I thoroughly enjoyed “The Perfect Family” by Robyn Harding. Obviously when an author chooses that as the title, you know the family is going to be FAR from perfect. This particular family consists of the two heads of household- Thomas and Viv, as well as the children Tarryn and Eli.

When they start being harassed- house pelted with eggs, smoke bomb on their front lawn, car tires being punctured, etc. layers to every characters is unearthed. I appreciated the fact that the author set it up for the reader to make a compelling case for why each member of the family could be the reason they were being targeted.

I enjoyed trying to piece together who was mostly likely responsible for all the terror—both what family member was really being targeted and who the perpetrators behind all of the mayhem were. At times, I found the book addictive, wanting to read more and see what the end outcome would be.

All in all, I enjoyed this book and am glad I chose to read it. My only wish is that the ending was tightened up a bit. In some ways, I liked the direction the author went, but in some ways I felt like I needed more closure.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me an ARC of “The Perfect Family” by Robyn Harding in exchange for an honest review.

I liked this book, it was a fast paced thriller that had short chapters and kept you reading. I think it will be a great pool or beach read this summer.

Huge amount of thanks to NetGalley and Gallery books for an e arc of this book in exchange for my honest review.

The Adlers appear to be the perfect family. Their image is carefully cultivated to show wealth and success and they’re admired in their community. Of course we all know that what appears to be perfect on the surface is rarely the case behind closed doors. Someone has it out for the Adlers. It starts small; the house is egged, an apple is thrown. As it escalates, each Adler wonders if they are the reason behind the attacks. After all, each one of them is harboring a secret or two.
I enjoyed this one! With a publication date of August 10, 2021 you have time to put this on your wishlist

The perfect family from the outside looking in: a mother, father, son and daughter. When strange things begin to happen - eggs tossed at their house, tires slashed - each family member begins to question his or her own actions and how they might have led to having enemies. The chapters are narrated by each of the four family members and, through this, we learn their deep, dark secrets that they’ve each tried so hard to keep hidden.

Robyn Harding never fails to present and exciting, fast-paced suspense with lots of drama, twists and turns. Her character development in particular in this book was outstanding as their secrets and motives are slowly revealing to the reader. The whole plot worked well.

This was the 1st book by Robyn Harding that I was disappointed in- her previous books were all four and five star reads for me. This one just didn’t wow me like some of her other books did. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free copy in exchange for review.

Robyn Harding is easily one of my favorite authors and once again she did not disappoint! Harding is a master at making you feel as if her characters could be your neighbors, or even you. The “Perfect Family” in this book all have a secret to hide which makes the plot sail along perfectly! Without any spoilers - the very last line of the book was absolutely delicious. I will be putting this book on my neighborhood book club list to spice up suburbia! Thank you again for the advance copy!

For some of us, when a new movie gets released with popular actresses such as Meg Ryan, Jennifer Aniston, or Reese Witherspoon .... we feel a happy endorphin buzz.
Grab a girlfriend and some popcorn. Some of us look forward to these endearing psychologically savvy stories—a little overly dramatic —that cuts close to the truth of possibilities.

For Robin Harding fans, looking forward to her new release books- gives us that happy-breezy enjoyment buzz. Harding fans don’t need to read one review - they know they’re already sold!
I’m a little ‘already sold’ myself.
I have fun with her books!

“The Perfect Family”.... was perfectly what I was in the mood for. Being a little injured and frustrated that I’m needing to curtail my hiking - to heel - these days -
just starting a *Robin Harding* novel had me humming along with the many other Harding fans.

For the Adler family...
[Thomas, Viv, Eli and Tarryn]....
trying to keep up a façade of perfection—a stylized image - resisting humiliation- comes with a price for each member of the family.

A book club discussion about “Educated”, was slipped into a sentence.
I smiled ( great choice). Harding knew that readers were so familiar with “Educated”, mentioning the authors name, Tara Westover, wasn’t even necessary.

Say whatever you will about Robin Harding, but she knows how to mode American obsessions of modern present day fashionably. Spin classes, Lululemon sweat attire, Instagram, camming, Tofu stirfry, heated towel racks, the BMW, home decorating, the oversized, beyond budget, walk-in closet, and other prestigious driven goals.
It was no accident son Eli was the front line goalie on the soccer team at his college.
Fact is Robin Harding does contemporary well!

“Viv and I curated the appearances of wealth, with our big house, the luxury cars, and our sons fancy college. But I’d bought the house for a song when it was in foreclosure, and the cars were leases. We were still paying off the bathroom and closet renovations my wife had insisted upon. I married a woman who excelled at making things look pretty and perfect, even when they weren’t. It was her special skill, and she’d turned it into a career. We were just two of millions of Americans living beyond their means”.
Welcome to Portland, Oregon.

Fried pickles? Really? Man... the foods they serve along with thirty-seven kinds of beer in a hipster brewery/restaurant was giving me digestive scream attack-spasm-munching-nausea.
But I also laughed ....
as I said... I have fun Harding shenanigans.

Random vandals of eggs, apple, poop, and smoke bombs were at the core of the families group gathering discussions.
However...
It was the issues ‘not’ being discussed that were more alarming.

.....a kleptomaniac,
an abuser, an online underage sexually suggestive model, a rape observer...
blackmail, assaulting a stripper?....
College drop out delinquent?
drama, laughs, serious accusations, disenchanted pretense....
it’s all there .... plenty of family drama suspense whodunit entertainment.

Thank you Netgalley, Gallery Books, and Robin Harding.

This was a typical, satisfying Robyn Harding though not quite as good as her previous ones in my opinion. The house of a family of four has been suffering from abuse - eggs being thrown, bees in the garbage, tires slashed...etc. Each member of the family has their own secrets so who is assaulting their home and why?

The Perfect Family. Wow, this takes the idea of family lies and secretes to a whole new level.

This was good, it was literally non stop from beginning to end. I definitely did not see the twist coming. I would recommend this if you want a juicy thriller to inhale in one sitting.

This story is told from four points of view: mother, father, sister, and brother. Each family member has a secret that is slowly being unraveled for the reader while they cope with unnerving vandalism of their home.

I made it about a third of the way into the book without knowing what twists would lie ahead. The author gives limited backstory on the individual family members at the beginning, which makes it tricky and intriguing.

Unfortunately, the story then
became very repetitive and I found myself losing interest. Only one of the four “big reveals” came as an actual surprise.
I tend to prefer psychological thrillers that really keep me guessing until the very end. This book might have begun that way but didn’t finish strong. It was wrapped up too neat and tidy with an odd last minute attempt to keep it suspenseful.

Overall, I just didn’t think the book ended on a strong note.

On a positive note, it was a fast read that I am sure plenty of people will enjoy.

Thank you Netgally and Gallery Books for the e-ARC!

Thomas and Viv Alder live a picturesque life with their two children, Eli and Tarryn. Thomas and Viv have worked hard to have a beautiful home, nice cars, and well-mannered children. One morning, the Alder house is vandalized with with eggs and the entire family is shocked. However, Thomas assures everyone that this must be a random prank. As the family moves forward, the "pranks" grow increasingly violent when tires are slashed, a bush is lit on fire, and a dead rat is found in the fridge. The police advise the Alders to install security measures, but reassure the family these must just be pranks and, until they have evidence of who might be causing the terror, there's nothing they can do. What the police don't know is each member of the Alder family has a secret that could be the cause of all these attacks. As the vandalism continues, Thomas, Viv, Eli, and Tarryn try to resolve the issue because each of them believes they're the reason for the attacks. Over time, the Alders realize that keeping these secrets from each other might just become deadly.

This is my second Robyn Harding book and I just love and appreciate her writing style! The Perfect Family is an absolute page turner which I finished in two days. One thing I appreciate about Harding's writing style is her pace - it's quick and straight-forward without unnecessary fluff. While, I really liked The Perfect Family, I found it to be almost too much. Since the story follows four different family members and their individual secrets, there was a lot to keep track of. Moreover, there were storylines that I felt got too much attention or not enough; specifically, we saw a lot of Thomas and Chanel but not much of Tarryn, her friends, and Mr. Laughlin. Each member of the Alder family is incredibly compelling and their secrets are disturbing yet realistic. Overall, though, I think The Perfect Family is an unsettling, dark thriller with good twists, so I would recommend it to those who are even slightly intrigued by the description.

✨ The Title/Cover Draw:
I had read previous Robyn Harding books and wanted to try another. That’s the @netgalley and @gallerybooks for letting me read this ahead of publication.
💜 What I liked:
This book is told from the perspective of all 4 members of the family, which keeps it interesting. They all have secrets and the family is being targeted. But by whom and why? There were a lot of misdirections which made it a fast read.
😱 What I didn’t like:
This book seemed a little all over the place at times with the potential motive being a tad fuzzy. If the plot points were tightened and a little more complex, this book would be awesome. Nonetheless, it is a good read and very fast paced.
💁‍♀️ The Characters:
Viv (the mother), Thomas (the father), Eli (the son), and Tarryn (the daughter) all have secrets that could destroy a family.
🚦 The Ending:
When it is finally revealed who is attacking the family, it seems a little out of left field in one way, and in another way believable. I can’t fully explain why without giving things away though.
💭 Consider if you like:
Fast paced thrillers that are easy to follow.

Wow! This was one of the best domestic thrillers I've read in a long time.
There is a lot going on as the story is told from multiple prospectives, but it all flows together effortlessly. Lots of suspense, secrets, and some unexpected surprises. Truly couldn't put it down once I started.

Meet the Adler family. On the outside, they are a perfect family. Nice house, nice cars, successful and popular. But...each member of the family is harboring secrets of their own. And when they and their home become the target of pranks escalating into violence, they all must decide if it is because of them, or whether or not to come clean to the other members of the family. The whole time, you are kept wondering which “secret” is the root of the issues and I found their individual story lines all fascinating.

In short this was a juicy, fun, unputdownable novel.

Wow! This was my first Robyn Harding book and now I want to go get my hands on everything she has written. I am so glad I was able to get my hands on this one!

Highly recommend-all the stars!!

I've read a few other titles by Robyn Harding and enjoy the writing very much, so I was thrilled to see a new release with this amazing cover available for request. I quickly dove in.

From all outward appearances, Viv and Thomas have a wonderful life: beautiful home, two beautiful children, successful careers, and a happy marriage. But when they wake up one morning to find their house has been egged, the facade begins to crack. Each person in the family holds a secret, and as the attacks become increasingly more severe, the question of who is to blame inevitably arises. Who is tormenting the Adlers? Why?

I really enjoyed this book.

First, Harding's writing is taut and effortless. Even though there are four separate voices dictating the chapters, you can dive into them without confusion. They are distinct and engrossing in their secrets, and I thoroughly enjoyed the character development.

I also loved the conflict, the subtle escalation and the growing tension. Some storylines I found a little more endearing than others. I was particularly drawn in by Tarryn's arc, and I wanted to see more from her as the story progressed. Thomas and Viv's world felt, at times, chaotic and unbalanced, but the overall strength of their relationship was a nice focal point.

While there is a lot going on here, it never felt overwhelming. In fact, I'd go so far as to say the conflict mainly happens off screen. We don't see the "pranks" unfolding; we get the fallout. Because of this, the action felt passive, told in flashback or dialogue, and I think this will hit the mark for many readers who aren't as keen on violence or direct confrontation.

Harding also highlights several key themes that harbor important discussions: illicit drug use, sexuality, consent, among them, and I could see this finding a nice home in several book clubs.

Overall, The Perfect Family is a fast-paced, suspenseful read you won't want to put down. Out in August, add this to your TBR now.
