I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.
Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.
However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x
I love romance mixed with rockstars and this was great. I really enjoyed following them on their journey.
Christina Hovland is a brand new author for me, but I always love a good rockstar book!
Played by the Rockstar was a unique, fun, cute rockstar romance. It was a fairly quick read, and had me pretty captivated from the first page to the last.
Linx and Becca gave me all of the feels and all of the laughs and all of that good stuff along their journey. I can't wait to read about the other members of this group and more from this author.
The "Rockstar Romance" is one of my favorite sub genres, but this book just didn't really do it for me. This was my 50th book to read for the year - but it took me nearly 2 weeks to make my way through it when nearly everything else I read I devoured in a couple of days. The book was very slow in ramping up for me and once things did seem to start happening, the book was done. I also have trouble when the characters don't have common names, I'm not entirely sure why but it makes it harder for me to picture them. While our leading lady, Becca, had a name that was common, no one else really did. Our rock star is named Linx, and the rest of his band all have names ending in X as well.
I think if the first 25% of this book weren't as slow for me, I would have enjoyed it more - as I finished the second half of the book much quicker than the first - but for me this one kind of fell flat.
I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.
I really enjoyed this book! Christina Hovland is a great author and I enjoyed this story. I will definitely be reading more from her!
Overall, this is a predictable romance, just with a rock star as the love interest. I can see how it could potentially be part of a series, but it was nothing special.
Cute book from Hovland. Becca is a therapist taking a break, Linc is a rock star. This is a quick read, very fluffy, good for a laugh.
Looks like I found myself a new author and a new rock star romance series ! I haven't read anything from Christina before but certainly will be again. Played by the rock star pulled me in immediately and didn't let go until the end, which came far too soon.
Years ago Becca met Linx when she was a member of the Dimefront Groupies the Ten. She put all that behind her working as a counsellor until she needed a complete break and a change of scenery and ends up working as a waitress in a dive bar in Denver. Suddenly her past catches up with her when in swaggers Linx the charismatic bassist for Dimefront. Dimefront is taking a break and Linx is looking for a distraction and finds it in Becca in what is supposed to be a short fling.
Think this is going to be a serious angsty love story? Nope, it is just hilarious. Linx is definitely not your typical rock star, I mean who dresses his cat in a leather jacket? and Gibson the cat is quite a character on his own. Just one example of many funny situations Becca and Linx deal with as despite swearing that it is just a fling they are falling head over heels for each other. Becca and Linx are so perfect for each other. Becca ignores his rock star persona and treats Linx as a regular guy and Linx is happy to drop the swagger for her and be her regular guy.
Yes, I was so sad when I finished this book it was the most fun I have had in ages, and now that I know that there are more books in the series I will definitely be back for more.
Fantastic Read!!
This is a little departure for me with my usual rock romances. Don’t get me wrong it still had the ever so sexy rock star and the woman he had his eyes set on along with some band drama. I have to say this was hilarious but not to the point of taking away from the rock star persona. If you like some absolutely hilarious moments this is definitely a book for you. Wait until you read about Babushka and the retirement group…it was laugh out loud moments that made me feel good. That makes it a definite five star for me!!
Trying to avoid a hot man is difficult, a hot musician.....impossible.
Becca had no chance against Linx even with it being temporary.
Can't help but love Babushka and her crew that gives this story a funnier injection of crazy and unpredictable without taking away from the main story. Didn't completely see Becca as a therapist but my one big issue was the use of british words or slang when these characters were from the U.S..
I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley for my honest review.
Another awesome book by Christin Hovland! I loved the Mile High Matched series, and this is a new spin off of that series.
Cedric "Linx" Lincoln seem to be at a crossroads in his life. He is a nice guy, a rockstar and a pushover. Then there is Becca. She is taking a break fro her real life and wants to do nothing but float for a while. She takes a job as a waitress at a dive bar. Just wanting to take a break. Being a therapist has taken a toll on her. She too, is at a crossroads in life.
Their parallel lives make them connect on a level, but their instant attraction towards each other is what really intrigued me.
Loved this book! Can't wait for more in this series!
I usually don’t care for books that are written in the third person. But the author wrote in such a way that it being in third person never crossed my mind. This is a funny slow burn rom com. I loved Linx and Becca. They both are taking a break from their lives, Linx a forced one and Becca by choice. When they meet. Definitely an enjoyable read on their journey. Can’t wait to see the next book in the series!
The band Dimefront is on a hiatus. Linx is vacationing in Denver while his band mates decide what they want. Becca is having a work crisis and has run home to Denver to figure things out. When they both are at a mutual friends bar, sparks fly. But can this be something more than a fling?
Opinion
This is not your typical rock star romance. Linx has a more sensitive character than the pushy alpha males. Becca wants a change and is afraid of Kinx breaking her heart.
I enjoyed this story in it’s entirety. It ended up being a super sweet romance where he waited on her. What more can a woman want than that? I’m super excited that this is the first in a series and there will be more.
Many thanks to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this book.
This was my first book by Christina and I doubt it will be my last.
Played By The Rockstar is a stand alone in a new series. I enjoyed following Linx and Beccas story. There were some definitely some laugh out loud moments and I had trouble containing my laughter at the scene in the retirement home. Linx was crazy his devotion to his cat made me smile and laugh. I was glad how it all worked out in the end and loved the band and family drama element to the story. I'm very interested to see whats going to happen in Bax and Courtney's story.
This is a new author for me, but now I feel like I need to go back and look for her other books! I'm a sucker for a decently written rock romance, and this one in no way disappoints! I loved the characters right from the start, not only are they engaging and kept my interest but just some of the things that they say and do made me laugh and kept me wanting to read more. Cedric "Linx" may be the rock star but he has a heart of gold and I loved him!! Becca is this down to earth woman who seems to take things as they come. And just kinda rolls with everything. The secondary characters give me hope for more books, especially since they were likable as well. For a new to me author, she hit everything that I hope for in a new book! Can't wait to read more!
This is only my second book by Christina Hovland but I am fast becoming a huge fan.
I absolutely loved everything about this book. Both Linx and Becca felt authentic from the first chapter, and the chemistry was 🔥🔥🔥. I don't know why, but I wasn't expecting this to be quite as funny as it turned out to be, which was a genuinely lovely surprise. The scenes with the pensioners in particular had me in stitches. And that party? Oh. My. God! I was crying laughing. There was also some excellent banter between Linx and his family.
I was also pleasantly surprised that it didn't slip into the usual angsty rock star trope. Linx has so much more depth. A genuine treat to read.
Looking forward to the bonus scenes available on release day, and the next book in this series.
Favourite Quotes:
* “I have a question.” He raised his right hand like he was back in high school in Mr. Carpenter’s chemistry class. “Where exactly would I find my cootie cat?” Etta scowled, looked at his crotch, then back to his face. “Your love dart.” He choked a little on his own spit. “Right.” He nodded, recovering quickly. “Don’t use my love dart when I grind.”
* He pressed a kiss to her forehead before he said, “You’re my world now. I don’t need cities.”

I will upload my review to Amazon UK and other book vendors on publication day. Many thanks for allowing me to read this title.
A great read
Becca is on holiday from her real life, after her job as a therapist got too stressful. She has a temporary job in a bar in her home town, where Linx becomes a regular. She knows him from following his band, but gets to know him as a person once they start spending more time together. What will happen when it is time for them both to return to their real jobs?
I like how this is told from both points of view and includes characters from Christina's other books, especially the appearance of Babushka.
Can't wait for the rest of this series!
This is my first book by author Christina Hovland. I was gifted an advance copy by NetGalley for an honest review. I read the first chapter and wasn't sure if this book was going to be one I enjoyed or not, I wasn't sure by the second chapter either. But after that, this book kept growing and growing on me. I especially liked Cedric! I'm a fan of rockstar romances and he is now one of my favorite Heroes in this troupe! Cedric grew on me faster than Becca, but boy, she was great too. This book is different than most rockstar romances. There were no third parties thrown in to muddy the waters, not even groupies! SO good. I cannot wait for the next book in this series. I already like Courtney, so I know I'll like it!
This book started off well enough, good looking sexy rockstar on hiatus. Beautiful therapist on vacation from her life and the two meet. The problem is I didn’t feel any chemistry with these two. I felt more chemistry between Courtney and Bax, and they were barely speaking to each other. There just seemed to be pages and pages of conversation that did nothing to move this story forward. There was no conflict and the best part of this book was the last two chapters. I did like the ending, love a happy ending and this one didn’t disappoint.
3 1/2 Stars for this rockstar romance
Becca decides to take an extended "vacation" from her job as a therapist. She still has to make money, so she takes a waitressing job at a bar. She just never thought her teenage rockstar crush would come walking through the door. Linx is sick and tired of his bandmates taking breaks from performing, leaving him with nothing to do. So, he goes to Denver to visit their former manager who now owns a bar. When he spies the cute little brunette waiting tables, he knows just how he wants to spend the next night ... or two. Becca can't believe her good fortune that Linx wants her and she decides to give in to her fantasy ... what harm can a night or two with Linx do? All she has to do is keep her heart out of the equation.
Although I liked Becca and Linx well enough ... I just didn't love them. I also had a problem with some parts of the storyline. I didn't get why Becca had to move in over her parents' garage ... she must have been living somewhere and have some money to float herself for a while. And Linx goes to Denver and just buys a mansion and yet it sounds like he's been there awhile. The way Linx was obsessed with a cat he just got was weird. But there were parts that had me laughing out loud and I am intrigued with how Bax and Coutney's story will go.
