I was so sad with how much King of Scars left me feeling disappointed. I had longed for a Nikolai series for years. Unfortunately it didn’t remotely deliver.
But I had been holding out hope that Rule of Wolves would be better, so I do have to thank the publisher for offering a sampler of it.
It is again unfortunate that I am left disappointed once again (and in only three chapters). I really don’t feel like this was enough to hook me to care about the rest of the book.
What a bummer.

Leigh Bardugo's writing...it's impeccable. She's so insanely good at world-building and every time I read one of her books, I always find myself completely lost in the world she created. Rule of Wolves is no exception to this. Every sentence completely draws you in. Bardugo writes her characters exceptionally well and you can't help but fall in love with them even more. This was me after reading the chapter with Nina and Nikolai. And the little Nikolai and Zoya moments...I really appreciate those. Zoya is, quite literally, my queen and I bow before her. She's one of my favorite Grishaverse characters and deserves a lot of appreciation. I'm very excited for this book and I cannot wait for the day I get my hands on it!

I am definitely ready for this book.
SPOILERS for BOOK One
I cannot believe that the Darkling has come back !!!
Thank you Macmillan Children's Publishing Group and Netgalley for a sample of this upcoming book to provide my sassy thoughts.

So I've never previously read a Leigh Bardugo Grishaverse book..I know who hasn't, right?!..
Me that's who. I actually have the uk collector's Edition's hardcovers of all of them to date (because they are gorgeous) but hadn't gotten to them yet. Now here comes another one - Rule of Wolves, book #2 of King of Scars. And of course the uk hardcovers coming out are just as gorgeous as the rest so I'll need to get that next month at the release. A sampler ARC of Rule of Wolves magically appears on my shelf so I figure I should probably see what this is all about even though it's a 9th book in the Grishaverse and who the heck starts a series by reading bits of the last book released?!
Me apparently.. Yes I seriously did & now I get it.
Rule of Wolves starts with Queen Makhi (she's a bad b****, and I already love her!). Just from reading about her in the first chapter she's probably the Evil queen we all really love. Because who's plotting the death of their sweet kind sister that everyone loves?!.
Queen Mahki does 😈 👏🥰. Then something happens & we get a glimpse she's also a caring queen. Love her, need more of her, maybe her own book someday?! Yes I got all that want already from one chapter about her 🖤.
Next we get Nina's chapter. I know she's a main character in the series and a Grisha (which have powers, I think?). I can see she's not one to play with and is highly dangerous, a good side & bad side but I didn't get enough feel of her yet.
Then Nikolai finishes up the last chapter of the sampler. I'm pretty sure he's the king of scars the previous book is named for. He appears decent as a king but has a inner evil that probably was disclosed in the king of scars book. So he'll likely be one of my favorites as well 🤔🖤. Here's what I get overall from this sampler of Rule of Wolves. I see what all the hype is about with the series and characters and Leigh Bardugo. Only three chapters and yet Leigh started it out with high quality characters, jumping me right into the world I have no previous knowledge of. War, magic, power, good, evil, darkness, gods, and fantasy! Yes please 😲❤️😃. These first few chapters have hooked me in. Her writing style was not boring at all and that's a biggie for me. I know it will be good when it comes right out with a powerful opening.
I absolutely hate when reading up to 100 pages of boring slowness before anything starts happening in a book and that is generally a tell for me that I won't be rating it highly. I want some inkling of action, intrigue by 50 pages at least.
Well guess what People? Leigh Bardugo brings it right at the beginning in Rule of Wolves!!👏👏. If you're like me and never read one of the Grishaverse yet, You need to give it a go, you might just love it too.
Thank you, Thank you Very Much. Yes you may continue to take my Money 💰🤑 for your beautiful books. Now I have been introduced
and must begin reading the series from the first book before netflix starts S&B in April.
Thank you to Leigh Bardugo, Macmillan publishing, fiercereads.com, and NetGalley for allowing me a peak into the Rule of Wolves story for my honest opinion in exchange for this ARC sampler.

Leigh Bardugo has done it again! Rule of Wolves seems like it will be a stunning (and shocking) conclusion to the fantastical Grishaverse.
The first chapter starts off with a new, ruthless character named Makhi Kir-Taban, immediately dropping the readers back into the story of King of Scars. It seems like Queen Maki will play an interesting and crucial role in this sequel. The following 2 chapters bring us back to well-loved characters, Nina and Nikolai. As always, Leigh Bardugo’s writing is impeccable and descriptive.
The excerpt teases an amazing return to the beloved Grishaverse—I’m eagerly anticipating the Rule of Wolves release!
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Children's Publishing Group for this e-arc sampler of Rule of Wolves in exchange for an honest review.

I am really excited to read this,
I have it pre-ordered.
Having Leigh write another series on Nikolai was honestly a dream. I can't wait to see how this all goes down.
Unfortunately Goodreads doesn't have a slot for me to review the sampler publicly so this will have to do.
3 chapters wasn't enough.

This sampler was everything I needed to get me ready for Rules of Wolves. I've been dying to know what happens next since the end of King of Scars, and the few chapters I read promise to deliver an excellent story. Leigh Bardugo's writing is as smooth and as enchanting as ever, and I was super bummed when I reached the end of the sampler. All that's left to do is wait for March 30th. It can't come soon enough!

I couldn't get enough of this story. I need the whole story. What great characters. Plot. Stakes. Can't wait for the rest of it.

This sampler was amazing and just makes me want to read the entire story that much more. To say I’m excited for this book to release is an understatement.

The Grishaverse is one of the best YA fantasy worlds out there, and the chapters in this sampler serve as an immersive return to the magic, political intrigue, and strong characters that define Bardugo's writing. I could not be more excited to read the full book next month!

WOAH.
i am so excited for this second installment in the nikolai duology!!! i will take any crumbs the queen leigh bardugo writes for the grishaverse (and outside, honestly) and i’ll thank her for it!
this sneak peek only makes me even more excited to read the final complete copy. so thrilled to see where nikolai, zoya and nina end up by the final page. cannot wait!!!

Rule of Wolves - SAMPLER!
by Leigh Bardugo
Intriguing start would like to finish the story. I find the development of the first three chapters something to begin on. The chapters have a lot of references to the prior book, that i think will lesson as the story goes on

This is an excerpt from Rule of Wolves the new book from Leigh Bardugo - follow-up to King of Scars. We get Queen Makhi who is angry her plan didn't work. Our old friend Nina from Six of Crows and King Nikolai (who has a passenger problem) The Darkling is back. Nice setup from Bardugo. Back into Ravka quickly. Looking forward to this new book.

Our Library will be purchasing as our students love this Author. Would recommend for middle and high school students.

this sampler of Rule of Wolves was so good. I am so excited to see where this book takes us with Nikolai, Zoya, Nina, etc. I think this series has really taken on an interesting plot and I cannot wait for the release in march! I think Zoya is a very well developed and complex character, while also being a very good match to the difference in personality that Nikolai shows.

I'm a fan of Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows series and never read the Shadow and Bone books...but this sample makes me want to start.

A promising beginning for the final book in this universe - a decent recap of prior events, name-drops of former beloved characters, and a plot already heavily set in motion with our protagonists' goals laid out right away. I have a very good feeling I'm going to enjoy this final chapter in the Grishaverse. I'm especially optimistic for Nina's growth past what we saw of her in King of Scars, as well as the aggravating ship-tease between Nikolai and Zoya among all of the other conflicts they are bound to face. These three chapters have me 100% on board for picking up this book as soon as possible.

This short sample made me very excited for Rule of Wolves! I enjoy Leigh Bardugo’s writing and I think this book will be another win. Excited to read the rest of it!

I absolutely Need this book! Like always I fell right away in love with Bardugo's writing style and characters and zia can't wait to read this book! The sampler only made me realize Rule of wolves is gonna be AMAZING!

Once again, I am blown away by the ah-mazing Queen Bardugo! So much yes!! I'm on pins and needles for the rest!! This is my favorite universe!
