Found the heroine utterly unlikeable, being so judgemental and dismissive right from the very first pages. Unfortunately, not my cup of tea. This was a DNF for me, sorry
A Tablespoon of Temptation is the first book in A Recipe for Love series. It was the perfect light, fluffy romance to start off this fun series. The pacing was perfect, and the book was well-written. The characters were charming and so genuine it was easy to connect with them. Packed with emotions, this book will give you all the feel goods and warm your heart.
The book was entertaining, and I really look forward to the next book in the series.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received a complimentary copy of A Tablespoon of Temptation in exchange for an honest review. James was a gem even though I felt his feelings for Danielle were rushed and they went from 0 to 100 overnight. The cookbook and food reference was a clever segue into a "sweet" romance. This was a very predictable plot, but still enjoyable. Needs a few editing corrections, but overall, worth the the read.
So I decided I would take the chance on a new series because it looked interesting and there was mention of cookbooks and baking in the description and since that’s my second favorite hobby—to reading of course—I figured it was a match made in heaven. Kelly Collins was also a new author to me but I figured what the heck and I was thrilled with the choice because I really enjoyed this story. The story took us on a journey through one woman’s attempt to master not just a recipe for love, but an attempt to overcome her biggest fears and find love with a man that terrified her on so many levels and find her comfort levels in a new challenging job. Danielle is looking down the tunnel of possible unemployment, bothered by her bestie to find a hobby or a boyfriend, and just not wanting to deal with life, Danielle wants a break. When she finds a strange cookbook full of strange recipes and orders on the “proper “way to use it, she doesn’t think anything about it except using it to get her friend off her back. But then her world changes drastically. James and his company have taken over the resort hotel when Daniella works and he never imagined he would find himself drawn to his employee, especially when he is working incognito and she doesn’t know the truth of him. Soon they are becoming much closer than friends and coworkers, but the secret of James’s true identity hangs between them and when it comes out the disaster left behind could be bigger than either of them can overcome. I liked this story mainly for the characters, because to be brutally honest the plot has been done, but the hilarity and well written characters made the story worth reading. Danielle was smart, witty, and just that little bit of a disaster that made her human, with vulnerabilities and traits that made her relatable. I loved seeing her struggling with the cake recipe again and again, learning more and more as she went, and slowly coming to understand the life lessons the cookbook author was trying to impart with her recipe. She had a few issues for sure when is came to trust and that made James’s job that much harder in the end, but his willingness to work for her heart made him better. James seems like the typical blue collar guy struck rich in the beginning but we slowly see his issues go much deeper as we learn about his family life and youth, coming to like him even more. I enjoyed seeing him work to overcome Danielle’s fears and slip through her defenses to steal her heart. He was the perfect sweet and loving tough guy with a marshmallow center. Book two should be very interesting as we see James’s sister Allie meet her match and then I hope the series continues to entertain me.
It was an ok story but again predictable,. It stated off strong but went along the same typical lines.
I always like Kelly Collins books and A Tablespoon of Temptation joins that list. This was a great start to her new series- that I hadn't realized had already been realeased. I look forward to reading the other books now rather than having to wait!! YEAH!
Okay, I actually didn't expect to like this book but yeah, I did. It was cute and sweet romance. I loved the food references. And I like the part that Dani and James were not some mushy couple. I absolutely hated Chris but loved Trish. Hey, that rhymed. But there was no epilogue. Is that some kinda trend going about not having an epilogue? Whatever! I liked Allie. I liked the baking book part too.
A quick and easy way to pass the day with Danielle and James. 3 1/2 stars
James does what he always does when he and his partners buy a new hotel: go incognito so the employees act natural around him. Danielle was burned by a cheating ex and values honesty. After a failed marriage, she has adopted a “no dating coworkers” policy. Both have been burned by love and are cautious when they start feeling attracted to each other.
Both characters are pleasant and believable, but the story could’ve had something “more” to make it fleshed out.
I can’t wait to see the next story in the series.
Danielle is a recently divorced woman who is buried under her ex-husband's debt. She's reluctant to find a man after all that her ex-husband has put onto her and while at a flee market, decides to take up a hobby in the form of baking, except she can't cook or bake at all.
James has bought the hotel that Danielle works at with his business partners and, even though he's the CEO, works as the construction lead for renovation. He and Danielle meet and bond over her coffee and soon become more all while she doesn't know that he is actually her boss.
I loved both of these characters and really liked how we got both James and Danielle's perspectives on their thoughts and feelings. It gave a lot more insight and I was able to feel sorry for both James and Danielle and understood why James didn't want to share how wealthy he was.
This story did not get into the details and I think it worked really well for the story. Kelly Collins didn't provide any unnecessary information that I felt was unresolved by the end of the book.
My only issue was with Danielle and her determination to not follow the recipe for her cake (ie. the baking chocolate). But that was just a pet peeve for me. Otherwise, this is a definite read if you're looking for a lighthearted read.
I received an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.
She’s a woman who values honesty. He’s a man telling a lie. Will the truth bring them together or tear them apart?
Danielle likes her job at the resort and is trying to pick on some hobbies after a disastrous marriage. James is the CEO of Luxe Resorts and he has a more hands-on approach to the job without revealing who he is.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book received from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A sweet romance between James and Danielle. Danielle works at a hotel that James and his siblings recently bought. Her ex, Chris, also works there. Danielle is nervous because she has heard that there will be changes under the new ownership, and because of her relationship with Chris, she has lots of trust issues. At a local flea market, she buys a cookbook. Intertwined with the evolution of her relationship with James, Danielle, who has no cooking skills, learns to bake this Forever Fudge Cake. As with life, she learns, it takes practice, perseverance and a little trust. After she learns that James is not just a construction manager, Danielle must decide if she trusts
James enough to continue their love story.
Characters are well developed and you want to root for them for their happy endings.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange of an honest review.
A nice slow burn romance.
First of all, let me just appreciate the existence of two characters who are mature, real and human.
I loved Danielle, she was as James described her in the book,"strong and vulnerable at the same time", she is a woman who is successful and willing to give her heart.
James character was a little bit of a cliche, he was a rich man who likes to play undercover cop to let people "feel at ease", so while he was a common character, he was also a decent man who likes to make the woman he loves feel cherished.
My only complain is, i wanted more action, i wanted more stuff to happen between them to give the book some spice.
Overall, a nice read.
4.5 Stars!
A luxurious hotel, a romantic couple, and a delicious chocolate cake are what come together in A Tablespoon of Temptation by author Kelly Collins. Ms. Collins is a new to me author, and I am so glad I discovered her effortless writing style and amazing plot development. This is the first book from the Recipe for Love series and it can be enjoyed as a standalone.
Danielle Morgan and James Parks are new work colleagues. Due to outstanding work performance and new ownership, Danielle has been promoted to hotel manager, and she has no idea that James is not just the construction foreman. James wants Danielle really to get to know him, not the uber wealthy CEO of Luxe Resorts. Their romance evolves and they fall in love, however, they must overcome a few obstacles in order to find their forever together.
I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read more from this series. The characters are intelligent, strong, likeable, and fun. Overall, a well-written romance that will keep you engaged from start to finish.
Complimentary copy provided by the publisher via NetGalley.
I have to tell you I discovered this author over the last twelve months. A book from her Aspen Cove series had been waiting on my TBR for me to read, and one day I decided to read something from that never ending list. Well, I was so happy after I read it. In fact, it led me to purchase several more of Kelly's books. When I came across this book while browsing NetGalley, I knew I had to read it. A Tablespoon of Temptation was amazing. For a lack of a better adjective at the moment, I was impressed. This book had everything I look for in a romance. Character development is important. While this book doesn't have a broad timeline, I felt the characters developed nicely. Both James and Danielle were burned by romance before. And while they each did not swear off love, they certainly weren't seeking it out. Regardless, love found them anyway. Thanks to a wonderful cast of secondary characters, I was doubly immersed in the story. Engaged is an understatement. I loved this book!
The blurb does a good job in giving you a look into what the premise of the story it so I'm not going to ruin your reading experience by giving spoilers. I can tell you that from the first chapters, I knew this was going to be a five star read for me. There were quite a few elements involved in making this more than just a love story. There are secrets, humor, some angst and even a bit of whimsy.
And the end tied up perfectly, everyone getting what they deserve ;)
I definitely recommend this book to all lovers of romance and a feel good story with some complexity and a lot of heart! In fact, I recommend you add this author to your TBR. You won't be disappointed.
This is my honest and unbiased review and I thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
This is a beautiful romance that flows well and had me engaged all the way through it Two people both hurt by love and unwilling to risk their hearts again find one another and a passion they never expected
Danielle Morgan is struggling to make ends meet and is fed up with her friend trying to get her to reconnect with life again When her friend suggests she needs either a man or a hobby she will pick a hobby every time and a crate of used cookbooks starts her on a path she never expected. She soon connects with the James Parks the construction manager at the hotel she works in but she has a no work mate policy and she really can't afford to lose her job. She also can't resist James. He has his own problems after having his heart broken he turned to work and has given all of his time and effort to it but what no one knows is that he isn't just a construction manager but also the owner of the hotel chain. Will Danielle forgive him when she learns the secret he has been keeping
I loved this story and the characters, I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down, it was simply amazing!
Danielle is no cook, but when she wants a new hobby instead of a new boyfriend, she buys a box of cookery books at a flea martket. her new hobby does not get off to the best of starts, and then she meets James. She never thought she would fall for a co-worker again so is reluctant after what happneed last time. Will she give him a chance? As the story progresses, so do her struggles with one particular recipe she has chosen to perfect.
James is keeping secrets, so what will happen when Danielle finds out.
Loved this book, and went and read the next books in the series straight away, as others inherit the cook book.
