Hiding Baby Moses stays true to the story of Moses in the Bible. It’s from Miriam’s perspective, which will make it more relatable for children. The story is told in simple terms to make it easy to understand, and the illustrations are colorful and done well.

At the end of the book, there is more information for parents about Moses in case they don’t know the whole true story. The music for the song that Miriam and her mother sing is also at the end of the book for those who are able to read music.

Hiding Baby Moses is definitely a book I recommend. Not only will it keep a child’s interest, but it teaches a story from the Bible.

This book about baby Moses is told from the perspective of Miriam, Moses' big sister. I love the emotional language included in the story and the artwork. Judith L. Roth has done an excellent job of capturing the sadness, the fear, and the hope of young Miriam as she watches her baby brother float in the river. It is an excellent Bible story retelling. A rare gem.

This the Bible story of Moses being placed in the Nile River by his mother and sister. This story is unique because it is told from the point of view of the sister of Moses. It is a tale of faith as her mother reassures her in song that God will protect the baby. The illustrations are beautiful and bring the story to life. I definitely recommend this for parents of young children.

This book tells the story of Moses, from the perspective of his older sister. Although it is a children’s book, it beautifully portrays the anguish and heartache that Moses’s family goes through as they make and waterproof the basket and take him to the river, in attempts to keep him safe. The sister tells of the feelings that the whole family has, of having to let the baby go, not knowing if he will life or die. She witnesses, in horror, as the Daughter of the Pharaoh finds Moses, thinking she will just put him in the river to drown. Then, the elation of offering Moses’s own mother to nurse him as his wet nurse, so the family can still see him grow and prosper. Overall, a fabulous retelling of the early Moses story, and one I enjoyed sharing with my child!

Fabulous storytelling that families will enjoy reading over and over. This book tells the Bibical story of baby Moses by his sister, Miriam. Children will cherish this story, illustration and want to learn the song their mother sings, which the author has included in the back of the book.

This is a lovely and clear picture book about the beginning of Moses' story. i like the incorporation of the marketplace that they walk through, I know as a child I assumed they lived in the bare desert! And the incorporation of the song to soothe Moses.

This picture book is a retelling of the story of Baby Moses being put into the Nile River by his mother. The illustrations are great and the story is captivating. What a beautiful reminder that God has us "under his wings" and will protect us.

This is a book that I believe would appeal to children because it is told from Miriam's point of view. Yet, it is true to the Bible telling. It would help the children understand the feelings of Miriam and her mother. It also shows the bravery of a child which they would understand.
The illustrations are beautiful and the story is well written.
The facts at the end were helpful. And the song was nice, however I doubt I would use it when reading the book to children.
I would recommend this book to libraries and children's classes at church.
Thanks you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book. The opinions are entirely my own.

The right book at the right time! A beautiful telling of the story of Baby Moses. I love how Miriam, Jocheved, and Moses all had brown faces, typical of people in that part of the world. The author stayed true to Biblical telling. The book has an extra bonus...a delightful song, easy enough for me to play on my recorder.

This picture book retells a classic Bible story with faithfulness and accuracy, has beautiful, ethnically accurate illustrations, and includes an original song. I am very impressed with it, and am glad that I had the chance to read an advance copy. This would be great for families and libraries, and is a wonderful resource for churches, since the author imagines Miriam's point of view without altering the details of the story or inserting historically inaccurate elements. This is a very powerful presentation of a traditional story, and emphasizes women's wisdom and courage alongside God's protection.

In this retelling of Exodus 2, Roth writes from the perspective of Moses’ sister, describing the fear and grief that Moses’ sister and mother experience when they realize that they can no longer keep Baby Moses safely hidden in their own home, their faith that God will take care of him, and then their joy and relief when Pharaoh's daughter finds Moses and decides to adopt him. The story is accompanied by full-page, colorful, realistic illustrations. The artwork shows the clear contrast between the Hebrews’ simple, drab clothes and the splendor of Pharaoh's daughter’s life, but it also includes the bright blue of the Nile river and the vivid greens of the Egyptian reeds. Characters’ faces are expressive; Baby Moses and his mother and sister are instantly likable. I would highly recommend this book for school-age readers who are already familiar with the Bible story it tells, but for younger readers or those who aren’t familiar with Moses, I would suggest reading other Bible story books first for contextual information.

This was a cute story of Moses' origin story, fairly true to the text from the Hebrew Bible. It painted the characters in a good light, helped children how those characters would have been feeling during the story, and is heartwarming. The artwork was well done and really added a lot. My 3 and 6 year old children really enjoyed it, and even though they are already somewhat familiar with the Passover story it added something for them. My only issue was that it seemed a bit geared towards the Christian audience. Jews don't write the name of G-d out, and also it called it out as being from the Old Testament on the back cover. Thank you to Flyaway Books and Netgalley for the advanced copy of the book!

God will hide us in the shelter of a rock
God will shield with holy feathers, hide us 'neath strong wings
A refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat.

A beautiful illustrated account of Baby Moses in the eyes of his sister Miriam. The story of baby Moses reminds us the faithfulness of God. Highly recommend.

Thank you so much to FlyAway Books And Netgalley for the earc to read and review

I always love reading this story of baby Moses, it’s one of my favourite biblical stories and this retelling was probably my newest favourite version. It wasn’t told in the way it usually was, this was told through his sister Miriam.

I loved reading the story being told from her perspective, how brave she was, how worried she was for her baby brothers safety and how she fought her anxiety to ensure that her brother lived. It’s always a beautiful story and this one was told in such a great way.

The illustrations by Melanie Cataldo are exceptional, the detail of them certainly added to the beauty of this book, as I read the next page I was really enraptured by the images in the book.

This is a perfect retelling, it’s easy to follow and very enjoyable, has a beautiful song included, extra facts about Moses at the end and the images are beautiful. I throughly enjoyed this book.

I highly recommend this to anyone that’s interested in sharing the biblical stories with children, they will love the illustrations and enjoy reading the story of Moses and Miriam.

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy. As a Muslim, I was curious to review this book. I see that Roth's lyrical retelling matches quite similarly with the Islamic retelling of Moses' story--with one small change. The point of view from the sister is heartwarming. The beautifully detailed illustrations also help children see how life in Egypt was different at the time. I appreciate that the story does not preach one religion over another, and I will be recommending this book to people of all faiths.
