Cute little don’t fall in love with me while I dare you to dare me story. Dialogue is a little choppy but the banter between them is cute. Lots of blushing and talk of the Ego. This a nice quick romance read.
This is a spin off of Jayci Lee's earlier book A Sweet Mess. When a groomsman and bridesmaid end up playing a drunk game of Truth and Dare, the Dating Dare begins. They must go on four dates, and not fall in love. What could go wrong?
What I liked is the story line. It felt unique. While I've ready many date but do not fall in love books, the game was an interesting spin. I also like the characters and their unique professions.
Just like her earlier book the writing seems a bit amateur. I love the story premise, but it could still benefit from a good editor.. I lke her books, but don't love them. While in the series it can be appreciated as a standalone.
Because these are fast fun rom-coms I'll continue to enjoy more in the future :)
A delightful book full of adventure, action, and thrills. Fun to read, engrossing world building, and very descriptive imagery made it feel like it was cinematic. It's hard to resist the story as it drives forward. Would recommend.
I did not read the first book in the series so I was not sure if I would have a problem starting with the second book. No problem at all! I read it and enjoyed the entire book. The story was sweet and charming, and it had a lot of great humor mixed in. It was a perfect read for me!
I loved A Sweet Mess, so was pretty excited for this sequel! Tara and Seth are friends-of-friends who have serious chemistry at a wedding, but both have been burned by previous relationships and don’t want a new one. The plotline is quite predictable, but I still really enjoyed the ride, even as I was occasionally beating my head against the wall with the characters not being honest with each other. I really liked how the big switched between Tara’s and Seth’s perspectives, which made it feel well-rounded. My only complaint would be how hard the chemistry between the two was pushed; it felt a little bit fake for two people to be THAT attracted to each other.
Unfortunately, this book was just decidedly fine. The heroine was a bit clumsy, but I enjoyed the hero; The relationship just felt a bit flat for me; there didn't seem to be a lot of natural chemistry or dynamics between the two.
And this is so random, but the words "the dating dare" just seemed to show up in the text so much that it felt like a game of find the title.
Overall, nice escapism, but not something I'll be running to recommend to others.
Jayci was guest in my podcast promoting this book. I really loved this series and I have to say that the audio is excellent.
OOuuufffff. This book was not good. The premise should have tipped me off that I wouldn't like it, yet again bit in the ass for not reading the synopsis before reading/listening. I did listen to this one thanks to Libro.fm, which is the only reason why I finished it. It was just so bad, so juvenile and terrible cheesy. Clearly I'm very sick of the "let's have sex but not date and we definitely won't fall in love with each other" trope. This one really didn't work. I wanted to quit listening at 50%, but figured I'd keep going. I almost quit at 80% for fear of my eye rolling turning into my eyes getting stuck in the back of my head. The characters were boring and insufferable and a little bit pathetic. It was insanely predictable and just overall not good. Sorry.
I enjoyed this book for the most part! I had not read the first book in the SWEET MESS series so that would have been helpful, but overall I found the characters had great chemistry and although the book contained many rom com cliches, I think they worked well to balance the "sweet" and sultry aspects. Dating deals are one of my favorite rom com tropes so this was a win for me!
The premise of the book did not sell it for me but ultimately it was alright. I won’t be returning to the characters as I found them to be a bit immature but I was able to finish the book and find some enjoyable and cute moments in their romance.
Seth and Tara are committed to going on 4 dates after a game of truth and dare. While neither is in a position for a serious relationship, they need to start thinking about what they want to commit too.
This was a sweet love story that kept me reading. I enjoyed getting to know Seth and Tara and watching their relationship blossom.
This was my second book by Jaycie Lee and she is quickly becoming a go-to author for me. This is book 2 in the Sweet Mess Series. And yes I will be requesting book 3 for sure. Although this is part of a series, I feel that it could for sure work as a stand-alone if you haven't read book 1. The story follows Tara Park who helps run the family brewery. When a truth or dare game with Tara's best friend's new brother in law Seth, lands her in a 4 date romance for the month that he still has before he leaves for Paris, Tara finds she is having more feelings than she anticipated. This was a fun, lighthearted, romcom that was a great break from the thrillers that I have been reading lately. I really enjoyed this next installment and will for sure be looking for the next in the series. 4 stars. Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the eARC.
This was what I call a cheesy romance story, but it was cute. It just didn't live up to the hype I was hoping for. I didn't connect with the characters and found it hard to get into. But overall, it was a cute story that had a lot of potential.
Sorta cute, rather juvenile and yappy overall. The any innuendos between male and female regarding body parts and the cursing were.off putting. Just not my cup of tea. If you can tolerate that sort of language and behaviors, then you may enjoy this book.
I was provided an advanced reader copy of this book and was under no obligation to write a review. The opinions expressed are my own. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book.
It's very unique and very cute. I love the chemistry between the two main characters. I did not know this was the 2nd book in the series though, however it didn't seem to matter too much! Also made me laughvout loud.
A cutesty, pretty cheesy romance that I had fun reading. I really enjoyed Tara and Seth's chemistry and found them so adorable together (especially all their silly excuses to see each other). Is it the best romance I've read? No, but it hit that sweet spot I need between heavier books.
Great if your looking for a romantic quick read with a bit of depth and decent spice.
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
This book was really not my favorite. The characters felt like they fell in lust, not love and there were some cringey moments I could not get on board with. The story was cheesy and the dialogue was awkward. I also felt like the park scene was super weird. One minute they are picnicking and then playing with kids and then basically mounting each other in the grass. Did not make sense and creeped me out.
This book was adorable but I feel like it wasn’t all that special. Nothing about the characters really stuck out to me. Reading it was fun but this isn’t a book that I feel I will be wanting to reread or come back to.
Having never read this author’s work before, I found that it was a cute read. I had not read book one and was not lost in the characters.
Another beautiful and romantic story from Jayci Lee! Full of interesting characters and swoony moments, The Dating Dare shows that love will shop in the most unlikely of places.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title. All opinions and mistakes are my own.
