Watch Her Sleep by L.T. Vargas and Tim McBain is my ultimate favorite book in the Detective Charlotte Winters Series. If you have not read the first two in the series First Girl Gone or Girl Under Water you must!! Make sure you add this one to your must read pile! This dynamic writing duo keeps engaging its readers with mind-bending and heart-stopping reads!

Kudos to the graphic artists who came up with the graphics for Watch Her Sleep. I loved the pictures of the falling leaves in all different colors. It was picturesque!

Straight away this story catches your attention with how creepy and stalkerish this character is. L.T. And Tim takes you into this sick character's head and they show you how twisted his mental state is. The details they put into this scene is intense and you feel like you are watching him watching her.

This book is extremely fast paced and so fascinating you just can't put it down!

If you read the other two books you will see familiar faces like Detective Charlotte Winters and hear other names you may recognize.

Putting myself into Emma’s shoes I too would be scared! She was being stalked by some mad man! The things he did and how he thought just made me cringe!

L.T. And Tim did a fantastic job writing some graphic scenes for the book.

This is one book that NetFlix needs to make into a series! I would totally binge watch it!

Charlie Winters is an excellent PI and she is not afraid to put herself in danger, time and time again. She is very protective of those that she loves but is also very lonely. Charlie like many that have suffered trauma has so many walls around her that its a real struggle for anyone to get in.

This case is beyond creepy, especially with what has been happening in the news recently. This case really brought it all home for me. I am very glad I don't live alone because the thought of someone watching me while I sleep gives me the shivers. This whole book makes you feel very tense and uneasy. I was so concerned and stressed for all of the characters (more so the female ones) mainly because the killer seemed to have no conscience and just believed everything belonged to him. This book also highlighted the lack of help that Emma got from the police. It showed all the red tape that there is and all the bureaucracy that goes on.

This book is very well written and kept me on the edge of my seat. It's addicitive, gripping and did I mention creepy? I'm very much looking forward to the next book!

Salem Island serial killer

Watch Her Sleep is the third in the PI Charlotte (Charlie) Winters series, and is set in Salem Island. The book is semi action story, semi thriller, because it's told from both Charlie's third person perspective and from the antagonistic's POV.

Although it's supposed to be read in any order, it helps to have read the books in order. Only then does the reader know who Allie (Charlie's presumably dead twin), Zoe Paige (detective and best friend), Uncle Frank (boss and father figure as he raised Charlie after her father died) and sometime romantic figure, Will Crawford, are.

The point of view of the unknown villain is something that I don't enjoy. The cat and mouse chase over the first few chapters told from the victim's and the antagonistic's POVs was sad, and drawn out. The blurb tells us what happened to her, so there is not much surprise in the outcome of the start.

There was nothing to redeem the villain. A stalker, psychopathic, sadistic, misogynistic and revolting. The authors hinted that he was introduced earlier, though "hidden in plain sight". It could have been anyone as there were no clues to the person's behaviour.

The women however were anything but wilting lilies, each showing backbone and muscle strength.

PI Charlie hears the voice of her presumed dead twin sister Allie in her head, which keeps a strain of humour running. Her sister.is a leveller at best, jibing at Charlie. As I hadn't read book 1, I wasn't aware of the details of Allie's story. I've read book 2, which along with book 3 sets up the suspense as to whether this villain was responsible for Allie's death or disappearance.

The novel gives a great deal of description, of the forest, the beach, of the weather and reminiscences of Allie. There are many chases and fights peppered throughout the book, which is why I describe the genre as more action than mystery. Charlie is right there in the thick of it, hunting down the killer.

Fast-paced and intense from beginning to end – this book captured my interest immediately and did not kept me focused till the bitter end. Great addition to the series!

What I liked:
* Charlie: complicated, conflicted, intelligent, focused, has conversations with her deceased twin, strong, lethal when necessary.
* Easy to read.
* Pacing
* That it seemed possible.
* The suspense building.
* Wondering about Will Crawford and what his role will be in the series
* That it was case-oriented with only a snippet about romance.
* References to people in previous stories and wanting to see more of them: Zoe, Paige, Frank, Will
* That the baddie was eventually dealt with.

What I didn’t like
* The baddie – someone it was easy to dislike and wish dealt with.
* Knowing that such things do happen in real life.
* A comment – not a dislike – this is a series better read in order as some characters that are major players in Charlie’s life just appear in this book without much reference to their pasts and how they are important to her.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? I believe I would.

This book is both amazing and frightening at the same time. The bodies of dead girls are turning up all over. The characters are clever and tenacious. I felt so uneasy reading this book. I was alert to every sound. My knuckles were white as I turned page after page. It was electrifying. I am still haunted. If you like wild rides than this is the book for you.

Watch Her Sleep is the third instalment in the Private Investigator Charlotte ”Charlie” Winters series, set in and around Salem Island, Michigan. The prologue opens with a woman being watched as she undresses in her bedroom as her stalker peeks over the window sill. He had stood there that many times that he had flattened the patch of grass beneath him. Tonight, he said to himself, is the night that looking will turn into touching. Tampering with a locked sliding door using a screwdriver he manages to open it with consummate ease. So many times he has let himself in this way. Violated her space this way. And somehow the thrill of it never diminishes. Usually, he came when she wasn’t home and a few times when she was asleep and he would watch her. Picked through her things. Sprawled naked in her bed while she was away. Knowing that he would touch her makes it different entirely. She’ll have no idea he's there until it's too late. All of a sudden a car swerves into the driveway and there's a knock at the door. He’s disappointed, yes, but he’s still somehow empowered to be here. Listening. Watching. She is warned not to go back to her apartment while Charlie puts up hidden cameras to try and catch the guy responsible, but she makes the deadly mistake of going home to pack some essentials, where the stalker is waiting knowing he may not have much time left, he leaps into action. Charlie soon finds Emma is missing and a search party is arranged. It isn't long before her body is discovered in a thicket and her throat had a deep gash running from ear to ear. Then when another girl also vanishes the investigation kicks into high gear. Can they stop this monster from killing again? This is a scintillating and enthralling thriller/procedural from the very first paragraph and it's straightforward and linear narrative makes it easier to immerse yourself in the chilling story. There is a plethora of twisty surprises, intrigue, drama and plenty of quick-moving action to keep you riveted throughout. It's told primarily from Charlie’s perspective, but there are also chapters dedicated to the unknown killer and his warped mindset. Charlie is such a relatable, likeable and believable protagonist who aims to right the wrongs of her sister’s case by assisting women who really need someone on their side. As in past instalments, Allie has some biting, snarky and darkly amusing things to say to her sister and that adds a light-hearted touch to proceedings. The climax was a compulsive and explosive showdown between the police and the murderer and the perfect way to conclude this must-read thrill ride. Highly recommended.

Having read the first two books of this series, I must say, I loved the element of Creepiness the authors have brought about in this book. Honestly, Don't make this your bed time read unless you want to have nightmares. *wink wink*

The ending is mind-blowing and of course, we have the yappity-yappy Allie, Charlie's dead (but still lived in Charlie's mind) twin sister. Uncle Frank, Paige and Zoe also play an important role in the story.

Highly recommended to all mystery lovers!

I love this series as all the books are always gripping and highly entertaining.
It’s an excellent crime thriller that features a quirky and strong MC, Charlotte, and I love how she chats with her missing twin and how strong she is.
There’s always plenty of humor and this one of the reason why I love it so much.
This is the most disturbing book in the series as it talks about a stalker who kills his victims and we read his POV and have a glimpse of his distorted mind.
The book starts with a bang, a creepy scenes, and the killer and one of the victims are introduced.
I was hooked since I read this scene and the tightly knitted and fast paced plot kept me hooked.
It’s an excellent story, full of twists and turns, and I was always on the edge because there is a constant suspense that makes you turn pages as fast as you can.
The character development and the descriptions are as good as usual, the mystery is solid and I was happy to catch up with the characters.
I can’t wait to read the next story, this one is highly recommended.

This is book 3 in the Charlotte Winters series. I enjoyed some parts of it and felt other parts dragged on. I wish the whole book was as fast-paced as the last couple of chapters.

I have read the previous two books and as an avid series reader, defintely recommend you read these books in order. It is important to have the background in regards to Charlotte's history. This was a solid read, and though I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two in the series, I would still recommend it.

I love this series and can't get enough! Charlie is a complex character who is developing nicely. The rest of the cast of characters are interesting and engaging. I was relieved by the way things went with Will this time. I would love to read more interactions between them, I missed it in the last book.
The case is gripping. The killer chapters are intense and twisted. I was completely off on who the bad guy was. I love that I am always surprised by this series.
The scenes with Allie give a needed dose of humor. Even though she is just a voice in Charlie's head, she is a character in her own right. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Oh I love this series!
It was great to be back with Charlie and A1 Investigations.
A young woman comes to see Charlie as she thinks she’s being followed and has had a creepy drawing of her left in her car.
Charlie tells her not to stay home alone so she agrees to stay with a friend. However, she makes the mistake of going home to collect some clothes, and someone is watching her.
Charlie helps Zoe with the case when the young woman’s body is found and Charlie feels terrible.
It seems the killer likes young women and soon he tries to abduct another woman.
It’s clear he’s also taken a shine to Charlie’s assistant, Paige so they come up with a plan to try and trap him.
This is a gripping crime thriller and the last few chapters certainly had me racing through the pages to see what would happened next.
I can’t wait to find out what’s in store next for Charlie.

What can I say that hasn't been said by fans of L.T. Vargus/Tim McBain? I was shaking in my boots! My fingers were numb from holding on too tightly to my Kindle. As much as I needed to take a break from reading, the book just wouldn't let me go. It felt like claws gripping my shoulders and whispering, "don't let go, read on"! Yikes! I was so engrossed in the story that when my cat jumped on my lap, I literally jumped!

I love Charlie because she's evolved into a bad ass! Wouldn't it be awesome to get Darger and Charlie together just once?

I've read the previous books in this series and enjoyed them. I'd strongly recommend you do likewise as, without the context of the earlier books, you may be frustrated by some of the references to them.

This is a decent continuation, it's just for me, there was something missing.

It's a solid, easy read about a stalker who then abducts his victims. The lead character is Charlie, a PI who speaks to her dead sister (Allie) - sounds weird, but, it's actually an element of the stories that gives them a light, human touch.

It maintains suspense and all is neatly summed up in the end. A 3* solid Good Read.

A Review of “Watch Her Sleep: A completely gripping crime thriller packed with suspense (Detective Charlotte Winters Book 3)” by Tim McBain and LT Vargus

He knows when you are sleeping....

Charlotte Winters thought she knew every nook and cranny of Salem Island. After all, it is where she grew up, where she runs her private investigator’s office and eighteen years ago, it is where she assisted with searching for her sister when she went missing. When a waitress for a local watering hole shows up requesting her assistance with tracking down a potential stalker, Charlie takes the case but soon finds herself part of the search party when she also goes missing. With this case hitting too close to home and bringing back painful memories of her twin Allie, Charlie, and her team work with the police to try to identify and stop the stalker before another girl turns up dead.

Watch Her Sleep is the third in the Detective Charlotte Winters series of novels by author duo Tim McBain and LT Vargus. Having not previously read the first two books in the series, this was my first introduction to this new cast of characters and I was happy to see that the books, while part of an overall series, can also be read as stand-alone offerings. From the very beginning, the story is intense and will grab your attention. I really love how McBain and Vargus get into the psyche of the villain so the reader can see the world through their eyes, With Watch Her Sleep, however, they took this one step further and also provided Charlie with her own running inner documentary in the form of her deceased twin. I thought this was a really unique element that I don’t think I have ever encountered previously and even though it was just the “voices in her head”, I really felt that Allie was a living breathing character in the story. This story, while fast-paced, wasn’t so fast that the reader got lost. The cast of characters was such that the identity of the villain was not known until such a time that I had already suspected and eliminated quite a few others. As the story built to its climax, I found myself not wanting to put the book down – even to the point of waking up in the wee hours of the night to continue reading because I could not leave the characters hanging.

If you are already an established fan of McBain and Vargus, this new series definitely lives up to the quality of storytelling, sinister villains, and mind-blowing plot twists that you have most likely become accustomed to. After having read Watch Her Sleep, I promptly backfilled my library with the first two books in the series “First Girl Gone” and “Girl Under Water” as I have no doubt they will be every bit at gripping as this newest offering. Hopefully, once book Four is released I will be completely caught up with the previous books and will be able to enjoy the series going more fully forward.

I requested this book because a friend recommended it and said you didn't need to read the first two books in the series to follow along. I disagree, and was kind of annoyed throughout the book by all the references to stuff that had happened in other books (especially with a love interest). I also really disliked reading through the villain's eyes and felt that he was written badly. He was written to be creepy, sociopathic, misogynistic, cruel and disgusting, and then (view spoiler)

The characters also didn't read as real to me, though I did like that most of the women were written as tougher than in most of these kinds of books.

The main character has constant conversations with her dead twin sister in her head, and that felt gimmicky and annoying to me. Her sister's voice is kind of bratty and I'm not sure why we need the hero to have this constant high school level dialog going on while doing things like trying to save women from murder. I think people who have read the first two books might feel some sort of emotional connection to the sister (who's been missing/dead for decades, I believe, so you didn't know her in earlier books either). It also set the whole book up as a sort of "did this person kill her sister too?" kind of thing, which felt gimmicky too.

All in all it was a good read but I'd recommend going through the series from the start.

Smut level -- very low. Cussing -- very low. Violence -- high. Sexual assault/torture -- no. Suspense -- high. Realism -- medium. Likeable characters -- medium-high.

Watch Her Sleep is incredibly eerie from page one. L.T. Vargus and Tim McBain repeatedly provide glimpses into a stalker's unstable mind. At the same time, the witty comments scattered throughout the novel provide some comic relief: "Excuse me, ma'am," a familiar voice said. "That particular breed of bird is illegal inside the city limits without proper documentation." (after being flipped off).

Watch Her Sleep is my first introduction to PI Charlie Winters and Salem Island, Michigan and it certainly was a satisfying suspenseful mystery and an intriguing intro to a world and a character who has an interesting background involving the murder of her twin sister Allie, whom she routinely converses with, which honestly I found a little off-putting to begin with.

Still, that didn't take away my enjoyment of what was a well-written, if a little over descriptive, creepy, and engaging storyline involving a killer who stalks his victims, and a police force who for the most part show little interest in helping until it's too late.

And with a couple of red herrings, and a dramatic confrontation between protagonist and killer WATCH HER SLEEP was an exciting read, and one I would happily recommend to others; and I can safely say I'll be checking out the earlier books in the series at some point in the future.

Third book in the Charlotte Winters series. Emma comes to Charlie because she thinks she is being stalked. Nothing more creepy than thinking someone is watching you while you sleep. When Emma ends up dead, Charlie, Paige, Uncle Frank and cop Zoe are committed to finding the killer. A simple plot with lots of action and creepiness along the way. And we can't forget Ally's voice in Charlie's mind as well. I'm ready for some more info on what happened to her all those years ago. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
