Really enjoyed this book, a woman feeling that she is not strong enough to make it on her own proves that you just need to believe in yourself. Don’t know much about boats but this didn’t stop the enjoyment of reading about a sailing world.
BEWARE THE MERMAIDS was a charming and inspiring read! I loved the protagonist, Nancy and her "hens." they were delightful. And Roger makes a very realistic "villain." This book will inspire anyone who feels like they are stuck in a rut, or have lost themselves in parenthood or marriage. Can't wait for Talick's next book.
Reinventing yourself after 37 years, (and after the betrayal of infidelity in a long term marriage) is one hell of a task yet our main protagonist Nancy his a home run in showing up for yourself even in the roughest seas (figuratively and literally). It was a joy being on this female lead adventure. Heartwarming and quick read.
You go Nancy. Roger the husband is a grade a ass. I’m glad that Nancy has friends that help her through this hard time. It’s awful the way her daughter acts throughout the story. I’m glad her granddaughter stuck by her for the ride. Not being a boat person I could picture the race but it was exciting to read about the finishes. I just want to warn you have tissues on hand since there are a few times that tears will be shed.
Just finished Beware the Mermaids on international women’s day and what a read! Nancy is a strong woman who takes her fate into her own hands after catching her husband with another woman on their prized boat. This was a fun and heartwarming read that made me wish I was on a beach somewhere watching the ships sail in!
Nancy is in her late fifties when after 37 years of marriage, she finds her husband with another woman when she's touring some ladies around their magnificent sailboat. The event turns out to be a godsend in disguise, after all. Once the shock starts to fade, she finds the way to start a new chapter in her life. She literally embarks herself and her beloved friends and granddaughter into the most beautiful journey. There will be bumps in the way, but it will be absolutely worth the effort.
I loved this story. About love and disappointment, good friends and true frienship, but most of all, about hope and new opportunities.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
After 37 years of giving up her own dreams to support her husband’s career and raise their daughter, Nancy finds herself on her own and at loose ends in Southern California. With the support of her best friends she leaves her cheating husband and moves into her newly purchased boat on the marina. Roger vows that he will never give her a divorce and warns her to prepare for a major legal battle, setting the stage for a bet of a lifetime. It’s a winner take all sailing race; if Nancy and her friends can beat Roger and his professional crew in the Border dash she wins their beloved boat and a divorce. But sneaky, manipulative Roger will stop at nothing to win.
This book is a great summer read. The characters are vibrant and interesting as is the description of the seaside location. Laugh out loud moments provide a nice balance to the struggles Nancy faces as she starts over. A fun book celebrating friendship, inner strength, and finding happiness at any age.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this advance reader copy.

Roger is not willing to give up without a fight so Nancy makes a bet with Roger to race him at the thrilling Border Dash Race from Newport Harbor down to Ensenada Mexico.

Summary:
Well written, a quick heartwarming read.
This is a great novel telling the journey of a lost woman who finds her way thanks to her wit, her three close friends and granddaughter, and the love of sailing.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wealthy Hermosa Beach housewife Nancy Hadley is no pushover. So when her philandering husband, Roger, is caught in flagrante with an opportunistic widow on their racing yacht, Nancy sticks it to him. She tells him she wants a divorce--with the yacht, Bucephalus, part of the deal, too.
Her husband Roger will not let that happen of course.
