The premise was interesting, but the inner monologue of the characters veered too often into melodrama. Something about it just didn't work for me, and that's probably more about what I was looking for in a story right now than what these stories were offering.
Fantastic explorations of a popular character through several voices and contributions. This book is well worth the visit for fans and fans to be.
Normally I love all things Wonder Woman, but this was a disaster on all fronts. There's a ton of needless description: of rooms, or characters walking and describing what they see. Not a whole lot happens, and the story feels disjointed. Diana was boring and made the whole thing feel like a chore to read through.
A really interesting take on wonder woman though the plot was very slow at first I do recommend for wonder woman fans
Unfortunately this was really poor. Bad writing, simplistic plotting, paper thin characters. Yes I know it's meant to be as TV series but that is no excuse for poor work. It is nothing to do with the genre, "Buffy" and "Angel" to name just two classics were masterpieces. Really disappointing because it would be nice to see a good series made about a female superhero.
Received from NetGallery in exchange for an honest review.
(Note: I'm still a bit confused if this is a book meant to be read out loud or a short podcast kind of story, there were no chapters, it was short, and divided up into parts written by different authors instead of chapters.)
This story follows Diana trying to solve the latest in a string of murders where the victim's heart was ripped out in Washington D.C. This is not tied to Wonder Woman 1984 in any way, just FYI. Though Barbara Minerva appears as her friend, much like the film. The similarities end there.
The Crimson Avenger aka Jill Carlyle appears and assists Diana with solving the murders, Jill was a great addition to the story and frankly, my favorite character in this! (Sorry, Diana) Heartless incorporates actual DC elements as well as Greek Mythology that made the story even more enjoyable! The dialogue between Diana, Jill, and Barbara felt natural and was entertaining to read.
I would have rated this 5 stars if it weren't for Diana's...lack of dimensions. I don't entirely blame them since comic writers have been struggling to give Diana a personality for decades anyway, ha. Although I think this would've made for a great movie and would've vastly preferred this story and its characters over WW84. She's not entirely terrible in it, just flat.
I also felt that there could've been more descriptions of the scenery, I do have a good imagination but not /that/ good! Though, this might be tying back to my confusion over the formatting of this ARC, this might be meant to be a podcast or short story, then long descriptions wouldn't help at all, ha.
Still, a very entertaining story and I wish we got this over WW194... ;)
I love Wonder Woman, so reading this was a no-brainer. I absolutely loved it and was not disappointed surprisingly. Very well done book. Bravo.
First, I admit I never read stuff like thus; but I had just viewed the new Wonder Woman movie and grew curious if this was the novel adaptation. I don’t believe it was, although the Washington DC locale, the abundant chaos caused by the villian, and the implied transformation of strange, power-hungry Barbara Minerva all felt familiar. It appears that various female authors alternated in writing chapters. In spite of vivid descriptions, the novel, with its feeble plot and cartoon characterizations, would have presented better as a the comic book it basically was.
