I am a huge fan of this authors DI Kelly Porter series, so I was looking forward to reading this standalone. On the whole, I enjoyed it, but felt there could have been a bit more action, but I did warm to the main characters Helen and Grant and I would love to see more from them.

I have read previous books by Rachel Lynch and I am a big fan of her writing. I really enjoyed reading the rift and hope the author writes further adventures for the characters.

Crime thriller that had you hooked from the off. The book was very well written. Great plot. Very exciting. Fast paced to get your heart racing. Loved this book

I thoroughly enjoyed the DI Kelly Porter series by the same author so I was eager to read this standalone.

Unfortunately, for me, I felt it wasn't as good as the DI Porter series. It didn't capture my attention as much as the other books. I would be keen however to read a further book in the future with the characters to see how the storyline develops.

Royal Military Police Major Helen Scott has been posted to Paris to oversee security arrangements for a political summit, should have been a straight forward posting, but sadly it is not.

The son of a huge oil magnate has been kidnapped and for Helen, she suddenly finds herself working with Interpol. Tracking down the kidnappers, this puts all of Helen’s allegiances to the test, and all the time, she doesn’t know who to trust, Using all her skills to work out what it is the kidnappers want and where the real threat lies, Helen is in the clock!

Another cracking read by Rachel Lynch. Exciting, thrilling and dramatic. A top read thank you for letting me read this ARC.

Major Helen Scott is a serving officer in the Royal Military Police and she knows what she needs to do to get the job done. So when she is giving a new job as a security expert at the NATO summit she knows that all the painful memories will be brought up again but she has a task to do. But before she can really get into the job she needs to help Interpol on a kidnapping case. She will need to work with Grant Tennyson to find the kidnapped son but can she really trust him as everyone seems to want different things from her?
They work well together and I enjoyed their interactions.
A read full of intense moments that keep you turning to the next page to see what is coming. I love that Helen is a strong character but she has a soft side to her that we get to see.

I must admit I had a hard time getting into this book, it took me 3 or 4 chapters then I was totally hooked. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The storyline was interesting and kept me entertained. It was a complex story with many twist that kept me interested and engaged. This deserves a big 4 stars it was great.

There was not as much action as I like in the other novels and pages of descriptive writing that took me away from the main story although I do appreciate the amount of research that must have gone in to this book. When the action happened, it was gripping and I really warmed to the main characters of Helen and Grant. I would love to see further books with theses two characters with less decriptions and more action. Nevertheless a good plot.

The Rift by Rachel Lynch is a new stand alone book from the brilliant creator of the "DI Kelly Porter" series, which introduces a new character - called Major Helen Scott. I was hooked within the first few pages.
This latest book was an excellent read, it's fast pace, exciting with so many twists and turns throughout. I loved it.

I highly recommend this latest book.

Very different from the other books Rachel Lynch has written, I really liked this. If you enjoy military books/stories then you love this! Excellent crime story with plenty of the suspense we crave.

I loved getting to know Helen and the blend of her professional and personal life throughout the book.

Rachel's writing is, as always, gripping and keeps you turning the page.

The Rift is fast-paced and tense, and the investigation that kept me guessing until the end.

I hope there will be more from these characters.

An enthralling thriller from Rachel Lynch, although I was a little reluctant to read it at first, since it is a departure from the DI Porter series I enjoyed. But what a great departure!. The crime and military aspects of the plot are cleverly woven around the central storyline of a kidnapping. Really well crafted, compelling and tense. I hope she writes more in this genre.

Complex thriller with many layers. Intriguing characters who have their own problems to deal with. A good read.

In what is a major departure from Ms Lynch’s well known DI Kelly Porter series of detective novels this novel takes us on a fascinating journey through the complex world of international terrorism and the efforts of intelligence services which seek to counter the ever present threat of spectacular attacks. For the most part this refocusing of the author’s efforts is remarkably successful, with some evidence of serious research into the world of the secret intelligence services.
The pace is certainly relentless and covers action in Paris, Lyon and Marseille (in passing, why has Ms Lynch chosen to anglicise the name of this city whilst being perfectly happy to use full fat French elsewhere?). We are again treated to a female lead character, who certainly fits the bill in terms of the requirements of this genre, although unlike Ms Lynch’s other hero, DI Porter, the lead here seems to suffer from the weaknesses that seem to accompany rediscovered romantic liaisons.
This feature, and one or two other slightly forced passages gave this reader, at least, an impression that the novel was almost written with the intention of making it an easy task to develop a screenplay for a movie. In any event, there was just a suggestion that some tighter editing would have been usefully employed.
Cutting to the chase, however, this is an excellent read and will keep the reader eagerly turning the pages until late into the night. Highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoy Rachel Lynch’s DI Kelly Porter series so I was delighted to discover she was releasing this standalone thriller, The Rift. It was great to see what Rachel Lynch can do in addition to that series and she really hits the bullseye!

Major Helen Scott works for the Royal Military Police and is asked to lead a NATO summit security team in Paris. She has barely unpacked when she is dispatched to Lyon on a mission involving international kidnapping. Helen is prepared to do whatever it takes to complete the job, even when it means having to trust someone from her painful past.

Kahlil Dalmani and Fawaz bin Nabil grew up together in Algiers and were very close. Now, both very successful businessmen, they chose very different routes to get there and are estranged. When Fawaz is desperate for help from his former friend, Kahlil refuses to assist. Kahlil Dalmani a billionaire, is an oil magnate and has inherited an empire, AlGaz. His eldest son, 20-year-old Hakim is at university in Paris. Despite employing a bodyguard for his son, Hakim has disappeared from the airport in Paris.

Rachel Lynch’s overall style awed me again in this compelling, wonderfully thrilling tale. The story really gets going once Helen goes to Lyon. The plotting is tight and I really liked the neat and efficient deliverance. The final action scene is clever and a real cracker. There are plenty of surprises, in this galloping, blisteringly-paced investigation with one development leading rapidly onto the next. For me, The Rift has it all - a plot brimming with reveals, suspense, and an intense and riveting ending as well as characters that are believable and you want to care about. Very highly recommended and well worth reading.

Helen Scott is a major in the Royal Military Police. She is sent to Paris to oversee the security arrangements for a summit to be held at the Palais Dr Versailles which will include the British Prime Minister and the President of the United States. Helen is dealing with the British Ambassador to France, Sir Conrad who is happy to let her get on with the job.
Things get more interesting when Hakim, the son of a North African billionaire, is abducted from his father's private jet in Paris when he is returning to university.
Helen is suspicious of a former friend of Hakim' s father and as she is confident that security for the summit has been ensured she is sent to Lyon on secondment to Interpol to aid the search for the kidnappers and to get Hakim back safely.
Rachel Lynch writes about strong, female characters and Helen is very much in that mould but we also learn about the softer side of her.
The book also seemed to me to ask at the end where Helen Davies next. Will she remain with the army or will she take up a post with Interpol? I look forward to finding out.

I have read all of the Detective Inspector Kelly Porter series by Rachel Lynch and thought I’d made an error when I first opened this book as it was completely different. Instead of policing in the UK this was about policing in the military namely the Royal Military Police and the role they play in keeping our country safe. The main character is Major Helen Scott RMP who is sent to Versailles to check on the security for an upcoming NATO summit to be held there. At around the same time Hakim Dalmani the son of Khalil Dalmani a very rich and powerful Algerian businessman is abducted on his arrival in Paris. Major Helen Scott is seconded to Interpol to assist in the investigation and hopefully bring it to a close before the NATO summit takes place.

Thoroughly enjoyable story from Rachel Lynch.

A bit of a move from previous books I have read by the author.
