Jennifer Weiner is always an automatic read for me. This one certainly did not disappoint. The mystery kept me engaged, the characters were well flushed out and I loved that there were shades of gray to all of them.
Weiner is a master storyteller and the way she weaves this mystery into a tale of relationships, revenge and asks the questions "can you forgive the unforgiveable?" It made for a wonderful ride!
Wow - I thought this was going to be a light beachy summery read, and it was not. This was a great book about the butterfly effect of ones actions and how you can carry it with you into adulthood
I am such a HUGE Jennifer Weiner fan and will always be. She is my favorite author hands down. I loved all the characters of this book. Daisy is someone who I could seriously relate to and was rooting for. No spoilers, but you don't want to miss this book!
Jennifer Weiner is one of my favorite writers and has been since Good in Bed came out. Her books have always been so timely and relevant. I had mixed feelings about this one - while I think what happened to Diana is something that should be brought to light - because that kind of thing certainly happens, and the repercussions are so far reaching and can affects lives in ways that can't be fathomed - I didn't like how she approached her revenge by using Daisy. It just felt like Diana could have been better than the manipulation of another woman. I did feel deeply for Diana and was heartbroken by the brokenness of her life. I'm glad she and Daisy both did find some resolution and happiness at the end.
A fantastic novel that featured a gripping storyline, and likeable characters with emotional and psychological depth. I was thinking about these characters after I turned the last page. I also appreciated the Cape Cod region references; as someone who lived on Cape Cod, this is especially fun!
I always read Jennifer Weiner whenever I get a copy of any of her books and review them when they come out on the other platforms. I sometimes forget to review them on here. This was a wonderful book by her as always.
This is more of a character driven story, which is not my go to. I found that many parts of the story dragged on which made me become disinterested. It did pick up near the end at least.
There were some very deep and topical themes that were discussed in this book. I felt they were important topics to discuss, but at times it became too heavy. Which of course might be different for everyone- I do strongly recommend to be aware of the content/trigger warnings.
I did find it interesting how this is loosely connected to Big Summer.
It was confusing at many times to keep the characters straight, especially with the names being so close to one another.
Here Jennifer Weiner does what she does best. She creates characters that are multi dimensional that keep you reading late into the night just to see what happens. She also captures Cape Cod perfectly. I can't wait to see what she writes next.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC. I’m glad I did not know what this was about until I got about 1/4 of the way into the book - I don’t think I would have read it otherwise. Sexual assault is not a “beach read” for me, and that is what I was expecting. That being said, you do get vested in the characters and want to see where things go. A solid 3 stars for me.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. Something about the start of this book gave me wicked anxiety and I couldn't finish it. I love Jennifer Weiner books and I'm disappointed I couldn't get through this one, but there may be another time I can pick it up and be just fine.
I enjoyed this book overall, though it felt less "fun" than some of Jennifer Weiner's other books recently. I thought the story was engaging (if not realistic at times).
This was such a slow burn for me... in the best way possible. I connect with Weiner’a characters more than any other author. This story was hard to read. Reading about sexual assault makes me extremely uncomfortable. A very heavy topic during a heavy 18 months. Although a heavy topic, the theme of friendship and the Me Too Movement kept the pages turning for me. Five stars for the characters, the development and the relevant theme. Weiner does it again.
I admittedly read everything written by Jennifer Weiner. I love her style and the way she tells stories. This novel is very different from anything I have read of hers before. Does that mean it isn't equally entertaining? Of course not--it is just different! It still has her pleasurable style, voice and storytelling gifts. I did enjoy this book though I would not particularly call it a "Beach Read." It has themes that focus on a sexual assault and that is just not light and "beachy" enough for me. Nonetheless, it is very good and I do recommend it--just read it at the right time!
This was definitely different for a Jennifer Weiner book. I felt like it wasn't her typical witty, intelligent story. If you like a #MeToo story, this will be for you. I went in a bit blind, and thought this was going to be a light hearted beach beach, but it was not. Not that this should be a turn off to other readers, but it just was not what I was expecting at all. Diana/Daisy wants revenge for something that happened to her as a teen, but the execution of the confrontation was weird and not very believable. The end redeemed it a bit for me, but overall I was a bit disappointed because I usually adore JW's books. Unfortunately, this is not one I am likely to recommend.
This was fiiiiine. Very much in the me too vane of storytelling. The storyline was a bit lackluster and the main character was a bit meek and whiny.
As always, a fantastic read from this author! Thank you fir the opportunity to read another book! I can’t wait to hear about what’s coming next.
There is a lot to unpack here. The tale of two Dianas, who live safe intertwined without their knowledge. An unlikely friendship forms while one is seeking healing from trauma and the other is living blissfully unaware. I spent a decent chunk of part 1 confused and it wasn't until partially into part two that i understood the separate storylines.
Thank you NetGalley for this Arc.
Wow! This book was nothing like I imagined it would be. To be honest I had tried reading it a couple of times and kept putting it down. Well I was stuck on the runway for a few hours yesterday and decided to give it one more try and man am I glad I did. Another fantastic read from Jennifer Weiner, what you think is another book about a bored housewife having a mid life crisis turns into something completely different. I absolutely adored the story of our two main characters Dianna and Daisy and loved how their stories were interwoven before finally realising just what they had in common. An excellent summer read which makes you think and leaves you breathless long after the final page. 10/10
I have read some JenniferWeiner books I enjoyed, but this was not one of them. The story is too convoluted and unrealistic. Diana clearly needed/needs therapy. She’s over the edge. Not to excuse the rape on any level. Daisy is like a housewife out of 1952. Not relatable. Bea was the most realistic character. Topic has merit but poor execution.
This book surprised me a lot. I did not expect to like it as much as I did, The beginning is muddled a bit, and I really did not care for any of the characters at first. But as the plot was revealed, I was hooked. The characters are beautifully flawed, and once it got going, the story really kept me reading. I adored the descriptions of food in the novel, it made me hungry. I’ve read many of Ms. Weiner’s novels, and this one might be my favorite.
Oh and it’s timely also.
