My first book of Jayci Lee's I've read and now I have to get my hands on all of them, especially the prequel to this one in particular! Tara and Seth (and supporting characters) seemed real and well written. The fear and anger they both felt from their previous ex's gaslighting hit a little too close to home for me. I loved that it was a HEA but that it still left the door wide open for their story to continue in another book. Sometimes its nice that they're happy but the future stretches out unanswered!
While this one had its cute moments, I found the banter kind of childish and stilted and I didn’t feel the chemistry between the main characters. I had a hard time with the premise itself as it seemed like a silly, unbelievable reason for the two to spend time together. Unfortunate since the writing style was paced well and used language that is the direct style I prefer in contemporary romances. I hope I click better with the other books by this author.
Thank you for a copy of The Dating Dare! Seth and Tara were fun and witty characters. I loved their banter and the tension between them. A fun, light read!
No serious relationships. This is the one rule Tara Park made for herself and it has been working swimmingly, thank you very much. The occasional fling is fine, especially since she’s busy with Weldon Brewery. But when Seth Kim, temptation personified and her best friend’s new brother-in-law walks into her life, Tara might be willing to bend her golden rule…but only for four dates—the four dates she agreed to after a few good rounds of beer and a game of truth or dare. It’ll be fun. No biggie.
Seth Kim can’t believe Tara agreed to his dating dare. He’s leaving for a new job in Paris in a month and a no-strings attached fling seemed like a nice little distraction for both… But their secret dates, while sweet and sexy, always hit roadblocks straight out of a romantic comedy. Thankfully, their non-dates and chance meetings are smoother, frequent, and heated. However, the more Seth sees of Tara, the less willing he is to let her go—and what was supposed to be a fun little game turns into something that neither of them are ready for.
But sometimes, the best things in life are the ones we never see coming.
This is number two in the Sweet Mess series, and while I haven’t read the first one yet I thought this book worked well as a stand-alone. That being said, I enjoyed this one so much I’ll for sure be reading A Sweet Mess soon!
Tara Park helps run her family’s brewery, and after an emotionally abusive relationship, she doesn’t do ‘serious’ anymore. But a bit of fun with a hot guy just passing through town? That she’s up for.
Seth Kim is in town for his brother’s wedding and then sticks around to look after the newlywed’s house while they’re on their honeymoon. Next stop, Paris for a great new job he’s starting in a few weeks.
At the wedding the chemistry between Tara and Seth is unquestionable, and a drinking game leads to a round of truth or dare and them agreeing to go on four dates together. The catch is, neither of them is allowed to fall in love. They both think this part is hilarious because they certainly won’t be the one to break that part of the bargain.
Of course, the more time they spend together the more time they want to spend together. But despite their growing feelings, there is still an expiration date on their fling.
This book was filled with funny banter (always my favorite) and completely loveable characters that I felt I could have actually met in real life, they felt so alive. It was sweet, but still absolutely full of sexual tension. There was no shortage of hilarious little moments both on and off their dates as well.
A very cute rom com. Sometimes it’s a little too cute and cheesy but we all need that sometimes. This is a feel good book so you know what you are getting into with it. On Goodreads this book is being categorized as number 2 in the “A Sweet Mess” series. While I also read A Sweet Mess, I don’t think it is necessary in order to read this book. This book can definitely be read as a stand-alone. Kind of like Jasmine Guillory’s series where characters pop up in other books but they are all standalone books. Looking forward to seeing if the author continues to write more books with various characters from these first 2 books.
I'm sorry to say, but I have DNF'ed this book. I tried to read it in duration of 3 months and I just can't do it anymore to myself.
Both main characters acts like two bickering teenagers. The dialogues between them were felt unnatural and cringe worthy.
The plot was predictable and with plot holes in too, so it was just infuriating to read sometimes. I even tried to skip some pages with a hope, that the story will get better, but unfortunately it didn't.
Do not recommend this book.
I loved this book! The chemistry between the two MCs is amazing. Swoon worthy moments. I adored the amount of steam, it was just enough for these two MCs. The references to brewing beer was fun to see as well!
I really enjoyed Jayci Lee’s first book, A Sweet Mess. This one was fun to be back in the same world but did fall a little flat for me. The love between Tara and Seth felt a bit unbelievable due to its immediacy. I understand the level of attraction but even that felt unbelievable especially as it so quickly became love. That said, I still rooted for the characters. It just had some pacing problems, dragging in the middle and an abrupt ending.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ecopy for my kindle. What a super cute story. I loved A Sweet Mess. I think I loved The Dating Dare just as much. Seth was a sweetheart and so was Tara. Their chemistry was off the charts. This was the perfect fluffy romance that I needed.
This was a cute rom-com but it left me wanting more character development. I found it a bit lacking and the whole dare idea a little weird. Maybe it was a bit over the top in the cheesiness but it was a cute quick read. I just wanted a little bit more.
This is one of those books that is an okay read, it's not brilliant but it's definately not bad either. It's a fence sitter read.
I kinda like Tara and Seth but I found them easy to forget if you know what I mean. I won't remember their story in months to come, which happens sometimes.
A tad too cheesy for me I think.
This is the 2nd book in a new series by author Jayci Lee. It is better to read the first, but if you don't the author updates the reader enough to keep you following the characters and storyline.
This book was more enjoyable than the 1st book, which doesn't happen often in a series.
The sweet romance that blossoms between Tara and Seth was enjoyable to read and felt like something I could see in a Hollywood movie.
This book was cheesy and predictable in the best way and I loved every minute of it. I found both main characters likable while still getting frustrated at their mishandling of their baggage but also understood where it came from. While it's not a groundbreaking book that will stick with me, it was exactly what I look for in a quick romcom when I need a break from everything else.
I read this book not realizing it was the second in a series so now I'm excited to go back and read the first book!
Last year, I read and enjoyed A Sweet Mess, by Jayci Lee, which was a romance about a Korean-American couple. It was cute and sweet (as indicated by the title) and involved food! (a fave subject of mine). So, I was excited to pick up the new follow-up, The Dating Dare.
The Dating Date picks up at the wedding reception of the couple from A Sweet Mess. Tara is a bridesmaid and the best friend of the bride. She doesn't DO relationships. She is all about the hook-up and moving on. But, she detects a spark of connection with Seth, the brother of the groom. Seth is known as a bit of a playboy, so Tara really doesn't want to be interested. The two agree to a dating dare, where they will go on four "uncomplicated" dates with each other.
This missed the mark for me a bit. I didn't like it as much as the first one. Maybe it was the lack of food or maybe it was that I didn't get why Seth and Tara couldn't just try to communicate a little better. Whatever it was, I am not ruling out reading additional books by this author.
The audiobook was well done and entertaining.
New to me author but definitely won't be last. Thoroughly enjoyed this story. Thanks Netgalley and to the publisher for letting me read this advance copy.
Fun! I've purchased it for the library. I'm currently clearing out all of the books that were published in 2019-21 from my title feedback view!
I loved the first book. Loved loved. Same for this book! I want to read more from this world if possible.
This is the second in Jayci Lee’s “A Sweet Mess” series. You don’t have to read them in order to be in the loop with what’s going on.
The Dating Dare had a cute premise, with a “will they, won’t they” vibe. While they both knew they liked each other, the back and forth of ignoring their feelings for one another got a bit tiresome.
3 stars because while the story and premise were cute, I still felt like it was missing something.
the dating dare was just absolutely truly adorable with the premise that truly pulled me in. with their dates with the dare of not to fall in love with each other, it definitely has a fake dating trope feel to it. seeing them go on these dates and of course develop feelings was really funny to see as in the usual rom com fashion the expected drama of feelings and resolution into a cheesy happy ending made my heart full! tara was definitely my favorite in her strong self independent personality looking out for herself and wasnt really looking for romance at the moment.
I loved this book! I don't think I've ever read a book about someone making a dare/bet with the other person to date them but it was super fun. I think the writing is fantastic, its fast and witty and I loved the chemistry between the two characters.
