The Matilda Rep-tilly's dream comes true: she became a part of the heroes' organization - The Coalition of Heroes. She even gets paired with the great Shadowdown to learn how to be a superhero. Seems pretty good, but she discovers that Shadowdown will kill the British ambassador and run to tell this information to Pillar, manager of the heroes. Tilly's surprise was that Pillar knew that and she give Tilly a chance to choose to stay with them or leave. The same night the new hero discovers the Coalition declared her a dangerous terrorist and now she must hide and work with 'the bad guus' of The Shadow Order.
The story is pretty cool but it has a lot of similarities with The Boys, that why I didn't enjoy the story as much as I would like. I love The Boys and for me, it's a perfect series. Villainous has a great idea but I didn't like so much how it developed. The pacing was too quick for me and the characters not so good. But, I loved the drawing and the story has a very funny and hilarious moments. It's an interesting story and I will give it a try. I want to know more about The Shadow Order, the characters are pretty good.
Thank you, NetGalley to the great opportunity to read this story.

I cannot read this book properly because the edition has a lot of mistakes. First of all, the first 20 pages were white and without any images. If I can't read it properly, I can't write a review.
I really liked the art of this story and for that reason, I wanted to read it, but I couldn't read it at all. The first chapter was blank. In the future, I will read this comic.

Two societies, one of superheroes and the other of villains, fight for control of a city. superheroes try to fight against villains and villains seek control of the city and the world.

The factors that this graphic novel touches are superheroes and villains, and the conflict between Russia and other countries.

I liked this story, I am not able to abandon a saga so I will continue, and more for a book that I did not hate, but I did not hate it either.

I have many points to rescue, I just loved the extension. The story as such is entertaining, but there were moments that did not fit for me, it is for this reason that I did not love it, that is why I did not put 5 stars.

2-2.5 Stars

I really enjoyed the concept of the comic, where the heroes are actually the villains and vice versa. Unfortunately, apart from that, there wasn’t really anything about this story that stood out. We never really get to know any of the characters beyond a caricature of what their powers are and which side of the line they stood on. That being the case, it was forgettable and didn’t really offer a whole lot as far as a story.

Tilly, the lizard-lady on the cover, is a fresh recruit for the Coalition of Heroes. She's brought in as a sidekick, but quickly discover that things are not quite what they seem; in a (not so) shocking twist, Tilly discovers her idols are dirty. Then things get a little more complicated.

Thematically, Villainous is similar to The Boys with super-powered individuals that the public perceive as heroes but end up acting more like villains (or at least in their own self-interest). In fact, the superman analogue is reminiscent of Homelander. However, there are enough differences that make this feel less like a re-hash. Tilly is super-powered in her own right and she finds some allies in her clash against the Coalition. </p>

There's nothing ground-breaking about Villainous, but it is a fun enough read. The art is a bit inconsistent. The characters all have interesting designs, but they often seem to simply be cut and pasted over panel backgrounds. A lot of the time, there was little interaction between them and their environment. There are, however, some more dynamic action sequences (although they stretch a bit too far into 'cartoony' for my preference).

With the swap of villains being the good guys and the technical heroes being the bad guys gives a good twist to the story.

However, I believe the graphics and the writing style could have had more character

A graphic novel in the same vain of Watchmen, but while Watchmen has full fleshed out characters and deep story lines and actual character development, this only took the concept of "bad superheroes" and sadly did nothing with it.

It seems like it is the first volume, so they could've paced this volume a lot better, but there was no development, no convincing motives. I think the art was cool, and some of the characters' designs were good, but sadly, I thought it had a chance to do something with the whole "superheroes are bad but villains are good" idea, but they didn't.

I thank Netgalley and Mad Cave Studios for the digital ARC.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed this more than I was expecting but still wasn’t entirely my thing. I liked the concept of the good guys are actually the bad guys and I was genuinely interested in the characters and their stories. I have found that super hero stories aren’t really my thing when it comes to books, but I would still recommend this one to anyone who is interested in those kinds of stories! I also really enjoyed the art, it made the story really come to life!

This comic bind-up has the first 5 volumes of Villainous, a story about superheroes and one girl's desire to be a hero. It reads like a more toned-down version of The Boys, and brings up twists and turns to keep you guessing while reading.

Villainous follows Tilly, a reptile-like human who joins the heroes, but she quickly learns things are not all as they seem. The people she once looked up to are awful, no better than assassins for hire. They even force Tilly to make a choice between being a hero and going against what she stands for, or don't. But going against the heroes has consequences, one that Tilly will learn soon enough.

This comic was fun, albeit a little bland. If you like The Boys, but aren't a fan of the gore or language, or want to get someone younger into comics this is probably a perfect story. The art style has beautiful colors and is very straight forward so it won't be distracting and you don't have to search for hidden secrets, and the characters are interesting. The star of the first 5 volumes of these comics is definitely the character designs. Each character has such interesting designs, and I honestly want to know why specifically the guy with the mouth cover.

But while the character designs thrived, I think there are some aspects that could have been better. The first being, the pacing. I know comics go fast, I grew up on them, but this felt too fast. Too much stuff happened in one day for it to be believable, or even entertaining. It felt like the timeline was so short to bring about big reactions, but all I could think is there's no way. I also found it weird that the other apprentices/interns were only present for two strips, and there are so many of them. It felt like we needed a few more sections or at least more fight scenes to even understand how there are so many interns when we've really only seen 4 heroes.

I also think the biggest downfall to this comic series, is that it is not just LIKE The Boys, but it is almost the same. The main characters gets disgusted by the "good guys" after finding out they're not so good, the big hero is the worst with an ego, the main character gets sucked into helping "the villains" and tries to take down "the good guys" the big hero hotshot disappears after a confrontation. Yeah, it was all too similar that wasn't as enjoyable.

I am interested, however, in continuing on with the next couple of entries to see if it evolves from a younger The Boys or not. As I said above, I think if you are really passionate about The Boys, or have someone younger that you think would like the show but are too young to watch it, this is the perfect starting point.

So happy I got to check this book out. Lots of political undertones without being annoying. I loved the spin that what is perceived as good is actual evil and vice versa.

I received an e-ARC from the author/publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Villainous is the first in a new graphic novel series for teens that asks the question: What if the heroes weren't really the good guys?
Firstly, this is a fantastic premise. And the artwork and colouring are great.
However, I felt that the execution of the story was kind of patchy. The general idea was conveyed, yes. But the narrative was quite condensed and therefore jumped between 'important' scenes, which made it hard to follow. The execution of the fight scenes was also extremely confusing. I literally had no idea who was doing what.

I think the series has a lot of potential, and I hope that it focuses a bit more on developing the characters. As it stands, it's a decent start, with a decent set up.

I gave this 2 out of 5 stars. The plot wasn't the best, but it was an okay read and it read fast. I liked some of the characters and although the art was messy and hard to understand sometimes (especially during fight scenes), I liked that it was a fast read.

This was really good. I really loved The Boys vibes. The art style was also pretty cool. Can’t wait to see more!

This was a very good comic. It definitely gave me some flashbacks to classic super hero comics from the 70s and 80s. The art work is very classic but the story is very current. I enjoyed this story a lot and can't wait for more.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the early review copy.

"Tilly, one of the newest super-powered people to join the Coalition of Heroes, is doing her best to navigate the dizzying world of superheroes. Working with her idols should be a dream come true, but when she learns the truth, Tilly's dream quickly becomes a nightmare. Now, Tilly has to make a choice - Get in line and stand with her heroes, or take a stand and risk becoming something more... Villainous"

Yeah, this was an alright start to a series. It didn't fully grab me as it felt like a very standard run-of-the-mill story about a bunch of superheroes.
I've seen a few reviews comparing it to 'The Boys' but aiming it at a younger audience which I can definitely agree with.

The style of the comic is also very generic of the traditional comic conventions which is great if that's your thing?
Overall, it's not a bad comic to start a series, but unfortunately, it didn't grab me enough to be wanting more

Nice comic book story. Feel like we didn’t get enough of the backstory of how good and bad guys knew each other. Nice setup for continuation of storyline.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

4 stars.

This is a great graphic novel of the hero's really being the bad guys. Gives me real "the Boys" vibes. Since the book is aimed at teens, there's definitely less graphic violence than in the TV show, which I appreciated. I thought the plot was overall enjoyable, if a tad bit predictable. The rep in the book was good, but it could have been better. In a world full of superheros, I should be able to see all skin tones and genders represented.

I think part of the issue with this it that there's a lot going on in one novel. I feel like it could have been split into two issues to better flesh out the story. I didn't feel enough growth on Tilly's side, nor did I feel any real camaraderie between the "villains". They might have all been working together, but I felt like more could have been done to establish their friendship. Also this might be a small plot issue but in the final scene Tilly says that Pillar killed Two Spirit, but he's clearly seen later on in the issue alive and well.

The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is such fun superhero story!

I heard that the premise was similar to The Boys, and I agree. But it’s not nearly as gritty and dark, so a younger audience could easily enjoy it.

The main character, Tilly, joins the Coalition of Heroes as a sidekick. Working alongside her idols should be an amazing experience, but soon she realizes that everything isn’t what it seems. When the heroes don’t have the purest intentions, maybe joining the villains is the right move.

I really liked Tilly, she’s a great protagonist. There’s not a lot of character development, but the story is so short that I’m okay with that. Besides, the art is just stunning. The fight scenes are not confusing at all, which I very much appreciate, and I love how the characters are drawn.

The only critique I have is about the plot. I understand that it’s a fast paced book, but it feels a slightly rushed. It needed a little more time to develop the plot. Everything happens way too conveniently for the characters and it didn’t make sense in some parts.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed a lot the reading experience and I would highly recommend Villainous to younger readers who are getting into comics. It’s short, fun and has that little something that makes it a memorable story.

What can I say this was awesome from the first to the last page I loved every part of it, the plot flows really well kept my interest and the drawings are amazing.
Each of the characters are well written and beautifully drawn.
I really can't say enough good things about it.
Definitely a great read and I will look forward to reading more of these.
