I listened to most of The Dating Dare while walking and working out and it was so much fun and great motivation. I loved the instant connection between Tara and Seth. It was fun to see them have fun on page (and in my ears) as they learned to like then love each other. They both have some deep issues but finding themselves in each other was a fast paced and funny ride. Lots of great food and drinks references only helped with keeping me attached to my reading. Jayci Lee has a style of writing dialogue and stories that is exclusively hers and I think I am going to come back for more.
This is a fun Rom-Com read. The main couple in this story, Tara and Seth agree to four dates after a Truth or Dare game. It was fun reading about this cute couple. I think they went well together. I like how a wedding is what began their relationship. Their chemistry was hot and reading about their dates was entertaining.
I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review.
The Dating Dare is the first & won’t be the last book that I read by Jayci Lee! I was captivated from the first page to the last!
I voluntarily reviewed this book.
I had a hard time getting into this book, maybe because it’s the second in a series. It was a sweet romantic comedy but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the first book in the series for more background. Either the author needed to recap the previous book a little or it should be more clearly labeled as the second in a series instead of her follow up book..
This was a fun story, and it definitely made me want to return to Paris, but for some reason, I had a harder time becoming invested in the characters.
Fun, cute and easy read. The characters chemistry was perfect and the story kept me hooked from beginning to end. I couldn't stop smiling while reading this rom-com.
I’m not sure why, but I did not enjoy this book. It is a trope I enjoy in a genre that I enjoy, but for whatever reason the book and I did not gel. Some of it may be due to how quickly the MCs moved from being uninterested or aloof to all in that felt disingenuous. The writing done well and there fun parts, but unfortunately they were not enough for me to read again or recommend it.
Seth and Tara have both been burnt by love. They are determined to never fall in love again. But their attraction is so strong for each other, staying away isn’t an option! It was great to see them get back all the things that they gave up on.
This story has all the feels! I can't describe exactly how much I loved this book. The book was such a fabulous romance. With two reluctant lead characters, they surprised themselves by falling in love. The book was sweet, sexy and so full of romance! The book was hopeful and left my heart happy when I reached the end. I really couldn't put the book down. I read it in one day and think this one will be on my list of books to read again! This was my first book by Jayci Lee but definitely not my last. I will definitely be on the lookout for more of her books. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
At a wedding, Tara and Seth make a dating dare. Both unlucky in love, they promise to go on four dates, without falling in love [or bed], between then and Seth’s move to Paris only 4 weeks away. Almost immediately all bets are off with plenty of unanticipated consequences. An enjoyable romp which results in life changes both challenging and unanticipated. There are plenty of smiles along the way toward a future neither planned when they made the dating date.
Cute and easy to read. This book requires no real thinking on your part as the reader. Rather it just asks you to sit back and enjoy the story as it unfolds.
Yes. Yes! YES!
I swear that Jayci Lee can do no wrong in my eyes! Everything she writes is just simply perfect and The Dating Dare is no different!
Seth and Tera are wonderful characters that had me cheering them on! I loved the game of Truth or Dare that started the whole thing. Sometime I love from this author is the diversity. I’ve read books where it felt so forced or like the author was checking a list. Not with Jayci Lee. Everything is organic and true, which makes it just that much sweeter.
This is a fun and cheesy read. Perfect if you’re feeling down or even a great beach read. I was so warm and fuzzy after reading this and I know you will be too!
DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS BOOK OR THIS AUTHOR!!!!
***Thanks to NetGalley for this title***
This will go live on my blog - 7/09/2021
Not sure if I am just tired of this trope, but this one just didn't work for me. The pacing, the heat of it - just was hard to be convinced there was a connection between them.
I read A Sweet Mess last year and I enjoyed it but it wasn't one of my favorite romances of the year. The Dating Dare's cover caught my eye and the premise sounded interesting enough. Plus I recalled the ballzy Tara from the previous book.
Tara and Seth have both been burned by past relationships and neither is looking for something serious. They meet at the wedding of his brother and her best friend and there's an instant attraction. They dare each other to go on 4 dates and not fall in love with each other.
One minute this book would give me cuteness with the dates and the next it would give me janky dialogue and awkward situations. These two were on a picnic date that started off so cute the next minute they were practially groping each other in front of the kids they were playing a game with at the park.
I couldn't quite buy their love for each other because they jumped from extremely horny over each other to unable to live without each other real quick. The chemistry was kind of hot and cold throughout and it didn't help how irrationally jealous Tara would get.
The middle part of this book also needed a lot of work. And that's where the story truly fell apart for me. If it wasn't an easy read that I felt I could complete in a day I would've DNFd.
I LOVED this book! The relationship between Tara and Seth felt very real, and they were goofy together at times where I did laugh out loud. They seemed to have a real connection between the characters and their individual relationship fears felt well-grounded and thought out. I cannot wait to buy this book in a hard copy for my bookshelf, and I have already suggested it to many customers to pre-order. A fantastic read!
Sexy photographer, Seth, and beer sommelier, Tara, are drawn to each other from the moment their eyes meet at a wedding – Tara’s best friend and Seth’s brother. Wallowing in the misery of watching her best friend tie the knot, Tara invites Seth to her brewery for a drink after the wedding. Seth proposes a game of truth or dare, in which he sets up a dare of 4 dates with Tara… hopefully something a little more will happen before he moves to Paris for a new job. Tara agrees, no strings attached is easy; no heart on the line. But can they keep from getting attached as tensions rise and as deeper feelings begin swelling to the surface.
I really wanted to like this book. The premise was nice and I liked the characters professions and how that interacted with the novel, but main characters connection seemed so shallow. Their dialogue was cheesy and so full of innuendos, I had trouble taking it seriously. I found myself rolling my eyes often. Another thing that bothered me was that Tara and her older twin brothers (who I really enjoyed) still lived at home. They are in their late 20s and/or early 30s. They seem to have a pretty successful brewery, why do they still live at home? I related to Tara’s hesitancy in relationships and introducing people to family when you are unsure of where it is going… especially if you haven’t really had a very successful relationship before. Again, this presents a problem being in your late 20s and still living at home. If you had your own place and your own life, you wouldn’t have to sneak around.
Overall, the novel was filled with too much sexual tension for me and not enough character development. They rarely seemed to have actual conversations to get to know each other, they mostly just thought about sex and made innuendos about sex. Although there were some redeeming qualities to the novel and relatable back stories to why and how the characters are who they are, in regards to relationship fears… it just didn’t work for me.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC. A great story idea, but it just wasn’t for me.
I think this author and I are just ships passing in the night. I didn't love A Sweet Mess, and I liked this one even less. This author does have a strong fandom, so I really do think it's just me and my preferences. I won't sit here and trash it, but the brief reasons I didn't like it are: I felt like the romance was too "insta love," the characters were one-dimensional, and the story was too cliche/cheesy (I hate to call a romance cheesy....but that's the best word I could think of).
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's for an eARC in exchange for my review.
I saw a post about The Dating Dare on Instagram and was immediately intrigued by the description of this light, feel-good, romantic story of two characters who dare each other to not fall in love in the next four weeks. Well you have probably read enough contemporary romances to know what is coming, right? This book is engaging from start to finish, with a “no strings attached” witty plot.
I loved that both Tara and Seth, our spunky and snarky main characters, were completely relatable in that we may have also had horrible relationship experiences in our past, or we don’t tell our families too much about our dating lives. When these characters second guess themselves, I can completely understand that!
I also love the subtle foundation of the main characters culture. I feel like it added another dimension to the story without hitting the reader over the head.
I have not read anything by Jayci Lee prior to this book, but will definitely be on the lookout for her other writings.
Another terrific read. Lee's rich, decadent prose should come with a calorie content. She's got such a unique voice, and I loved seeing the way Tara and Seth overcome their personal demons to find love together. Highly recommended.
The Dating Dare is an easy, fun, and charming romantic comedy that readers will have no problem devouring in one sitting! I've been a fan of Jayci's books since reading A Sweet Mess last year and found this one to be just as sweet as the last one! If you're a romcom reader this is your next must read!
