An absolute delight! The perfect book for kids interested in the woods, little creatures, cottage-y living. My three and five year old adored this book, and we will be purchasing a copy once it comes out! A wonderful, sweet collection of four stories.

I highly enjoyed this little picture book about a witch named Hazel during each of the different seasons. It first starts out in spring and goes all the way through winter. We follow her day to day activities, new adventures, and what life is like in the forest. I also love the illustrations. They are so cute.
A beautifully illustrated book but just not sure of the stories. They feel a little disjointed and they don't flow as you read them. I'm really nor sure.
Little Witch Hazel is an utterly charming picture book perfect for nature lovers. Although the art style is very different, fans of the pastoral worlds of Beatrix Potter and Brambly Hedge will fall in love with Hazel. The four stories in this book are simple, offering glimpses into Hazel’s life in the forest during each season, but the world Wahl creates through her art is beautifully rich. I read it once and within a few hours I needed to read it again so I could pour over the beautiful illustrations. I particularly appreciated the positive representation of different body types and the details of Hazel’s belly and hairy legs. It is really meaningful to see this type of representation in children's literature.
I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
Little Witch Hazel is a delightfully sweet children's book of four stories about a little witch called Hazel. Hazel is tiny and lives in the forest with her friends and neighbours all around her. Hazel makes trips to visit her patients and friends and always cares for and tends to others. The last story relates to the first story about an owl called Otis and is such a lovely heartwarming story to end the book on.
The illustrations are really beautiful and interesting with lots of detail and things to discover.
This is a fantastic book to share again and again with children.
What a delightful book! Little Witch Hazel reminds me of story books I read as a child. Hazel is such a charming character. She’s kind, caring, and courageous to those around her. The story follows her through the four seasons where she is joined by her friends and neighbors through adventures in the woods she calls home. The illustrations are gorgeous and they compliment the writing perfectly. This will easily become a well loved story that is passed down through generations.

I thought the stories were great and so were the pictures. I will be recommending this book to our children's department.
My four-year-old son and I loved this story! I could for sure see this being a staple in our house. The imagery is beautifully done with bright, bold colors. The story kept his attention the entire time. I would love to see this as a set available to purchase, it would be a set of books that I always gifted to friends with young children.
We (my almost 4-year old daughter) and I loved joining Little Witch Hazel in her four adventures. I could see this a cute boxed set of four books, perfect for gift giving.
The illustrations are full, busy and uses bold colors. The fairy/woodland life enchanting.
I loved this book. The pictures were so cute and colorful and the sections were the perfect length. I can’t wait to buy a physics copy to read with my girls.
Little Witch Hazel stands out first and foremost as an incredible book of fine art. Phoebe Wahl is an exceptional illustrator and I want all of the pages from this book framed and display on my walls. I can't imagine anyone else better suited to write a book about witches and forests. That being said, the actual stories are understated to say the least. I'm not sure they contain enough energy to keep a child engaged. Furthermore, the text is very fine and small - not ideal for new readers who do well with bold type. The world-building and illustrations might be sufficient for a child to truly enjoy this book. I look forward to reading more reviews by parents who can provide first-hand accounts of how Little Witch Hazel is received by its intended audience.
This is probably my favorite picture book I've read so far. I originally became interested because the art looked beautiful, and it was! The art was so wonderful I could EAT it. With my eyes. Not only is this a sweet book about a little witch in the woods, it also manages to be diverse and challenge gender-roles in small discreet ways, for example by including: fuzzy legs, a breastfeeding mother, a single father, a person with a beard, wearing a dress... Basically, I loved it a lot.
A pleasant walk through the four seasons, this book is four vignettes of stories of Little Witch Hazel and her life in the forest. Woven with themes of friendship, seasonality, and community, this book has beautiful illustrations that are somehow at the same time simple and detailed.

This got to be one of the cutest children's book I've ever had the pleasure of reading. SO CUTE!!!
I wanted to hug everyone all the time.
I loved this book, and I would have read it over and over again as a kid. Particularly love the connected short stories format, the little details of the woods, the great drawing and characterization of Hazel, and the vibe of the interactions between forest creatures which is mischievous but warm.
Somewhere between a picture book and an early chapter book, Little Witch Hazel is a series of four brief seasonal vignettes in the life a helpful gnome/witch. The illustrations are beautiful, in a traditional style, and awe well worth extended study as many have surprising but sweet details. Because of the intricacy of the illustrations, this might not be a good read aloud book but it would be very suitable for a parent and child to read together.
Just what I was looking for- a lighthearted book with beautiful illustrations. The four short stories tie together and tell the passing of seasons in a way that draws even the youngest of readers in. This is the perfect anthology for nature lovers. I will be adding it into our homeschool curriculum to tie in with seasonal changes and nature studies as a fictional supplement.
Little Witch Hazel is a delightful read that celebrates her connections with nature and forest friends. Each of the four breif chapters focuses on a season, Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. The illustrations are just darling and connected well with the season. They are reminiscent of quality vintage storybook illustrations. Witch Hazel was a sweet character, adventurous, kind, and curious. I was unsure why the character was called Witch Hazel, as there was nothing in the story about herbal magic or her doing magic. The chapters are brief enough for a beginning chapter book reader, but the rich language makes this one you'd likely read together.

A charming collection of gnome lore, told through storybook text and rich, thoughtful illustrations.
A big thank-you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for giving me a copy of this book for an unbiased review.
4/5 - Really liked it.
This is a sweet set of four stories about the Little Witch Hazel, who lives deep in the woods. The illustrations are beautiful - reading this book made me feel cozy and warm. I especially loved Otis, Hazel's loyal owl friend. I also appreciated little spurts of humor - for example, when Hazel tells Otis not to eat their neighbor. There is a wholesomeness throughout this book and it's lovely.
The reason my rating isn't higher is because Little Witch Hazel doesn't really seem like a witch. There's no mention of her magic, which I was expecting to be a central part of the story. I wanted more enchantment, which I really think the story could have delivered - the writing and illustrations were brilliant! Plus, the community is so lovely - I wish I could have known more about them. This setting could lend itself to a longer book about Hazel's adventures in the forest.
Overall, I enjoyed this book very much. It would make a great gift for families with young children.
