Hotel Louis XVI, a fabulous boutique hotel has undergone renovations and is the backdrop for Complications. There are several interwoven storylines: an American fine arts dealer, an English internist, an American couple celebrating divorces from their former spouses, and a French politician. There are all guests in a hotel being run by the new insecure Olivier Bateau and his confident assistant, Yvonne Phillippe.
Danielle Steel has the ability to take interesting, unrelated stories and weave them into relatable plots that make for intense, enjoyable reading.

Another contemporary romance by Danielle Steele, set in a glamorous hotel. . A quick read with many characters and plots. Always look forward to her next book! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for an e-arc in exchange for a review.

Complications, by Danielle Steel, is set between London, Paris and New York and tells the tale of Gabrielle, a New York art dealer divorcee and Alistair, a London based doctor who is facing a cancer diagnosis. Both are guests at the recently remodeled Louis XVI in Paris and while they are there a murder happens as well as a guest who needs an emergency operation to save his life.

This is a typical Danielle Steel romance book. An easy enjoyable read.

Danielle Steele never fails to take me away for a minute. However, Complications was one I couldn’t get into. I’ll admit to skimming and didn’t feel I had missed much.

While the setting of this luxurious hotel was wonderful and the descriptions were good the story line just dragged on. There was a lot of repetition concerning what was happening with some of the characters, so much that I just kept skipping pages. Not the usual Danielle Steele story that makes you wrapped into the story and characters, give this one a skip.

As usual, Danielle Steele has delivered a romance with a strong female protagonist, my favorite kind of female character. It follows the people who stay at the venerable Hotel Louis XVI in Paris. The hotel is as much a character as any of the people who come to stay.
I loved the descriptions of the hotel’s luxury accommodations and services. This is a perfect beach read, I read it on a plane and the time flew by.
4 stars. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

The main character of this story is the Hotel Louis XVI. So much happens in the hotel in a very short time with all of the characters somehow intersecting. Sickness, secret trysts, murder, blackmail, almost honeymooners and more. There is too much going on and too many characters so I never truly felt connected or rooted for any of them. This is not a new format for this prolific author, but she has done it better in my opinion. It may be the first of her catalog that I didn’t love so of course will absolutely be back for more.

This was not my favorite book by Danielle Steele. This book felt long and drawn out. Plus half way through the ending was predictable. Skip this one and try another by her.

Another story beautifully written by Danielle Steel! The famed Hotel Louis XVI has been reopened after four years of luxurious renovations. There is a new manager in charge and unfortunately he is overly anxious and woefully unprepared for the problems that are in store, like murder, medical emergencies and more. There’s never a dull moment.

An esteem group of loyal returning guests is set to attend the grand opening joined by a number of new faces whom manage to secure coveted bookings in the wake of last minute cancellations. The new manager Olivier Bateau an anxious man whose lack of experience leaves him unprepared. He and his assistant manager Yvonne Philippe both strive to continue hotel traditions. They quickly realize that anything can happen at anytime. A successful art consultant arrives for the first time since her divorce and is surprised to find a new love. A new guest contemplates ending his life and saves a life instead. A couple finds their once-in-a-lifetime trip interrupted by a tragic medical emergency. A French politician and assumed presidential candidate hold a mysterious meeting that will threaten his life and legacy. Danielle Steel has been my most favorite writer of all times. Her books are enjoyable and keep the reader engaged till the end.

Mixed feelings in this one. Not my favorite Danielle Steel book, but not the worst either. I love when her books take place in Paris so I was interested in this one. This one centers on the reopening of a very luxurious hotel in Paris and has storylines about various hotel guests. Sometimes though it felt like there were too many characters so the stories barely scratched the surface. The problem with so many storylines is that often while you may like some, you don’t like others. I liked the story of the woman coming back for the first time after her high profile divorce and funding love again, but was so bored by the story about the French politician and his secret affair. That’s the risk when writing about so many people. Overall a decent entertaining Danielle Steel book. Thank you for providing ARC in exchange for honest review.

I always expect a lot from Danielle Steel, but lately I haven't gotten it. This is a good tale, but low on angst and too much going on. It should have been called "6 degrees of separation." She puts too many stories of couples together in this one for it to feel authentic. I get fiction should be outlandish, but none of these stories are outlandish. They are all typical newspaper headlines we see everyday with nothing emotionally strong or compelling about them. Don't get me wrong, there is romance and drama and heartbreak and an HEA, but nothing that makes it stand out to me.

Many others will probably like this one, but I guess it just wasn't a strong enough story for me to think, "Wow I loved that." it was more of a, "did I miss something? That's it?" question at the end.

I will say the scenery is well developed and the Hotel sounds like dream, so for that I can give it the 3 stars. I'm sure if this gets picked up for a movie, anyone watching it will say, "Wow that was better than the book." Sorry I'm not in love with this one. However I did finish it.

Thank you to Danielle Steel, NetGalley, and Random House for an ARC in exchange for an honest review*This is an author I never hesitate to pick up. She was my first "Adult" author I read and gave me my love for reading. Her books are well written and her use of details gave the story a realistic feel. This book is no different.

When I think of contemporary romance, Danielle Steel is not the first author I think of, but to be clear, she has long been the queen of making contemporary romance popular. I mean, who doesn't remember their first Danielle Steel book. Unfortunately, her latest books have been repetitive, and to be honest, a little stale. "Complications" might be her comeback. It is another contemporary romance, but different from her others as it follows several distinct story lines, which can be both frustrating and refreshing at the same time.

"Complications" follows three separate story lines of those who stay at the infamous Hotel Louis XVI at its grand opening, after being closed for several years because of renovations. In its first two days open, one guest has a massive heart attack, and a grifter dies after having sex with the secretary of the interior in their finest suite, sending the secretary fleeing. As a doctor tries to help the man who has suffered a heart attack, a woman across the hall supports the girlfriend. And so it begins.

There is still repeating, which makes me think Ms. Steel doesn't think much of the memory of her readers.
As there are three separate story lines, really two with a brief glimpse into the third, sometimes it's hard to follow, but I actually enjoyed this book. This book is interesting and catches your attention. Two of these story lines have a happy ending, and one doesn't. Which I also enjoy, the non HEA. A solid 3 stars for "Complications".

The story takes place at the luxurious Hotel Louis XVI in Paris, which has changed management. After undergoing years of renovations, the door opens with a new manager, Olivier Bateau, and assistant manager, Yvonne Philippe. There are a group of guests that enter and after that night, their lives change.

The first is a politician whose secret life is about to be revealed with lasting consequences. One that impacts his life but his family. The next is a couple, Judythe and Richard, who has been through a lot to finally be together, only a medical emergency might put their future on jeopardy. Finally, we meet the art consultant and the internist, Gabrielle and Alastair who are joined together by all the events surrounding the hotel. Whether or not a relationship will happen depends on whether or not they will face life's complications as a couple.

When I started, this was heavy on the narrative that I almost stopped. But, I am glad I persisted. I was drawn into Alastair and Gabrielle's story. Without their storyline, I know I wouldn't have continued. I loved that aspect of the tale the most, though there were other storylines introduced. The theme for them was that of a second-chance for love. What I did enjoy was how Danielle Steel intertwined the storyline around the hotel and how it affected the lives of some of the guests.

I also enjoyed the imagery of the Paris scenes and the dower house. I loved the descriptions and visuals that made me feel a part of the scene.

Thank you, #Netgalley for the ARC

This was such a different book than DS usually writes but as always I got sucked in and enjoyed it very much.

Such insight on the working behind the scenes in a non US hotel. And what lengths some will go to hid things.

Danielle Steel once again shows how the complications in life can sometimes turn out to be blessings. The hotel Louis XVI is the setting for this cast of characters. In the course of one night many lives change with outcomes good and bad. Patrick who has been living a life of deception is a departure for DS. . A gay man who is in denial of who he is. I think she does a good job in setting the stage for his outcome. There are other familial themes throughout her latest. It’s safe to say love, heartache and life situations are central to her story. If you enjoy the sentimental feelings you get reading DS like myself you’ll like this one. Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC. #Complications. All opinions are my own.

DS is a master at creating realistic characters and placing them in situations that tug at your heart and set your pulse racing. The reopening of this hotel is the perfect setting for many of these situations. The book was perfect for an afternoon escape.
Many thanks to Random House Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
