I really wanted to like this book but I couldn’t get into it. I read it to the end. It was hard to follow it at times. I felt like the main character was annoying and not very bright.
At one point, I suspected everyone was involved in the murder of Nina.

This book had a lot of twists and red herrings in it. I sort of had the person figured out (suspected in the back of my head), but really did not see the end coming like it did. I felt like Alice's obsession was a little strange and the one murder (in France, I believe) seemed very far-fetched to relate to Nina's murder. Overall, I love this author and felt it was a good, suspenseful mystery.

An ingeniously plotted thriller which puts the heroine in the driving seat for a change.
Leo and Alice have been looking for a house to buy together in London: he’ll sell his flat and she’ll sell her cottage in Sussex. So when Leo finds a perfect house at an unbelievably good price, which means Alice can keep her cottage, she jumps at the chance even though she hasn’t seen it herself.
The house is in a gated community of a dozen houses in North London. Alice tries hard to make friends but there seems to be some resistance to her among the other women though they gradually warm up. But when a private detective reveals that she’s living in a house in which a woman was recently murdered and, the detective believes, the wrong man was convicted, the tensions start piling up.
Meanwhile, there are woven in vignettes from a therapist’s notes, though there is clearly something very off about the therapist.
There are, of course, a plethora of suspects both possible and eyebrow quirking as Alice starts digging into the neighbors’ potential motives. What I really appreciated was that Alice is not in any way trapped or forced to do unlikely things - she has friends and financial independence, she has another place where she could live - but her choices are what drives the mystery. Though her family and sister were killed in a car accident when she was 19, she seems stable if a little prone to imagining spiritual visits from the dead. The setting itself is also nicely normal - there’s plenty of people around and it’s in a busy metropolitan neighborhood. It’s almost as if the author has set herself a challenge to create a psychological thriller without any of the usual elements (which she herself has employed in her previous novels) - and succeeds!
Thanks to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for the digital review copy.

What a terrific book! B. A. Paris is the queen of neighborhood suspense--of bitter secrets, gaslighting spouses, manipulative neighbors and twisted motivations. I was turning the pages so fast, I had to remind myself to slow down and enjoy the confident clever writing--and Paris's super skills at plotting and depth. Sinister and suspenseful, a with a surprise around every corner--this book of secrets and lies and wonderfully unreliable characters will captivate you! Loved it.

A real who done it. You keep thinking you know who did it, One of those books you read in two days because you need to know if you are right about your guess

B.A. Paris is so, so good at writing thrillers! Our main character moves into a house... not knowing a murder took place. She becomes suspicious... and there are twists and turns along the way. You won't want to put this one down! Thank you so much to netgalley and to St. Martin's Press for the ARC!

When Alice and her boyfriend Leo move in together, their relationship quickly fractures after Alice learns that the previous tenant of their new house was murdered. The neighborhood seems to be covering up something (or someone), but Alice decides to stay in the house anyway. She also discovers that Leo is keeping a dark secrete from her, and she isn't sure who she can trust.
For me, the culprit was fairly obvious. The first part of the book was intriguing, and the climax was suspenseful, but the middle of the book was problematic. I couldn't understand why Alice remained in a house with such a sordid history, in a neighborhood full of people she couldn't trust. This is book that requires you to suspend your disbelief and just "go with the flow" without overanalyzing some of the character motivations. But if you're in the mood for a light domestic thriller, this book will probably satisfy your appetite for a couple of evenings.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced reader's copy in exchange for my candid thoughts.

I don't know why I ever read unreliable first-person narrator suspense novels. They really aren't my jam, and yet sometimes, I just can't help myself. In this one, Alice and her partner Leo move into a gated community where *something* happened. And Alice decides to take it upon herself to figure out what *actually* happened, which might not match what everyone says happened.
Alice and her decision-making skills are ridiculous. Why did she stay in the house when she was so uncomfortable? Why is she with Leo? Why is Leo so tolerant of Alice? Uggh, the book and its characters annoyed me. And yet, I finished it; towards the end, I even enjoyed it. The beginning was a total slog, though.

Thank you to NetGalley, B.A. Paris and St. Martin's Press for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.
As usual, I was not disappointed by Paris' writing! I really enjoyed this novel and read it as fast as I possibly could. I liked the main character and how curious, but suspicious she was of everyone living there. I loved the little breadcrumbs that were dropped throughout the novel that didn't totally add up until the ending. I didn't suspect the killer at all even though they are right there in front of our face the entire novel - it was genius! I really enjoyed the different characters we met in the Circle and how neighbourly everyone appears to be. I definitely recommend!

Yet another great thriller by B. A. Paris. The Therapist is a thriller mystery that keeps you on your toes!
Alice and Leo moved into a new house in a closed gate community called The Circle. Alice is adapting to her new life in London and getting to know her new neighbors until she finds out there was a murder in the house she is living in. Alice attempts to be friendly with her neighbors to find out the truth behind the murder of Nina Maxwell, but they’re keeping mum. She soon realizes her neighbors might have more to hide than she thinks.
I’ve never been disappointed by a B. A. Paris thriller before, and this one has got to be one of my favorites. Paris does such a great job of keeping the reader on his or her toes by throwing red herrings everywhere. Just when the reader might think they know who the murderer is, the author deters by adding another clue. I was pretty much suspicious of everyone at one point!
Also, I thought the author did a fantastic job in developing Alice. She has a lot of depth and Paris have really put a lot of thought and realistic development on her character and how her life shaped her actions, which I think most authors fail to do. I definitely enjoyed the adventure of this book. I finished it in two days.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the Kindle ARC. I've read all of B.A. Paris's books and, while for me they are lighter reads, I've enjoyed all of them. The fast pace, the suspense and the thrill of finally finding out who committed the crime are worth it to me. The Therapist revolves around Alice and Leo, unmarried partners who have been seeing each other for some time, however from a distance. Alice agrees to give up her cottage outside of London for the opportunity to move in with Leo in London to a home he has purchased in the gated neighborhood called The Circle. The neighbors seem friendly enough, but Alice gets an odd feeling about the house. She soon finds out that Leo withheld information about the house. Alice attempts to get more info from the neighbors, but finds herself alienating them with her questions. Plenty of twists and turns in this novel. I like to think that I'm able to predict how thriller/suspense books will end and who the guilty party will be, but it was really difficult with The Therapist. I'd recommend it for anyone who is a fan of this genre.

The setting: Alice and Leo [a couple, not married] move into The Circle, a small, gated community in London. "As Alice is getting to know her neighbours, she discovers a devastating secret about her new home, and begins to feel a strong connection with Nina, the therapist who lived there before. Alice becomes obsessed with trying to piece together what happened two years before."
Alice is reluctant to leave her beloved cottage in Harlestone, but decides to move in with Leo and rent out it out [leaving her options open].
When she finds out that Leo has not told her about Nina's death [murder!]--in their new home--and that she was killed by her husband, Oliver, she freaks. Add that Nina was the name of her dead sister, and fuel the obsession with uncovering if Oliver really killed her--there are secrets in the close-knit neighborhood.
Somewhat of a page turner and certainly easy to read, although...
I wanted to uncover the mystery but at some point, I thought it lost steam. I saw threads of possibilities as to how it would unfold--and my predictions were correct as to the twist at the end.
I found Alice, the narrator, whiny and shallow. This somewhat added to my boredom. I had several uh oh, oh no and feh moments. So--not really recommending. [just ok]

I’ve read every book by B.A. Paris and each one is just as good as the last. I’m honored that I was chosen to read this Advanced Reader’s Copy by Net Galley. It releases on July 13th. Alice and her boyfriend Leo, just bought a house in a swanky gated community called “The Square”. The entire neighborhood is a buzz and can’t believe that someone would by house #6. But why??? Leo, all knowing, never tells Alice that a brutal murder happened in the house, killing therapist Nina Maxwell. Her husband Oliver has been accused of the crime and is awaiting his trial. The more Alice looks into the murder, the more she’s discovering and the more she suspects her neighbors know more than they're telling. Why does she keep feeling Nina’s presence in the house and why are things oddly displaced throughout it? Has someone been in the house...or is this all in Alice’s imagination??? The more she digs into the murder, the further it separates Alice from Leo. Can they survive the lies and hidden truth behind all of this?
This was a great novel that kept me guessing the entire time. Never did I see that ending coming!!!! Whew!!!
My only drawback was that there was a lot of characters (neighbors in the square) and it was often hard to keep track of everyone. Excellent book!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Of course, the new B.A. Paris - does it really even need a review or any plugging? I did not enjoy the last title The Dilemma as much as some others did I did like The Therapist. Fast-paced, interesting characters and twists!

One of my favorite books I have read is Behind Closed Doors so when I had the chance to read B.A.Paris’ newest book I was excited to dive right in. This was a very fast read that focuses on Alice, a women with a past, who moves to a gated community in London with her boyfriend. Shortly after moving in Alice learns of a murder that took place in their new house and how none of neighbors want to talk about. Alice soon becomes obsessed with the murder and is certain that it’s still not solved.
This book had some of the twists that Paris is known for but I felt that the killer was a bit obvious. Despite that though I still enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it.
Thank you to Netgalley and to the publishers for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

I barely made it through the first few pages of this -- the writing was just very dull and cliched. It didn't hold my attention.

I really wanted to love this book because I didn’t care for the author’s previous novel. The Therapist was better, but only slightly. I didn’t connect with Alice at all. The way she clings to people she’s known for only a few weeks seemed unnatural and her knack to make the worst possible decision at any given moment aggravated me to a point where I was rooting against her. The dialogues were contrived and repetitive. The characters kept asking each other “how are you?” and we got to read the bland, generic answers. I’m sorry because I enjoyed the author’s first novels but this one was not for me.
I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thank you, NetGalley/St. Martin's Press!

The Therapist is the amazing new book by B. A. Paris, and she kills it again with another book that just grabs you and won't let go. The twists and the turns keep the momentum going and the pages flying. The characters are wonderful and you can see yourself as part of the group, the terror is much more than you would have thought and pace is fast. I loved this story of a young couple, a new house, new friends who are sometimes complicated and just when you think you have it all, oops not really. Thank you #NetGalley#TheTherapist# BAParis#StMartinsPress

Oh I loved this book! I really enjoy domestic thrillers and mysteries that involve tight-knit neighborhoods so this was right up my alley. Alice and Leo move into their first home together in a close London community. Alice wants to connect with her new neighbors but gets a mixed reception. These relationships are complicated when she learns that the former owner of her home was murdered in the house and her killer has not been found. It’s apparent that secrets are all around Alice and it is hard for her to know whom she can trust (including herself).
I was suspicious of every character and still did not see the ending coming so I appreciated the wrap up. This is just a creepy, confusing ride and I really loved the community setting most of all. This will be a big summer book!
Thanks to B.A. Paris, St. Martin Press, and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have read all of Paris’s novels and was happy to see this new book!
Alice and Leo just moved in together and bought a house in London; it is a gated community with only twelve houses. The women and their relationships are featured, as the suspense builds. Paris always writes a good book. Her characters are relatable (even if they don’t always make wise decisions!).
