I just absolutely had so much fun and I was so sad to turn the last page. I can’t wait to read more wonderful stories from this author.
I really wanted to like this one. The premise is cute and I am always happy to read a book featuring diverse characters. Sadly, I can't get beyond chapter two. After multiple attempts, I'm going to stop trying. The writing style is an issue for me. It's stilted. The dialogue is a little too "on the nose" for my taste and I don't feel a connection to the hero and heroine.
Thanks for the opportunity. I will not be sharing this feedback elsewhere.
Super cute contemporary romance!
The Dating Dare is the story of Tara Park, who guards her heart after serious heartbreak, and Seth Kim, notorious ladies man. The attraction is instant, and they both think they won't get serious but soon realize they have more in common that they thought, and maybe they care more than they anticipated.
I really enjoyed watching this couple grow closer and become vulnerable with each other, those deep moments gave real depth to the relationship and made you root for them, even though they were very stubborn. But I relate to being paranoid and reluctant after a painful breakup, so Tara really made sense to me.
This is a cute, fun romantic read!
Thank you Netgalley for this ebook arc.
So this is the second book I have read by this author and my opinion has not changed. This book ( The Dating Dare) is a fairy tale for adults. If you enjoy the standard Hallmark movie you will enjoy this book. There is no in dept story, I didn't feel any real connection to the characters and didn't miss them when I had finished. The characters have no depth and the story is superficial but put together it was enjoyable. It was very cute and a quick, easy and entertaining read, perfect for travel or a relaxing bubble bath if you can get past all the use of the "F" word.
I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The Dating Dare really surprised me. The premise truly doesn't make sense -- Tara Park and Seth Kim, two individuals who don't do relationships, get drunk together after a wedding and play a game of Truth or Dare, where Seth inexplicably dares Tara to go on four dates with him. Tara is highly skeptical of Seth because of his reputation as a player but she DOES find him super sexy. Since Seth is leaving for a new job in Paris in a month Tara decides she agree to the bet especially since they agree they absolutely can NOT fall in love. Does it make sense that two people who do not want a relationship would agree to date (like legit dates, not just a fun friends with benefits situation) for a month? Absolutely not.
I know it sounds like I hated this book but I truly did not. I stayed up until 3am finishing this book totally on accident because I 100% got sucked in. Even though the premise doesn't make a ton of sense Tara and Seth are super compelling characters. Their relationship is defined by chaos from their disastrous meet cute (I won't give details but its hilarious) to the hi-jinx they get into on their dates. The banter is witty and the sexual tension between them is REAL. And the grand romantic gesture at the end of the book is super swoony.
If you're looking for a fun kind of zany romantic comedy, I'd highly recommend this one.
A game of truth or dare leads to love for Tara and Seth, but their past relationships and fear of getting hurt prevent them from seeing what's clearly in front of them. I like that this story involved diverse characters, and gave some insights into a Korean woman's family life. There was sarcasm, romance, and fun in the dialogue, but the writing was a bit too formal for a novel of this kind. I can't imagine a brother and sister speaking to each other the way Tara and Alex did. Cute story overall, but the writing style stopped me from giving it a higher rating.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
When a post-wedding hangout ends with a game of Truth or Dare, there’s a lot more than fun at stake when feelings get involved.
This is the second book of Jayci Lee’s series, and although you don’t have to read the first to enjoy this, you’ll want to check it out at some point; it’s delightful!
From the start, Seth made his way into my heart. Any guy can say the right things to show he cares, but the old saying of actions speaking louder than words rings true, and he shows time and time again how smitten he is with Tara. Though sometimes corny (and Tara calls him out on it more than a couple times), his gestures are always a genuine representation of how he feels.
Jayci Lee is a master of descriptive writing. Places came to life, and I swear I could taste some of the delicious food and desserts Tara and Seth shared throughout the book (so be warned: don’t read this book on an empty stomach!).
If you’re looking for a warm story that wraps you in with just the right amounts of swoon, angst, comedy, and cheesiness (because who doesn’t like a side of cheese with their romance?), this book is for you.
I was provided an e-copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Very sweet and swoony read.
I appreciated the fun back and fourth while they tried to deny their chemistry. All in all a fun quick read
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a EARC of this title in exchange for my honest review
This was a fun read! There were many moments where I caught myself laughing out loud. Some slow parts, some steamy parts, and overall a good book!
As much as I wanted to, I just couldn't get into this one. I tried several times to start & restart & keep going, but it just felt draggy to me. I don't know why, because I loved the premise and the characters, but the writing just couldn't keep my attention.
Sweet. Steamy, and a lot of fun to read, just new to this author but really enjoyed her book. Romance readers and going to enjoy this one a lot!
Fast-paced, smart-alecky and indulgent, THE DATING DARE is incredibly fun! Beautiful Tara Park meets hunkalicious Seth Kim at Tara's best friend's wedding. Sparks ignite between them and they share after hour drinks together at Tara's brewery. Flirtatious fun and a drinking game ensues. It leads to a Truth or Dare session and Seth proposes a four date mandate. Seth is leaving for Paris in a month for business and Tara is completely consumed with her brewery, so four dates is perfect. No falling in love for either of them or will cupid's arrow zing them?
THE DATING DARE delivers a delightful dance between two likable stars who find out they have unbelievable chemistry. Ms. Lee expertly delivers a believable romance with entertaining characters, complex relationships, while delving into human nature and its flaws. There are plenty of obstacles along the way and Seth falls fast for Tara despite their dating rules. Does Tara fall for Seth just as completely? This story is sure to please Ms. Lee's fans! I thought it was a fantastic follow up to her first story. Definitely put THE DATING DARE on your to buy list. It's refreshingly frisky!
This book was very funny at times. I really liked Seth and Tara. It was witty and romantic and just what I needed. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this novel. I believe it has an audience--it just wasn't for me.
More information in the "to the publisher" form. Thanks!
I am all for cheesy romance novels. So, when I read the description of The Dating Dare on Netgalley, I couldn't pass it up. Tara and Seth are the main characters in this book and they strike up a deal to date but do nothing too serious with no attachments for a couple dates until Seth moves to Europe. Their banter throughout the book is nothing short of cute but steamy. I was very entertained while reading the entire book. I had no idea this was a sequel from another book but I had no problems not reading the first book. The Dating Dare can be read as a standalone with no problem and still make sense.
I loved the diversity that this book had which made it a little different from other romances but in all the best ways. I was rooting for the two main characters throughout the whole book which is what you are supposed to do while reading romances so way to go to the author on that one! The dates in this book were unbelievably cute that I wish a guy would go to that extent with me.... I had a lot of fun while reading this book. While I only rate books five stars that are my absolute favorites The Dating Dare still did not disappoint in the slightest.
If you want a cute cheesy romance then surely pick up this book! You will not be disappointed. This would make a great beach read. I breezed through it pretty quick.
This was such a cute book! This is the second book in the A Sweet Mess series. This can easily be read as a stand alone though.
Seth and Tara decide decide to go on a dating dare. They’re going to go on four dates with one another, and not fall in love. Sounds easy right? It ends up being way harder then they imagined. I loved both Seth and Tara, they were such likable characters. I was rooting for them the entire book. I also loved the small town setting of this book. Small town romances are one of my favorites!
Overall this is such an easy, quick, and sweet read. I highly recommend bringing this book with you on your next beach or vacation trip!
Tara Park meets Seth Kim at the wedding of her best friend/his brother. The “meet cute” happens as she calls him out at the reception for staring at her all night long. Which leads to an after date and a game of truth or dare where they agree to a “no strings” 4 dates before he leaves the country for a new job. The cutest part was the “interruption” of their first date. The author tried to write a strong, independent heroine but at times she didn’t come across as very mature for being 28 years old and surviving her disastrous first relationship. Overall it was a pleasant read.
The characters were instantly attracted to one another but I just couldn’t connect to the characters nor the story. There wasn’t any build up or tension. This just didn’t work for me.
The Dating Dare" was the over-the-top, but in a funny, sweet, and cute way.
At the wedding reception for Tara's best friend Aubrey and Seth's older brother, Landon, Tara catches Seth ogling/gawking at her and confronts him. Their banter eventually leads to them leaving the wedding reception and going to the Weldon Brewery, which Tara runs with her family, and a game of truth or dare involving beer. After some more conventional rounds of truth or dare, Seth gets the opportunity he was hoping for.
"The Dating Dare" is an enjoyable book and one I would certainly recommend.
The story started out to be amusing and a lighthearted fling, but became more touching with the passing of each page. Great banter and chemistry between this smirky couple. A good feeling of family and community comes through making the reader feel part of the book. I will definitely look for more books from this author as I throughly enjoyed her writing style.
