The Grand Duke relies heavily on art to carry the story, as a graphic novel should. Layouts are conventional but the illustrations are well=executed and sometimes striking. I liked the use of color, particularly in nighttime scenes. The text doesn't measure up to the art but it seems to make accurate use of historical details.
