There is something so empowering about a female assassin. And not just an assassin, truly one of the best. I think that title is so much more often associated with men - and when it is a woman, she is usually reduced to using her body to lure a man in to his death or poison lipstick or something. Olivia is a professional - a la John Wick or any version of an untouchable, ghost of an assassin. Olivia is not in that profession through her own true free will. She was groomed for it her entire life and then all but forced into the role by a very very nasty man. Since he died, she hasn't been acting as an assassin, but she also isn't free to live a different life. A life with people who care about her and she cares about in return.
This book picks up where the last book in the series left off (but can be read alone - you'd be missing out - but you could totally do it and not be lost). Olivia is shadowing a witness in a sex trafficking case to keep her safe during the trial. Leo Grant, an FBI agent who was assigned to the case, is also in town for trial. He and Olivia are both looking in on the bad guy's cousin - when Olivia is shot in a drive-by-shooting. She hits her head hard on the pavement. When she wakes up - she has no idea who she is and has no memories of her past.
While she is recovering, she and Leo get closer and closer. Even with Leo knowing that when she regains her memories, Olivia will likely immediately leave. I love that there is very little drama between Leo and Olivia, other than Olivia trying to pull away so that Leo is safe from the orbit of her life. All of the drama here comes from the outside. Leo is clearly all in with Olivia almost from the moment they meet. Olivia has to learn to take a chance on caring for someone and trust.
This is a very well paced and exciting read - even during Olivia's recovery period you can feel the outside world pressing in and you are constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. I am loving this world and the characters in it. I cannot wait to read more about Jax and some of the other folks on the team.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

Another page-turning novel by Miss Bybee. Continuing with the Richter school this book had all the elements of a romantic thriller with a heroine that's gutsy and definitely not your perfect angel. I look forward to reading more from this author. I received an e-book from NetGalley in return for an unbiased review.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC copy - you can never go wrong with a Catherine Bybee story. A Thin Disguise was definitely a good one. Olivia’s story and the connection to Neal’s team was great to revisit past characters. The excitement of the underground world of assassins and unlikely love story of Olivia and Leo will have you flying through this next chapter of Catherine’s extensive series. I love how the end circles back to the beginning - the Weekday Bride series is a favorite.

This was more than a love story. It was a story about a girl who had to face her past on what she has done, except it and let herself love others and be loved by others. It was about how family is more than blood. It’s about people who care and protect you and would do anything for you. The main character had a dark past and through the book the reader learns how that is keeping her from getting closer to people and from love. I loved how it taught the readers what “love” is and how love comes in multiple different forms; not just in the romantic way. It also was a good mystery book that you didn't know what was going to happen. I could imagine the suspense as I read and it was a race at the end for the good guys to stop the bad guys. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it. This book also connects with the first book in the series with the same characters but you don't need to read the first one to understand what is happening in this one, which I liked.

U likdolivia. I couldn't get into the descrptions. I was put off. I couldn't get hooked. Okay pace? I liked the relationshis.

Good book!! A fast paced thriller! With lots of action, suspense, drama, and heart pounding moments! I really enjoyed reading this book! I definitely recommend reading this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for sharing this book with me!

Catherine Bybee is a definite go to author with her amazing romance and mystery/suspense writing. I was thrilled for Olivia's story after getting a glimpse of her in Claire and Cooper's book.
Olivia is a loner- no ties, no tangles- just her skills learned at Richter making her a top assassin feared among her even closet allies. Olivia is on the outskirts of Neil's security team, she'll do the job but keeps everyone at arms length not wanting any entanglements with personal relationships. While working a case in Vegas to protect a vulnerable witness, Olivia is shot in front of undercover FBI Agent Leo Grant (introduced in Book 1 Changing the Rules), hits her head and wakes up in the hospital with amnesia. FBI Agent Leo assumes the bullet is meant for him and wants to protect Olivia. Soon Neil enters the scene and Leo realizes Olivia is much more than a beautiful woman he met on the street.
Leo teams up with Neil's security team to keep Olivia safe which means hiding her away in a Colorado cabin. While living together, Leo and Olivia can't hold back the attraction they have for one another. I loved the vulnerable side of Olivia while she was unaware of what a true badass fighter she was. Her superhero powers shined through on several fun occasions that had Leo wondering who this woman truly was.
Everyone is timid around Olivia as she heals as they know her M.O.- RUN! Time is ticking while they all hope Leo can offer Olivia a reason to stay. Olivia has reasons to fear for the safety of those close to her and when her memory starts surfacing, plans are in motion to RUN!
Action packed drama ensues when Olivia hits the road and Leo and Neil's gang are hot on her heels to protect not only Olivia but the crucial witness in the high profile case.
I love CB's writing as it is a guarantee of fast paced drama, action, love and suspense. But I truly love the family of Neil McBane and his security team! Looking forward to Jax's book!

Nobody writes a well-crafted book like Catherine Bybee and her newest one, A THIN DISGUISE ( Richter #2) is another example of her talent.
Olivia Naught, assassin-trained and looking for redemption, is shot on a Las Vegas street just as FBI Agent Leo Grant is asking for her phone number. Olivia wakes up in the hospital with dissociative amnesia. Leo wonders was the bullet meant for him, or this strange and intriguing woman with no memory.
Fairly soon we find out who Olivia really is and her relationship to the case Grant was covering. As part of Neil McBane’s elite security force – although she’s never really been his employee – Olivia was working to keep Leo’s star witness in a child trafficking ring, safe. Going into full protection mode, McBane takes Olivia to Colorado with Leo in tow, to help her heal and hopefully restore her memory.
I love a good forced proximity romance and this one is a doozy because the house is filled with people and yet Olivia and Leo see no one but the other. When her memory finally returns, Olivia sets a plan in motion to get the person that shot at them – alone and without help.
Leo has something to say about that, as does the rest of the team.
Fast-paced with sexy dialogue and wonderful character, this is sure to be another hit for Bybee.
Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake for a sneak peek at A THIN DISGUISE. My rating: 5 stars.
