I really enjoyed Joshua and Kara's story! Watching these two come together to defeat the enemy was such fun!
I love this authors writing style. The story comes alive and the character are always well developed. I wish there was a little more banter between her and Joshua but the intimate scenes were written really well. Joshua was my favorite of the two main leads. I liked how he though through his actions and the potential consequences that came with them. He had the whole touch her and die vibe which was a great trope in this story. Out of the books in this series this was probably my least favorite but it was still fun to learn Joshua's story after reading the other books.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the gifted copy
Wow I'm just stunned with how good this title was. I just had so much fun reading this title and getting to along for the ride with these amazing characters. I'm so excited to see what's next from this author.
Unfortunately this was a DNF for me. I loved the first one and had high hopes for this one. Instead, I was so put off by the opening scenes. I didn't feel the chemistry between the main couple. In fact, it just felt icky to me. It was also missing the great banter that I loved form the first one.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Joshua's story! He changed a lot since the first book, having basically worked as a mercenary on the Orkney Islands. This change in scenery was really neat- I rarely read about this location and enjoyed how descriptive the writing was. Joshua's story also began very differently than Gideon's or Cain's--Kara, our FMA, pursued him from the jump. It is so rare to see a woman free to pursue a man in books set in historical periods that this was highly surprising and enjoyable! Their romance was surprisingly sweet, and I appreciated how their HEA worked out, and since I've already read Gideon's story, I know there's going to be a lot more to learn about Joshua and Kara in Bas's book. Another 5-star read that was very different from the others in the series, and it worked-- now when is the next book coming out, and will their sister Hannah get her own story?
I didn't like Joshua in the first book so I was nervous going into this... but he surprised me and now I love him.
Joshua was raised to believe himself as the Horseman of War sent from God. Weary of waring he plans to head home. Enter Kara Flett. Desperate to save her dying people she catches Joshua before he can set sail... and she will do anything to convince him to fight for them.
I loved seeing two very strong characters slowly become soft for eachother. Their relationship started very quick and physical fast but throughout the novel they gain more affection and love for eachother.
There is a lot of talk of war in this one (obviously) but not simply in a 'conquer everyone' sort of way. For the Horseman of War he learns that sometimes war isn't the right choice.
Received a copy via NetGalley & the Publisher in preparation for the release of the third novel. All opinions are my own.
This was not my favorite in the Sons of Sinclair series. The hero and heroine are interesting characters and the romance scenes are as steamy as I expected. However, I didn’t care for the amount of time the book covered preparing for a battle and the battle itself.
Overall a perfectly steamy novel with interesting characters and excellent setting.
3.5 rounded up
Book 2 of the series. This one has Joshua, the warrior brother, and his romance with Kara, the queen of the people of Orkney. Fighting against the evil uncle of the king of Scotland, they go against Robert Stewart and his evil sons Henry and Patrick. I liked it, and enjoyed the story and characters, although liked book 3 better (Highland Justice). Looking forward to book 4. Highly recommend this book and series.
Really well-written and extremely good story. It has well-developed and interesting characters that are very likable. You will be pulled into the story very quickly and find it hard to put down once you start reading it. It's got some very good action, drama, suspense and very good connection between the hero and heroine. The story will tug at your heart and emotions. It will make you root for the villains to be punished and defeated. It will make you hunger for justice and peace for a clan that has been abused and maligned. I loved the story. It kept me interested right up until the last page. Highly recommended.
What an entertaining read. Every now and then I enjoy a throw back to the Harlequinesqe reads that started by teen love for reading. Thank you grandma for that brown paper bag FULL of romance novels!
Joshua and Kara are strong characters willing to do what Must be done. Their budding relationship is at first funny, sorry, but their "first time" is a bit funny, lol. but comes together nicely. This was well written and enjoyable.
I will definitely look for more from this author.
Set in Orkney 1589
Joshua Sinclair is from Caithness in Scotia. After his mother died in childbirth his father molded his sons after the Four Horsemen. Joshua was raised to be the Horseman of War and has become a renowned, fierce warrior.
Restless and frustrated with his brother Joshua goes out in the world to hire out his sword and train men for battle. His legend has grown but his latest hire has him disgusted with a corrupt lord, and heart sore from the loss of a lad in a previous battle. He plans to return home but a warrior queen has other plans for him.
Kára Flett is a warrior queen, a widow, and mother to a nine-year-old boy. Her people have been starved, enslaved and badly treated by Lord Robert and she will do anything to help her people. Including seducing a renown warrior to train her people and fight for their side.
Prepare for a trip back in time to 1589 Orkney Isles, where the people are fierce and passionate.

I didn't finish the book. NOt because I don't like the story or author but because I didn't like how the female lead was treating such a great warrior. He wanted to get away from fighting and find peace. He runs into her and this to me was great. But then she uses her wiles to lure him in so he will help her people fight. She essentially wants to use him because of who he is. I wasn't okay with that. I wanted him after all his years of fighting and training those to fight to get to have a quiet life. I love this series and him but couldn't get past the main female character.
Definitely an enchanting escape! Loved the sweet build of romance and found the relationship at least believable and not cringey
I absolutely loved this book!! Following the Sinclair men has me hooked and I can't wait for the next book in this series! The story hooked me from the beginning and kept my interest throughout, and the love scenes were HOT! Definitely recommend!!
I came into this story knowing I was coming into it as the second in the series. Its safe to say this can most definitely be read as a stand alone. I would recommend reading the first however due to the fact on why Joshua the lead left his clan to train other clans.
This was a wonderful bundle of historical goodness, the author crafted a world about real history surrounding Robert Stuart and his army. Highland Warrior follows Joshua Sinclair who left his clan after his older brother took over from their father. Joshua was trained as a warrior, war was in his blood, as his father made it be so. When his brother takes over he wants peace, but Joshua is the Horseman of War and he can see the peace that his brother wants. He leaves and trains other men, while eventually training Robert Stuarts men, but training them puts a target on his head at all times. When he sees what his brother wants is now something he wants after the death of a child, he leaves for home.
But he comes face to face with a woman he can't resist, Kara Flett, the daughter of a Norse King. She needs his help and protection and will do anything to get it.
I love reading stories of men who go on to find themselves, Joshua may have acted on immature intentions because of how he was raised, but he became the man he was suppose to be especially after meeting Kara and her people. I applaud the author for really showing growth in a male character, especially an alpha male, I really enjoy reading this. When Kara and Joshua meet its an intense attraction, the knows who he is and does something any desperate woman would do to save those she loves. The romance is passionate, intense and the connection between these two characters grows with every moment together, more so with Kara's son, her son was actually the one who won me over.
In the end this is a great historical romance, lots of suspense and having the reader wonder how will they have their happy ending with all the dangers that keep coming their way. I did have a hard time connecting to Kara, her stubborn nature and how she just didn't listen didn't sit right with me. Overall her character should of been my most liked but I couldn't connect. But that did not take away from the wonderful writing and world building.
If you love Alpha males, you will love the MC Joshua. This is a one click author for me. Love her books. You won’t be disappointed.
Be swept away with this overwhelming story! Gripping and Heart-stopping! Highland Warrior will hold you spellbound as it comes to life with all the drama, intrigue, uncertainties, trauma, and strife on Orkley that will keep you reading to the very end. Heather McCollum has a writing style that I thoroughly enjoy. She has filled this highland romance with characters that come off the pages and will pulled you into this tale, it's beautifully written, with strong plot and great dialogue, and with the most sensuous titillating passionate scenes. The scenes are so vividly detailed it paints an incredibly vivid backdrop that pulls you into the story and makes you feel like you are one with the story. With appearances from characters who you found a special place in your heart for from the previous novel tale the which brings this read together perfectly.
I enjoyed reading Joshua and Kara’s story. It had drama, action, sizzling chemistry and adorable characters. I especially loved how the author developed Joshua’s character from a battle hungry Horseman of War to a more compassionate and vulnerable human. Kara’s character, although stubborn to a fault, was an equally strong character. She had to take leadership of her community because their chief Erik was captured by the evil liege, Lord Robert Stuart, recognized son of the dead King James V of Scotland. There were some particularly humorous moments that I loved. And there were some extra steamy scenes too. Even though this is the second in a series, it can be read as a standalone. I’m looking forward to reading Gideon and Bas’s stories.
This book chronicles a journey of Joshua Sinclair. He was War incarnate, the second Horseman of the Apocalypse, sent from God, to rage and win against his foes. But what did that mean anymore? Joshua went in search for the meaning of his life on earth. Because of his father Joshua read "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu and literally lived by that book. On this journey Joshua began to realize even a deeper meaning to the words in that book and it definitely was distressing and mind boggling to him. And all of this was the result of meeting a woman called "dróttning". Kára was the leader of the local village people who lived under the tyranny of the local earl, Lord Robert Stuart and his evil clones which were his sons Patrick and Henry. When Kára asked Joshua to fight for her people and defeat Robert Stuart Joshua had two minds. Was he still the Warrior of War or was he someone else? Kára used everything she could think of to persuade Joshua. Little did she know the last try hit Joshua hard in his soul. He decided to hear Kára and her people out. They wanted out from under the earl's wicked rule. Which meant they wanted to storm the palace of Lord Henry and kill him and his evil offspring. Joshua thought back on the forces Henry had compared to these desperate villagers and he knew there was no way they could win. Through getting to know Kára romantically and personally he started to rethink his beliefs on tactics and war. He began to understand a deeper meaning to what the words in the book "The Art of War". This new path, new perspective humbled Joshua and brought him greater clarity and wisdom on dealing with conflict and war. He never realized there was more to words than their literal meaning. An excellent story. Do not pass this up. You will not be disappointed.
Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Action-packed
Inspirational
Page-turner
Realistic
Steamy
Unpredictable
Wonderful characters
Highland Warrior by Heather McCollum held some interesting scenes throughout the story. The story started well, however, tapered off a bit that had me wavering from the story a bit.
