tackling my backlist of netgalley arcs, starting with COMPLICATIONS!! my grandma loved danielle steele books, which is why i requested this a few years back. this story surpassed my expectations and i actually really enjoyed it!! i loved the third-person POV that narrated the different characters’ experiences and feelings throughout the story. i loved alastair and gabrielle’s storylines especially. pleasantly surprised by this one!
Complications is a woven tale of several guests who meet or cross paths while staying at a hotel in Paris and the aftermath of a few incidents that happen while they are guests.
Complications started off strong and I felt like it was going to be a great story filled with a little mystery and some love. However, this is not what happens when the book ultimately follows two of the main characters and their love journey.
The other characters, which their stories had a lot of potential, felt like afterthoughts that were barely touched on again and quickly wrapped up/mentioned at the end.
I did enjoy this book, but I did not love it. The character development was decent, but I wanted more and it felt a little superficial and surface-level and I really wanted a little more.
I'm a bit late to review this one. It was interesting to explore the ups and downs of running a famous hotel. You can only imagine what goes on behind the scenes of a client's effortless stay.
Steel writes imaginative and wonderful descriptions of Oliver and Yvonne, tasked with caring for guests. It's a touch of romance, adventure, and mystery in the best and worst case scenario with implications for staff, guests, and onlookers. I got caught up in the drama, especially since I used to clean hotel rooms during college summers. (Ugh. But I learned a lot!)
I enjoyed this novel. I also plan to tip my servers and maintenance personnel a little extra on our next stay.
This was my first Danielle Steel book and I loved it! There is a reopening of Hotel Louis which is a famous boutique hotel. There is so much drama that unfolds. There is a lot of characters we have to keep track of so it gets kind of overwhelming at some points. It is definitely worth a read!
I absolutely love this book, and I love reading Danielle Steel’s! There has never been a book of her that I’ve read that hasn’t been awesome and this one isn’t any different. It’s full of love, excitement heartache, humor, and a whole lot more! Trust me this is a book you need to read! Thanks for writing such a great book!
This book is why I read Danielle Steel. Fun characters who fall in love after tragedy, loss, or some type of negative issue in their life. A strong setting. Strong dialogue. One of her best. Total page-turner. Quick read. Enjoy it during a weekend with a few cups of coffee or tea. Then pass it to a friend for them to enjoy. A fun tale worth talking about. Loved it. I hope she writes more like this one. I will be a very pleased reader.
Complications by Danielle Steel is an enthralling tale about a famous luxury hotel, Louis XVI, and its guests. After restorations, the hotel opens to old guests even though there are still some bugs to work out. On the first night of its reopening, several "complications" occur that could easily bring down the hotel and its guests. Can the hotel and its guests survive this drama filled night?
Danielle Steel is a master and has been for so long. This book holds up to her stellar storytelling keeping the reader intrigued from start to finish. I highly recommend this book.
I needed a book to read that would take me away from my normal. Danielle Steel always provides that escape. Her books include romance, many interesting characters and enough drama to keep you turning that page.
Set in a luxury hotel that is having an exclusive event after renovations, the character emphasis is on celebrity names and much richer than me guests. As the story quickly provides drama and suspense, this reader was pulled into the luxury setting where the staff learns that rich and famous does not mean easy to please. Medical emergencies, murder and blackmail, politics....it's all there.
A little different than Steel's usual romances and strong women protecting their families, I enjoyed the pace and the story line.
I hAve been reading Danielle Steel books for as long as i can remember, This was true Danielle Steel at her finest. I loved this book!!!!
#Complications by #Danielle Steel takes place in Paris.
At the Hotel Louis XVI the most lauded boutique hotel for decades. With a new manger and a number of new faces. Complications quickly escalate into a matter of life and death.
Thank you for the advance copy,

Danielle Steel can write from so many different angles. Complications is written from a few different view points, and how one night can affect so many people. Story starts with the Grand Reopening (after 4 years of renovations) of the famous hotel Louis XVI in Paris. She always does such a great job setting up the scenes and describing things so accurately that you can feel like you are there. Her characters are always well written. I really feel like you get to know the characters well with how much development she puts into them.
The storyline kept me engaged, I did not want to stop reading at all.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Delacorte Press for the opportunity to review this book.
It's Danielle Steel - what's not to love?
I enjoyed it very much!
For people with different lives come to stay at a exquisite hotel in Paris and deal with complications during their stay. Plot of story grabs all the readers attentions and leaves you wanting more towards the end. Amazing characters, definitely recommend to all readers who love drama, mysteries, etc.
Being a long time Danielle Steele fan this was just ok. It felt forced and there was not much than made me want to finish it sadly.
I loved the characters in this book and the way they used disaster in their lives and moved into the next chapter. The description of the hotel made me want to visit it someday. Great easy read.
Danielle Steel knows how to write amazing stories and this is no exception. I enjoyed this story from beginning to end and would recommend it.
Great book!. Follows the story of multiple people who all stayed at the same hotel when tragedy struck. How will their stories end?
I read an uncorrected proof of this novel. Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own, but sometimes an uncorrected proof might not come out as well as the final version. I say this because Danielle Steel is a phenomenal writer, and yet this version was cumbersome to read. It could have been the circumstances of my life at the time, and trying to read a book of this caliber on a phone. The story was amazing, enriching, just as all her writing, and the characters realistic. I would definitely recommend.
While I did finish this book I struggled a bit at first to connect with the characters and their respective stories.
