This sampler made me so excited to continue my journey with the Grishaverse. The Six of Crows duology still holds up the highest among the Grishaverse books, but I'm anticipating RoW which is supposed to be the finale to the greater universe Leigh has built.

I am actually really kind of bummed. I hate to say that because the Grishaverse is such a fascinating, fantastic, well-woven series of stories, and the characters are some of my favorites ever, but this ending just fell flat for me. I wanted more for the characters; I wanted less convenience. There was deus ex machina, which I loathe, and is usually a pretty predictable move, which is in itself unexpected from Bardugo.

The thing with the Darkling was weird, and Zoya didn't get the moment we all needed after giving in to the dragon. Alina felt unnecessary and ineffective (was that the point?).
I dunno. This one just didn't have the depth the other books had. I felt so *keenly* for Nikolai in King of Scars, and I liked him in this story...but it was like watching everyone through a blurry window.
I'm not posting this on Goodreads because it feels mean, and I would never want Leigh Bardugo to even potentially accidentally see it. I'm only reviewing because NetGalley granted me a copy and I'm behind on reviews and I owe them this.

Almost a solid 5 stars! So much intrigue and further looks into the worlds of characters we’ve come to love so much. Leigh has crafted a brilliant world, and it’s so awesome to see this next chapter.

Even starting out I liked this one way better that long of scars. And the cover isn't that horrendous yellowy gold

I received a sampler (first three chapters) of Rule of Wolves by Leigh Bardugo thanks to the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review:
I absolutely love Leigh Bardugo and her writing/world-crafting. Rule of Wolves lives up to all my expectations. Prior to reading the sampler, I reread all the prior Grishaverse books and this flows perfectly with them. I will absolutely be continuing with the story and finding out what else is in store for Nina, Nikolai, and Zoya (as well as everyone else!).

Another epic installment to the grishaverse!!
Anyone who’s read the previous books knows the bar has been set high! Yet again Bardugo does not disappoint. We see many of our faves, Nina, Zoya, Nikolai and Kaz in this brilliant installment!
I can’t wait for more and hope we are not yet done with this worldscape!!

I personally loved that these books haven't just been about Nikolai and I think I might be the last person who's not mad about the fact that this series focus a lot on Zoya. I did however, get lost amongst the weeds when it came to Nina's story. It isn't exactly parallel to Nikolai and Zoya's, and i even think it would've made a nice novella to have as opposed to interjecting itself into this story.

A wonderful conclusion to the multiple series. Witty, fun, suspenseful and clever. I will recommend to the teens in my library and hope the Netflix series continues long enough to include this installment of the story.

I’m looking forward to reading the full novel. This sample included the first three chapters of the novel. It seems that the action is starting off quickly. There is enough detail that I can easily tell where we left off, but not so much that it seems repetitive or unnecessary.

Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group for providing a sample eARC for review.

“i'll tell you a thousand stories, my love. we’ll write the new endings, one by one.”

good morning to the twitter user that called this book grishaverse: endgame and them ONLY.

i think it's clear by now that leigh bardugo is at her best when she's writing political intrigue and secrets on plots on schemes, so it's a pretty good thing this book is full of those. there were a few moments that made me roll my eyes and cringe through the couch cushions, some plot points i felt were just kind of there for no good reason. that's probably the trouble with writing the seventh book in the same world- at some point it's just about outdoing yourself, you start borrowing your own words, and they steer you away from what could have been.

maybe my thoughts will change in time, when i'm due for a reread, but right now a 3/5 seems just right, especially given how much my heart is racing from what i hope the last chapter is setting up.

This is Leigh Bardugo I feel thats all I need to say to express how good it is. While this is only a sample it is amazing. She is a queen of fantasy and world building. Cannot wait to read the full book.

I see Bardugo. I read Bardugo. This author has my heart and soul, and anything about Prince Nikolai will be on my mind forever.

What an ending! I adore all the powerful women Bardugo has given us and man does she make them shine. I didn’t see a lot of this coming even though I should have. All the clues were there.

There was a part in this book that ripped my heart apart more than I expected but no spoilers! So just go read it. But oh heavens, hit me hard. I had to stop reading because it was so overwhelming.

This was a perfect ending to the Grishaverse. This series has totally been worth the read.

Leigh Bardugo once again exceeds expectations for a trip into the Grishaverse. With the conclusion of the King of Scars duology, we're greeted with a cast of characters from her earlier two series set in the same world. Elements and characters from earlier story lines come together to round out an exciting story of dark magic, evils of greed, daring heists, and doing what is needed for the love of friends and country.

I absolutely recommend all of the Grisha series by Bardugo. She is an excellent story teller and world builder, with a unique magic system and representation of POC, LGBTQIA+, and disabled characters.

I received a preview of this book and went on to read the rest. I absolutely loved this book. There is nothing more that I enjoy than a full circle ending and this book perfectly ended the Grishaverse altogether.

Spring 2020 (April);

'The Continuing Saga of Amanda Read All 9 Grishaverse Books in 26 Days'
(This review will span King of Scars & Rule of Wolves.)

This is for the last two books (for now) of the Grishaverse. I really, really, madly adored getting to shift back to the more centralized/original part of this universe. I liked getting back to what was happening to this country post-war, how things were shifting and being reset up. Since the whispers of it are so tiny and barely there in Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom.

I'm still processing my feelings re: Nina just basically gets paired up with another character immediately, as though these characters can't be single & anyone who is must be questioned as to why they haven't settled down yet. Brum's Daughter's storyline with gender fluidity and selfhood, though, was aces. I'm shrug-worthily okay with the main couple, no big love or loss in it, or in Zoya's new powers.

The thing that bugs me most about Zoya's new powers isn't the highest whine going about the internets about it and her deserving/not deserving this power, BUT that she's taught this power with the note that every Grisha used to access their powers like this / how they've all been diminished by this loss AND THEN SHE NEVER TEACHES ANYONE ELSE ABOUT IT.

Allllsssso, dang, but I super appreciated Bardugo coming out the gate hard on how much The Darkling really was the bad guy and no one has any sympathy for him really. That he only asks for Alina & Mal so that he can steal their blood/power from them again, and that every single one of the girls in the set (Alina, Genya, Zoya) want this man gone, gone, gone forever.

I was so pleased getting just a little more Alina & Mal, Jesper & Wylan, Kaz. I'm sad we never got our Pirate Queen. I'm really happy there's a scene just for Genya, Zoya, and Alina hanging out at the end, talking about how not-to-become-the-bad-guy eventually, because I like that it shows forethought about what choices were made and what their domino choices from there will make of them, too.

Such a brilliant and exciting beginning to this title! I can't wait to continue reading and see what happens in this latest installment of the Grishaverse. As always, Leigh Bardugo nails the beginnings of her books!
