The stories in this collection are some of Poe's best but also his most familiar, so Poe readers will have already encountered them. The book's value lies in its illustrations. They're appropriately creepy, featuring faces that look like wide-eyed porcelain dolls following dollhouse tragedies. I was a bit put off by the pages that have white text against a black background -- sacrificing ease of reading for unnecessary artsyness.
