Wow, another hit from author B. A. Paris! I’ve read all their books and my favorite has always been Behind Closed Doors but man The Therapist is right up there. I devoured this book in 2 days and it kept me up well past my bedtime. It had me guessing the whole time and I did not see that ending coming! A perfect summer read!
After having a long distance relationship Alice and Leo decide that they need to be together. While Alice is away on a trip, Leo finds the perfect house for them. It is in an exclusive gated community in London called The Circle where everyone knows everyone. Alice who had lost her whole family in a car accident when she was younger desperately wants to fit in and make friends. As soon as they move in though strange occurrences start to happen in their house and Alice is shocked to find out from a private investigator that a murder had taken place in their house. Alice is furious that Leo did not tell her and questions whether she can stay in the house and their whole relationship. Nina and her husband, Oliver where a happy couple until Nina was discovered murdered in their bedroom and Oliver was accused of the crime. Alice soon becomes obsessed when the private investigator wants her help to clear Oliver’s name. The Circle holds many secrets though and Alice is determined to find out the truth even if it kills her.
Alice and her partner move into a house in a beautiful gated community. But once Alice finds out that a murder happened in their house, she is determined to get to the bottom of the mystery.
This was a fantastic psychological thriller. I foundyself completely sucked into the theories Alice created, and even created dome of my own. Each new piece of information that came to light felt as if it could point to anyone.
It was slow to get into. I wasn't sure how I felt about Alice and her partner Leo. They seemed kind of boring. But once their love story and backgrounds started to emerge, I really enjoyed them. Alice's descent into an obsessive search for the truth was interesting to read and see how it affected her relationships.
The flashbacks to therapy sessions was interesting and I loved how it was tied into the story at the end. I will definitely need to read more from this author.
I'm a huge fan of B. A. Paris, and so grateful for the opportunity to read an ARC of this. The main character, Alice, wasn't my favorite, but the storyline kept me guessing until the final reveal, which I loved. I put on my biggest thinking cap, SURE that I was going to figure it out before the end, and... nope. Paris's reveals are always much better and more intriguing than anything I'd ever think up. Solid mystery/suspense from her, once again!
The latest thriller suspense from BA Paris is exciting!
A London, gated community, the Circle, is a new beginning for Alice and Leo. At the 'getting to know you' party Alice meets her neighbors and assumes one late arrival is Tim who lives a few doors down. No-one else seems to have seen this stranger. When this mysterious man knocks on her door days later he introduces himself as a Private Investigator looking into the murder of the former owner, a therapist named Nina, and the suicide of her husband Oliver a few months later. Everyone has accepted the police theory that guilt drove Oliver to kill himself, yet everyone only has good things to say about him. Alice is creeped out and upset that Leo never told her about the history of the house. The plot has so many twists as each person Alice meets becomes a suspect in her mind.
It kept me guessing! Final ending was a shock.!
I could not finish this book fast enough. Alice, the main character, has many intriguing characteristics. I felt like I was in her shoes many times, wanting to change her course of action, but so scared to see how it ends. Amazing book! Be prepared to want to finish in one sitting!
Alice and Leo have been dating awhile and decide to move in together. Leo says he will find a house and when Alice sees the pictures, she agrees, and Leo purchases it. It is an amazing house, secured by a gate and only 12 houses so it seems ideal. That is until Alice has a party inviting all those in the small community and later finds out a murder was committed in her bedroom. An investigator manages to crash the party and is intent in trying to learn more about the murder and possibly clear Oliver, his client’s brother, of his wife’s death. Oliver is said to have committed suicide after killing his wife, but Alice learns the case is still open. Everyone believes the killer is still out there. The small community, or the Circle, as they call themselves, is suspicious of everyone and not happy when Alice moves in and destroys the small knit group. This is a great book with plenty of suspects and twist and turns throughout the book. Several mysteries to unravel and can it be done before the killer confronts Alice?
I finished this and wish I had just left it as DNF about halfway through. There were some clever twists at the end, but the main character was absolutely infuriating in her willful idiocy. I thought my eyes would get stuck in the back of my head after she brushes off the third or fourth piece of clear evidence that someone else had broken into her house. I also felt the characterization of the ancillary characters left something to be desired as I had a hard time keeping the cast of characters straight as well.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
First of all, I can't thank the publisher enough for letting me read and review The Therapist. I missed the initial request period on NetGalley. When I clicked "Wish for It," I wasn't really thinking that I would get it. But then, I got an email saying "Wishes do come true!" I was jumping up and down in excitement! I am a huge fan of B. A. Paris, and I never imagined that I would be able to review a book by such a popular author. Once again, I am sincerely thankful to the publisher for doing this!
The Therapist by B. A. Paris is a twisty mystery that is her best book since her debut Behind Closed Doors. In fact, I actually like The Therapist better than Behind Closed Doors. Believe me, I've read all of her books, and I never imagined myself saying that, but it's true. The Therapist is now my favorite B. A. Paris book, and if you have liked any of her books before, you should check this one out!
The book revolves around Alice, who moves to a gated community near London called with Circle, with her partner Leo. At first, it seems perfect. She meets her neighbors, four couples who are happily married and enjoying life in the exclusive neighborhood. Soon, she gets entangled in the first mystery when a guest shows up uninvited to a neighborhood get-together at her house. Alice believes he's her neighbor Tim, but she soon finds out that the real Tim looks completely different.
Here is an excerpt from Chapter Six:
"There was something strange though," I say. "I discovered earlier that one of the men who turned up shouldn't have been there."
"Oh?" Edward says.
"I thought he was Tim from number 9," I explain. "But I saw Tim earlier and realized my mistake. So now I'm curious as to who he was... Leo is worried and wondering if we should call the police."
After I read this scene, I felt chills up my spine, and I was so scared that I couldn't go to sleep. I had to switch to another book and then continue reading the following day. How horrifying would it be to move to a new location, throw a party for the neighbors, and then realize that one of the men there wasn't a neighbor at all? And this creepy situation isn't even the central mystery of the book! The central mystery is what happened to Nina, the previous owner of the house where Alice and Leo now stay.
My favorite part of this book is undoubtedly the ending. I enjoy mysteries where the author drops hints throughout the book that foreshadow the real culprit. The "Aha!" moment when all the threads come together is one of my favorite parts of reading mysteries. Too many thrillers skip this part and blame the crime on a minor character that was barely mentioned and doesn't make sense. I am so happy to say that this does not happen here! I enjoyed reading as Alice investigates the mystery of Nina, and when the real culprit was revealed, I was immensely satisfied. The ending made sense. There was also some dark humor thrown in near the ending, which I also really enjoyed. I can't remember the last time a book in the thriller genre made me laugh out loud.
Overall, if you've ever enjoyed B. A. Paris's books before, you will definitely enjoy The Therapist. I highly recommend it for all readers of mysteries, especially those who are tired of mediocre and typical thrillers. This book is seriously one cut above the rest, and you will not regret reading it!
I previously read Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris and was interested in trying another book by this author. The title also drew me in because of my interest in the field of psychology. The Therapist is a fast paced read that had me guessing until the very end. I questioned the initial suspect at the beginning, but it wasn't until the conclusion where my suspicions proved to be correct. I always like to pay attention to information revealed and why an author may have included it to try to solve the mystery. However, there were many aspects that threw me off and had me second guessing all the characters in this close kinit community and their involvement in Nina's murder. Highly recommend for fans of psychological thrillers.
Quote from “The Therapist”, used to gain trust and help clients relax...
“Do you know what Henry David Thoreau believed? Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it, the more it will elude you. But if you turn your attention to other things, it will come and sit softly on your shoulder. “ 🦋
Too bad our therapist is sooo judgmental! 🙄
SOMETHING happened at #6 The Circle.
And, the house set empty for a year prior to it finally being SOLD.
Alice and Leo, can both feel a presence in their new house.
Is it real? Or is it imagined?
Alice becomes obsessed with finding out what happened to Nina, the therapist who occupied the home before them. But, her new neighbors don’t want to talk about it…
Yes, B.A. Paris is back with a story of psychological suspense! And, I was thrilled to be invited to read an early copy, by the Publisher.
I, along with our protagonist Alice, suspected just about everyone at one time or another! This one will keep you guessing!
BUT-Alice exasperated me! She could talk herself into ANYTHING to justify some “not so smart” choices that she made.
Like staying in that house!
Even after more than one neighbor whispered a warning to her!!
But, if she had left we wouldn’t have a story!
This wasn’t my favorite by the author because I am not a fan of OTT endings…but if you like em crazy-this might be your new favorite! 🦋
Thank You to St. Martin’s Press for my gifted copy!
It was my pleasure to provide a candid review!

The Therapist by B.A. Paris is a psychological thriller that kept my interest. I have enjoyed all of B. A. Paris' thrillers! Even though I thought I might have figured out the murderer, I could not be for sure because many of the characters had secrets. The characters were interestingly written and added depths of mystery to the story.
Alice agrees to move in with Leo and he decides to buy a home in London. Leo finds a home in a gated community that is selling for a much lower price than the normal market value because it had been unoccupied for several months. Alice does not really like the house or the community but buying it will allow her to keep her cottage in Harlestone, so she agrees to move there with Leo. One night Leo jumps out of bed because he thinks someone is in the bedroom. They search the house but do not find an intruder or any sign of entry.
Leo works away from home four days a week and Alice settles in at the new house. Alice can see her neighbors as they come and go around the square from her windows. She realizes, all the houses are built the same and the arrangement allows each neighbor to see into the square. As she makes attempts to meet her neighbors, she has a feeling they are talking about her and keeping secrets. Alice soon learns disturbing information about why the house had been unoccupied, a person was murdered in the master bedroom! The former couple who lived there are both dead. Nina was horribly murdered, and her husband later kills himself, which seems to be proof of his guilt in her murder. Alice is devastated that Leo had not told her about the murder in the house before she agreed to move in with him. What other secrets does Leo have to hide?
I won't post spoilers, but as Alice tries to find more details about the murder of Nina, the more obsessed she becomes. She now wants to leave the house, but Leo loves the house and wants to stay there. At night Alice wakes to feel a presence watching her sleep. Does she love Leo enough to live in the house with fear, or is she willing to give up on their relationship?

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The Therapist by B. A. Paris is a heart-throbbing dilemma for Alice and Leo with underlying therapists' scenarios that add more suspense and mystery. as the story progresses. Alice becomes fixated with solving the suicide-murder that took place in her newly purchased home and suspects the entire gated community while she is haunted by ghosts of the past or break-ins of the present. Which is it? The book will keep you guessing until the surprising end.
Good mystery, just took awhile to get there.
Leo and Alice lived a charmed life until they moved to the Circle. Then strange things began happening....While I enjoyed the character and story development, it may have gone on a bit too long. The ending definitely held some suspense and I enjoyed Paris' conclusion to the book. This was my first Paris book, but it won't be my last. Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC.
The house in The Circle was suppose to be a fresh start for Alice and Leo. But when a private investigator knocks on the door, Alice discovers a shocking secret. Suddenly, Alice is in a tailspin to reach the truth. She becomes suspicious of her neighbors....and then soon Leo. Alice's impervious relationship with the truth will send her into a path of destruction not realizing it could be her own.
The Therapist is a captivating twisty novel which was a compulsive read. I am always excited to get my hands on a B.A. Paris novel and this was one of my favorites. I am eagerly awaiting the authors next literary adventure.
The Therapist keeps you guessing with many twists and turns. After moving to a new community with her boyfriend Alice learns that the house they are living in was the same house that a woman had been murdered in. She gets drawn into trying to clear the woman’s husband of the murder. But all is not as it seems. If you enjoy reading murder mysteries or psychological thrillers you will enjoy this book.
I thank the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Solid 4.5 stars. I always enjoy B.A. Paris's books, they all feel very different.
This story follows a young woman who has just moved into a gated community with her boyfriend only to find out that the owner before was murdered in her house.
We follow her through her cautious interactions with her neighbors, she feels it has to be one of them...right?!?!
Great read, had me guessing until the end. Can't wait to read what Paris writes next.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book and give my honest opinion.
The Therapist by B.A Paris
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mini Synopsis: Alice moves into a new neighborhood and is distraught to learn her new home's previous owner was murdered. Right where she is now living. Alice gets caught up in trying to solve a murder that she has no business in. She starts to suspect some of the neighbors.... Who can she trust? Who has secrets?

I really enjoyed this book! The burn was slow, but really, really creepy. Think night stalker, sneaking into homes, fake therapist turned murderer? While I guessed some of the twists, the last few pages were pretty jaw-dropping.
.
Thank you @netgalley for an early read on this one! You'll want to get a copy when this hits shelves in April!
I'm not going to sugarcoat it. I struggled hard with this book. Really hard. I had to force myself to finish this one. I couldn't wait to read it either. I was pumped to dive into another book from Ms. Paris. I've loved most of her previous books.
This book is painstakingly slow. Actually, painstakingly slow doesn't even begin to describe it. Truth nugget: This is one of the dullest books I've read in a long time.
The majority of the book went through the main character's every day routines over and over again. There felt like there was no point to this book. I truly thought about giving up.
Towards the end, things finally picked up. At that point, I had already checked out. The twists and aha moments didn't hit me with the desired effect they should have.
I hate to say it, but this book just wasn't it for me. I will look forward to the author's next book though. We're all allowed a dud here and there.
I was super excited to read B.A. Paris' latest book and so glad when I received an advanced copy. The premise revolved around Alice and Leo moving into their dream house in the exclusive community in London called The Circle. The only drawback, the house has a tragic past. The story revolves around the incident as Alice tries to piece together what happened. I found the middle was a little redundant in regards to Alice constantly questioning the other neighbors to see if she can get to the bottom of what happened as well as the secrets the other neighbors may be harboring. It seemed like her questions were the same over and over. I think this could have been cut down a little bit as it seemed to slow the story down a bit. With that said, however, the last third of the book really picked up. Several red herrings as well as a nice little twist at the end definitely made up for it. Certainly worth the read.
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy
The Therapist is a twisty thrill ride where everyone is lying to others or to themselves. The reveal of the killer is a tad clunky and somewhat of a let down rather than the "A-HA" moment it should of been. That being said, B.A. Paris has written another heart pounder where I could not put it down. The undercurrents between the neighbors of the Circle were deliously juicy. The dynamics between Alice and Leo were plausible but perhaps a bit one sided on creating empathy for Alice and her plight while painting Leo as the bad guy. The spying of noisy neighbors in the exclusive enclave was propelling the plot along while Alice bumbled through the investigation of who killed Nina the previous occupant.
