving, but if she involves him in her quest, it may destroy any chance for a future together. Yet, the love between them still burns hot.
Things soon turn tense in A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE as Taryn is being watched by the henchman employed by the drug lord. They are everywhere. All she wants to do is recover and protect her sister. Her father and brother were illicit drug users who started dealing to fund their habits. This led them into contact with the drug lord, who soon controlled their lives. As to why the family was kidnapped, it isn’t clear at first. Readers may need to wait to find out the answer at the end of A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE. Returning to Clearview, Taryn kind of knew that she wouldn’t escape Jace’s attention. She did show up at his house that night while he was drunk because she had to see him one more time. She is on a mission, but will getting involved with Jace hurt her chances of saving her sister?
There is plenty of action and drama in A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE, and along for the ride (and to help) are Jace’s brothers and friends, many of whom have already had their stories told. Check out the author’s site at https://donnagrant.com/ under her Heart of Texas series. Once Jace and Taryn are “reunited’ things heat up again between them, and it isn’t too long before they’re making love. She feels like it is “saying goodbye” again. With all the baggage she’s accumulated since she’d left town, there’s no way that they can have a future together. However, Jace appears bent on making sure she doesn’t leave again. Who will win that battle? Can they rescue Taryn’s sister and bring down the drug lord’s extensive operation?
A COWBOY KIND OF LOVE is a taut and emotional romance that is filled with enough suspense to keep you turning the pages. Find out what happens in this riveting tale.

I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining.
Intriguing storyline with interesting characters.
Heartwarming romance.
Heart stopping suspense.
Overall, a good story with lots of drama and mystery.
Thank you to NetGallery, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion about this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
While this book is part of a series, it can be read stand alone. Jace and Taryn had fallen in love years ago and ended up apart. In this book they get a second chance. The book has a good amount of romance and a lot of action. There are a lot of characters from previous books, but you don't need a lot of backstory to enjoy this book. The pace is good and there are some good twists in the story! I was thrilled Jace got his happily ever after. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a tough one to get through. The first half of the book was quite dark and depressing. I found myself skimming through the story. I enjoyed catching up with characters from previous stories, and although part of a series this story can be read as a standalone.
The suspense and drama in the last half of the book was the saving grace. The cover in no way depicts the gist of the storyline. All in all an okay book. I'm hoping Ryan is the subject of the next book.
I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.
An okay read:
For some reason this book didn't capture me and I didn't really form a close bond to either of the main characters until near the end. It was a little dark and hard to read at times as it involves drug dealers and entrapment and the overall tone for much of the book was quite depressing. I enjoyed the latter part of the book the best and thought there was a good amount of action and tension mingled with sweet romance.
Jace and Taryn had been in love but all that ended when she suddenly left town without an explanation. Jace had never gotten over her and when she suddenly showed up again he was conflicted about what to do. I was glad that they were able to reconnect but didn't feel immersed in their love story as there wasn't really any build up.
This book is part of a series but can definitely be read as a standalone. Whilst some things were a bit unrealistic it was still a fairly enjoyable romantic suspense.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All opinions expressed are solely my own.
Enduring Love!
A page turner of story, featuring a love that has survived separation and betrayal, and a struggle to attain the future they deserve. Taryn upped and left five years ago but Jace is still not over her. When she suddenly reappears in his life asking for money, he vows to do everything he can to help her.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Know that this isn't really a cowboy novel but it is a hot second chance romance. Taryn walked out of Jace's life years ago and he's never really gotten over her. She turns up, however, because she needs help from this former Marine, who gathers his friends to help. She's been trapped in an awful situation by a narco who has her sister. You know that Jace and company will be able to get her out of this situation but at what cost? It's a good one, with just the right amount of tension. Don't worry if you haven't read the earlier books, which are linked by the male characters- this is fine as a standalone. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A fun read.
