Junpei Enoki is a freshman in high school and along with his two engineering club friends, trying to save it from being shut down by gathering a new member. While trying to catch attention of other students, he’s helped by Ryousuke Shirataki, a “normie” compared to the “otaku” in Enoki’s club, who ends up joining it to try to find a new interest in life, after he was forced to retire from baseball due to a shoulder injury.
Despite having some tropes I’m not a fan of (like the classic taking off ugly glasses and suddenly you’re pretty, just hiding), "This Wonderful Season With You" was a nice, quick read. It’s very light, and doesn’t really go into any depth into serious topics, keeping it to a nice first romance of high schoolers. We get to see Enoki and Shirataki getting together, and adapting to this new relationship.
It’s nothing very original, and since it’s an one-shot there’s not a lot of room for character depth or much development, but it was enjoyable, a good read for any time.
Thank you to NetGalley, LOVE x LOVE, and Atsuko Yusen for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Enoki's engineering club needs one more member or they will be disbanded. When Shirataki, a "normie," joins the club, the two worlds of the two boys is flipped in a way they didn't quite expect. This manga follows their budding romance with some fun bonus chapters at the end.
I am not a huge fan of the art style, but it grew on me. I wasn't super into this manga from the start, so it took me longer to read than my general reading time. Once I got past the first chapter, the relationship and slice-of-life aspect that were woven in started to become more interesting, and I was certainly invested in the end. This is a single volume, which makes the conclusion feel quite wholesome.
I would recommend this for fans of BL manga that do not have super pretty boys, yet still has a very cute story.
This was a cute story and enjoyable to read, the characters are pretty fun.
However, it felt like there was something missing, as though you were dropped into the middle of a story.
It's also a little forgettable, a reread would be needed if a continuation were released.
SO PRECIOUS AND WHOLESOME!! Enoki and Shirataki are so freaking cute together, I've loved reading this because it's a light read of two boys falling for each other even being the opposites of each other, they have such great chemistry and understanding.
Cute, cute, cute. This summarises it very well. This is typically the kind of story that makes me happy. The only improvement I can see is that the subjects of divorce, family and injury could have been more developed. Oh yeah and it felt like the last chapter was more like a side/joke chapter than a follow-up of the story. Otherwise, it’s a very classic romance between “a nerd and a jock” where the jock prevents the nerd from being bullied and the nerd helps the jock get in touch with his feeling. But since it is very funny and the characters are really cute and loveable, it works very well and you don’t get this feeling of “deja-vu”. And I loved the drawings; Shirataki is absolutely gorgeous and Enoki is the cutest.
This is a very easy and light-hearted read so, if that’s what you’re looking for, I recommend it.
4/5
This manga features the classic dynamic of the jock and the nerd. Despite being a trope that’s been done to death, I thoroughly enjoyed it in this manga. This follows Enoki, a self-proclaimed otaku in the electronic engineering club. Ryousuke, one of the coolest jocks at the school, ends up joining the club and the two of them strike an unlikely friendship despite being opposites. It eventually blossoms into more, although it does it take them some time to get there.
This started off very strong and hooked me in right away with its pretty art style and surprisingly its humour. A manga gets lots of points from me if it can make me laugh, and this one had me giggling so hard while reading! I did start to lose some interest near the end because it was taking them a long time to admit their feelings for each other, but the epilogue chapters filled in those gaps for me. There were some questionable moments of consent in the final chapter when they had sex, but it was ambiguous enough for me that it didn't bother me too much. Overall, this was a fluffy, low-angst manga, perfect for when you want a quick and easy read.
I am just now getting into Manga. I liked the two main characters of this and the story was easy to follow.
Review to come March 20 on blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley/publisher in exchange of an honest review.
I was really hyped to get to read this book, I mean Dekoboko Sugar Days was one of my FAVOURITE books last year and this is a new one by the same mangaka!
Sadly... it just didn't have the same impact for quite a bit of the book. It got better as the story went on but... yeah, there were just things that didn't work for me. The stereotypes of the computer club people, the way they called everyone normie which just seemed weird and out of place and hurtful and not to mention how they avoided everyone or had their judgement ready, the computer club I would have liked them see do something... because now we barely got anything, I wasn't a fan of you are sexier without glasses stuff, come on no. There were also a few other things, but these are the biggest ones.
The relationship takes A LONG time to form, which on the one hand had me happy, but on the other hand it took just WAY TOO LONG. At times I just was frustrated. I just wanted these two to get together and do kissing. Haha. :P But it was cute to see them both figure out their feelings (maybe with some help), get closer with each new thing they do (like exercising together). I love that they were so different from each other. Enoki is small, little, and as Shirataki claims weak but with guts. Whereas Shirataki is muscular and sporty and very big. I loved the differences between them and I loved that it worked with them! They really make a cute couple and I was rooting for them to get together for real. To get romantic. I also love love that Shirataki, the more silent one and our big guy, took the first steps! Yas! So many manga it is the different way around so this made me happy.
I love that we also learn a bit more about Shirataki's complicated home situation. I would have also liked some information on Enoki's family though!
Then when things really started happening I was just squeeing in delight. YAS! Go boys! And I love that, just like Dekoboko Sugar Days we get to see the first date and the first time they had sex (which was both sexy and hilarious).
The art was just as fabulous as her art in Dekoboko Sugar Days.
All in all, while not always the best, I still loved reading this one. This is a couple that will have everyone rooting for them. It got pretty adorable and cute!
This Wonderful Season With You is a steady, heartwarming and gentle boys' love manga! Enoki is your typical nerd boy with glasses and he loves making video games. He belongs to a nerd club too. He happens to bump into the coolest guy, Shirataki, who used to play baseball and is tall and well-liked. Shirataki ends up in their club and thus these boys get to know each other, become friends and then some more by helping and understanding one another. The story is realistic, small and cute. The rhythm is wonderful and Atsuko surely keeps this perfectly simple. The best part is that the manga doesn't go into sex immediately, but the boys learn how to make the relationship work and the sex is eventually awkward. This would've worked without the sex too, since the emotions are the key and much more interesting than them getting in bed.
The art looks nice and funny at times, but different too, which makes this stand out. The facial expressions are great and the guys actually talk about things together. Perhaps Atsuko could've even used more time to develop the manga and more books, since the story line is juicy. Also, I kind of felt bad for the club president. A cute read indeed.
The first 90% of this BL manga was a super cute story of a nerd becoming friends with a former jock, and then eventually sparking a romance between them. We got a lot of character depth and background with Shirataki, but not a lot with Enoki and the other characters. I understand it would be hard to put that into one novel, so it may have been good to make it into two. Other than that, the story was a fun read and the art is pleasant.
As for the last 10% of the book, the spiciness was not for me. I stand for absolute consent in all matters regarding intimate relations and there were a few moments where that was not the case. Also, Enoki feeling the need to change his body before getting intimate with Shirataki and the story not addressing that also upset me. These two things made me uncomfortable, so I probably should have skipped that part of the book. This and the lack of character development with Enoki and the other characters is what made the manga a 3 star for me.

I just love the classic nerd meets the jock in BL mangas. There is always something about this kind of trope that completely compelled me to reading it. Not only this romantic story was sweet, it also included a little bit of drama and background that was well-written. The characters development was good, and the relationship they had felt realistic and natural. I especially like the ending. Plus, there was an extra chapter that was spicy!
This Wonderful Season With You is a fun, BL manga that BL readers will enjoy.
4/5 stars!
This Wonderful Season With You is super sweet and heartwarming. The romance is pretty slow burn and the ending is very satisfying. The characters were well rounded and fun and none of the conflicts felt contrived. It wasn't anything groundbreaking but it was adorable and an easy light read.
Highly recommend if you want a sweet friends to lovers romance with minimal angst (some family drama) and warm characters.
i enjoyed the characters, the build up of the relationship, the friendship and the progression to more. i liked that we got to see both perspectives and the internal struggle they went through.
This Wonderful Season With You was a cute and delightful BL manga. I like the nerd x cool kid trope anyway, and it worked nicely here. Both characters came across well, and the development of their relationship felt naturally and well paced. The illustration was good too. This is mostly a sweet tale, but there is a raunchier bonus chapter at the end for those who like their BL a little hotter. Recommended for fans of BL tales at the sweeter end of the spectrum and with deeper character and story development.
I received an Arc from NetGalley and Tokyopop in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun and charming manga following Enoki, who sees himself as an otaku. His main interests being his electronics engineering club. And Shirataki who was once a famous baseball player until he hurt his shoulder.
A classic geek and jock story.
Although the meet-cute was lovely, and I really enjoyed the characters growth, I had problems with the sex scene at the end. Enoki tells Shirataki to wait several times as this will be his first time having sex, Shirataki pressures him into it by implying and saying that Enoki telling him to wait makes Shirataki feel unwanted.
Also another issue is Enoki feeling the need to change his body to ‘deserve’ Shirataki.
Unfortunately these two things ruined what would’ve otherwise been an adorable story. For this reason I’m giving This Wonderful Season With You a 2.5 stars.
This was a familiar sweet story of the geek and the "loner boy" who everyone loves but loves no one. It was cute, not exactly groundbreaking really, but cute. Not exactly yaoi more shonen-ai though there is one mature scene at the end it's still very tame.
The story is about Enoki who is a nerd in the most disliked club in school. The club is gonna end if they don't get four members and he runs into the "loner boy" Shirataki who helps him one day then suddenly decides to join the club. There's the typical goofiness and geekiness but all in all I've read better. It was cute, just the whole time it felt like it was missing something I dunno.
I'd recommend if you're looking for something sweet but I just wanted a little more between the mains for me to care about them.
