This is a wonderful book about living large and lost love. Maggie who was nine when her father, who was an Air-force Pilot, died. Her mom struggled throughout her life to deal with the death of her husband and told Maggie to beware of men who play and live too hard because tragedy always prevails. Maggie ended up marrying Brad who was an accountant but had a son Aden who loved challenges.

While on a trip Brad died but Maggie survived. Maggie decides to clear her head and to go on a trip once her son left for college. While traveling she re-connects with her first love from school, Paul who is a race car driver. Maggie loves Paul but remembers her mother’s words about loving a dare devil. Should she live her life alone or plunge into a loving relationship with someone she has cherished all her life?

Maggie's young life was fraught with loss. Losing her dad as a girl and her brother as a young woman. She saw her mother consumed by grief & nearly paralyzed with the fear of losing another loved one. She chose a boring, quiet, stable man as her 2nd husband and vehemently impressed upon Maggie the need to avoid a thrill seeking daredevil teenage BF who would surely break her heart. After college, Maggie chooses a quiet and conventional life, marrying an accountant and having a son, she is content and happy with their life. When yet another tragedy strikes, Maggie is left widowed and has to figure out how to pick the pieces of her life up and go on. She begins a journey of self discovery both figuratively and literally. And on this journey, she crosses paths for the 1st time in 30 years with her high school dare devil boyfriend. Does she protect her heart & play it safe or does she dare to throw caution to the wind, risking everything, and maybe, just maybe... finding everything? Typical Danielle Steel, fast paced, draws you in, can't put it down. Also typical… Nice people, bad things happen, people have more money than they know what to do with and live what for the most of us would be unrealistic lives, more tragedy, then happily ever after. And yes, I enjoyed it😁

The story starts out and you can somewhat predict what will happen, but the way it was written and the areas talked about makes the story very interesting and enjoyable. The supporting characters really add to the book. I really really enjoyed this book! 5 stars!

Danielle Steele wrote another winner here. The question of how much we're willing to give up for true love is investigated. After losing her father and brother (both pilots) in plane crashes, she married an accountant. Thinking they would have a quiet and sedate life, Maggie is heartbroken when she and her husband are in a plane crash on their way to a conference and he perishes.

She reunites with her childhood sweetheart , Paul, who has pursued adrenaline rushes as a professional race car driver. Can Maggie overcome her fear and PSTD to have a fulfilling relationship? Danielle Steele provides wonderful backdrop to a world we can only imagine.

I received a free ARC eBook from Net Galley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinions.

A long time fan of Danielle Steel. I’ve read almost every one of her books. However this one felt rushed a bit and seemed in parts repetitive. Ms. Steel can be counted on to carry themes of love, loss and heartache. Her characters overcome life’s ups and downs to find a happy ending. Nine Lives centers around this storyline . Will Maggie find true love after a series of devastating situations? I’ll let you surmise the ending.

A great story, one I couldn't put down once I started.

Maggie Kelly knows grief. Her life as a military brat ended when she was just 9 years old, when her dad, a pilot for the navy dies during a mission. Her mom, Emma, becomes a shell of the woman she was, leaving Maggie to raise her younger brother, Thomas. Her mom remarried 5 years later for safety only, a nice boring man with a stable job.

When Maggie meets boyfriend, Paul, a bike racer when she's just 17 and he's 18, Emma doesn't approve of their relationship. After high school, Maggie goes away to college and Paul travels the world racing. But when her brother enlists in the navy then dies in Iraq, Maggie finally listens to her mom's advice. She eventually meets Brad, an accountant who she marries and they have a son, Aden. Emma dies shortly after due to dementia and heartbreak.

Twenty years later, Maggie and Brad travel to NY for a work convention only to have a crash landing in the Hudson. Maggie is rescued but Brad isn't. Being alone for the first time and raising a senior in high school, doesn't allow Maggie time to grieve much. She has a son to send to college. But after finding out that her husband and the airlines have ensured her financially for life, she's at a loss with what to do.

When her friend, Helen, suggests that she travel to Europe, she does. What she never expected was to run into Paul, 30 years later in the South of France.

Paul's still the big risk taking man he was at 18 at the age of 48. Maggie knows that she can't get involved with him and his lifestyle. But running into her first love brings back feelings she never had before.

After an accident nearly kills Paul, he breaks his promise to stop taking risks. Maggie knows that she has to look out for herself and Aden this time, so she walks away with a broken heart. But she never expected him to come back.

A must read!

Like many others I am a longtime reader of DS books. Yes, some of her storylines sound familar. Yet she can draw me into her characters. I enjoyed reading of Maggie's journey. This was a good fast read. Her books are like comfortable friends.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley for my voluntary, honest review.

Maggie loses her husband in an accident. She runs into an old boyfriend from her teenage years. Paul is still the same guy just now he is a millionaire Maggie has issues with people dying from dangerous situations.
I did not like the character Maggie. I thought she was to self centered.
If you read Danielle Steel books then you will probably like it cause it follows the formula of her other books.

Yet another excellent read by Danielle Steel. Nine Lives is about what one is willing to risk for love - and sometimes having to walk away to protect your own heart. Steel's books are moving, emotional and timeless.

Danielle Steel is a consistently good read. When I want a solid women's fiction book, I pick up Danielle Steel, and I am whisked away to my grandmother's living room. I cannot count the number of books I pulled off her shelf and read. Sometimes, however, Steel writes a book that outshines her others, and she does that with Nine Lives.

It's a book about risk and the choices you take when it comes to love. It's about loss and second chances. Take this one to the beach and drift away.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sharing this book with me. All thoughts are my own.

So who hasn’t read a Danielle Steel book? I used to sneak them from my sister and read after the parents went to bed, it’s like a coming of age tradition. This story, while still good — doesn’t go down as my favorite book by this author. I am not sure why either. Which frustrates me. The book and I just didn’t fully click. Even so it was still a good story!

The main character Maggie has had great losses in her life. She has always tried to play it safe but she learns that planning it safe WILK not be safe enough. When Maggie takes a trip and gets to move on with her life ahe runs into her old high school boy friend who is a risk taker. Will she be willing to take A chance and sort him back into her life ? Will she just return her safe life. It will not disappoint. Thank you net galley for allowing me to read and review this book.

Maggie has had her share of heartbreak in life. So when she is in high school and falls in love, her mother warms her away from her boyfriend, claiming he will break her heart with his thrill seeking adventures just like her father did to her. Instead Maggie goes on to marry a dependable man and has a son with him. However in a twist of fate, her husband dies and she is left widowed. On an adventure around the world, Maggie reconnects with her high school boyfriend after 30 years apart. Will Maggie be able to handle the fact that he is still as dangerous as ever?

Maggie grew up in a world of grief, as an adult she vowed to live a safe life never stepping outside her comfort zone or taking risks that might cause her world to turn upside down. Maggie's main focus in life is to keep her husband and son safe until tragedy strikes again. On her own for the first time, Maggie is pushed to face life head-on and she does just that. Stepping out of her comfort zone and taking risks that she knows may end in disaster but may also end in a lifetime of happiness.

In Nine Lives we get Maggie's journey of life and love. After the loss of her father, brother and husband Maggie is left with a teenage son. She decides it's time to live life again and travel. I loved the way the author brought Maggie and her high school love Paul together again. After years of living a safe life she lets love win out this time. Danielle Steel has written another great novel about believable characters living true to life lives. The storyline is a heartbreakingly beautiful one filled with tragedy and love. I look forward to reading the next book by this fabulous author.

Maggie has grown up with loss and devastation. Listening to her mother's warning not to fall for someone willing to take risks with his life, she settles for marrying a stable man and plans to live a quiet, content life. When another tragedy occurs, Maggie is lost trying to figure out how she's lost so many people, even the most safe and stable one. With her son Aden going off to college, she plans for a trip visiting places she's always dreamed of going. A surprise destination lands her face to face with her first love Paul, and she's transformed back in time with her reckless and carefree ex. Her head and heart are torn, knowing she loves him but can't handle another heartache if something happens to him. She makes a tough decision but can she really leave her heart behind with the man who's made her feel alive again?

I enjoyed the descriptive, scenic places Maggie visited. I understood Maggie's decision and her fears. She went through so much loss. She didn't want to end up like her mother but she eventually did, and she also instilled her fears and protectiveness to Aden. This was a good read and look forward to reading more from this author.

Thank you Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the opportunity to read this book.
