Firstly loved the cover and the title, WOW! What a rollercoaster ride this book was!... Totally gripped from the beginning… It has all the feels!! I believe this is the first book by this author and I’ll be on the lookout for what Stephanie brings out next! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to #NetGalley, #HQStories, and author #StephanieDeCarolis for the ARC of #TheGuiltyHusband.
I was hooked from the first page! It took me just a little over 24 hours to finish this one and with good reason. The story never gets old. Man takes a wife, they fall into a stale routine, husband takes a mistress, then someone gets murdered.
Vince and Nicole are happily married, or so it seemed, but if that's true, then who is Layla?
The solution for a problem as big as Vince and Nicole's may not exist. Have they gone too far?
It would seem that's the case when Vince is accused in the media and ends up arrested. He no longer knows who to trust. He's not even sure he can trust his childhood best friend, not to mention he is also Vince's attorney.
The twisty, wriggling turns this story gave me, page after page, was the absolute best way to spend a lazy day at the beach. I can't wait to recommend this one.
As always the opinions above are mine and mine alone. When you decide YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK, it will be available from your favorite retailer on 3/19/21.
I started off enjoying this book but by the middle and certainly at the end, I was bored. The thinly disguised Facebook office made the story even more unrealistic, the characters were unlikeable, the facile use of the ineptitude of the police and the general lack of attention to detail made the story a relief to finish - even though the denouement was no surprise.
Loved this book so much! The characters really made me enticed to continue reading it there were also characters I couldn’t stand. You win some and lose some! Twists upon twists were thrown at me throughout this book!
I really enjoy books that are descriptive and draw me into the story. This book does that on the first page.
I really enjoy books that are descriptive and draw me into the story. This book does that on the first page. "The Guilty Husband" is a typical story of a successful man that ultimately has everything he has ever wanted and takes that fateful step by having an affair. However, things aren't as they seem which makes this book all the more interesting. I suspected early on who the did the deed but I didn't see all the twists and turns that were thrown into the story to get you to look in a different direction or the surprising end of the story.
This was a good fast read on a rainy day. I look forward to more from this author.
I really enjoyed this and can't believe it is from a first time author.. It was an interesting and quick read with the suspects forever changing.
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
I enjoyed this easy-to-read book. Although there are holes in the plot, quite a lot of them, it still makes for an entertaining read. I did find it intriguing enough to carry on reading onto the end very quickly, so it was definitely absorbing.
The guilty husband is such a good read, it’s the first by this author and certainly look forward to reading more in the future. Throughout this book I was gripped by the characters, the plot and well just everything about it. This is a must read for those who enjoy quick and easy storylines that keep you guessing throughout. Thankyou NetGalley for my ARC In exchange for an honest review
Loved every twist and turn! It was hard to believe this was a debut. Well written and well thought out.
Loved, loved, loved every twisty turn, thrilling thrill, chilling chill, and fado worthy shock! Well Written, with amazing character development, plot and storyline strong and unique! Fast paced, tense, captivating, and unputdownable! Highly, highly recommend!
I will buzz around and use low Amazon reviewer number on release date!
Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Vince Taylor has a great life as the wealthy CEO of a tech company and happily married to Nicole. But one day the police show up to question him about the murder of an intern at his company and he winds up telling quite a few lies to avoid appearing guilty of her murder.
I liked this book and I read it in about a day. There was nothing new here and I sniffed out who the killer was fairly early on but I still enjoyed it. It was a quick read with new info being turned up often, so I didn't get bored. I would read more from this author.
2.5 stars rounded up to a very generous 3.
if you've read any other mystery/thriller books - even one - you probably do not need to read this one. From the unbelievably- and I mean that sincerely- shoddy detective work, predictable twist, and decisions no real person would ever make, there are few realistic plot lines in this book.
In the age of social media, there is no way our murder victim - one Layla Bosch, intern extraordinaire- could have gotten away with the things she did. Not at a billion- dollar social media company, thinly veiled as Facebook-meets-Snapchat, and not in any other part of her life either.
The plot line, had it been executed differently- a lot more detailed, perhaps a techy sidekick for Layla - has potential. The detectives were by far my favorite characters until their work became so sloppy - give them some more brainpower and you may have some substance.
I love surprises and this novel just didn't provide any for someone a bit more seasoned in the genre.
Thank you Netgalley for the preview!
A Mark Zuckerberg type figure is having an affair with a stunningly attractive intern of his. The intern is murdered in the middle of Central Park New York yet miraculously there are no witnesses. There’s one obvious suspect though.
You need to suspend disbelief and tolerate a fair few cliched descriptions of the main characters. The way the storyteller switches from character to character is also a bit clunky at times. But this is a good read with plenty of good twists and keeps you hooked in classic whodunnit fashion. Worth a read.
Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for a fair review.
I can't quite believe this is a debut novel! I like suspense in my thrilers and this was full of it, with some additional red herrings.
Vince and Nicole are trying to conceive which is making things in the marriage quite tense, while they are trying to navigate conception and stress the attractive new intern at Vince's company is found dead. Worse still Vince was having an affair with her.
I thought several times I had worked it out, but no. Kept me guessing.
Brilliant
Goodreads Review: 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. This was a fabulous debut novel! I had a hard time putting it down and finished it in just two days. It was very suspenseful and I kept thinking I knew who killed Layla but then the author would throw in another twist and I would second guess my predictions. I did finally figure out who the killer was but not before changing my mind about 3 times. I don’t want to talk too much about the story because I don’t want to spoil anything...it’s best to go into this one with just the basic description of the book. I will end with saying that this was a great debut novel and I will absolutely look for future books by this author.

Thank you for this incredible ARC!
This book was wow, it was not at all what I expected and from the moment I started reading it immediately sucked me in! This book was so worth the read and would highly recommend it to anyone.
The characters were all somewhat likeable and it was so hard to pinpoint who was actually guilty, cheating, lies and babies in the mix never turns out as pretty as you would expect!
Easy 5 stars!!
The Guilty Husband by Stephanie DeCarolis
Vince has everything he could dream of; he's the CEO of a tech firm in New York City, owns a beautiful home, and most importantly, he is married to Nicole, the woman who stole his heart the first moment he set eyes on her. Together they have built the perfect life.
But when Layla, a stunning young intern at Vince's company, is found dead, a secret threatens to tear their perfect world apart…
This story is chronicled by Vince, Layla, Nicole and Allison.
Vince and Nicole are trying to get pregnant; the pressure of this is creating tension within their marriage.
Vince has an affair with Layla, and when she is found murdered, Vince immediately comes under suspicion.
Detective Allison Barnes is heading her first investigation and is leaving no stone unturned.
Vince and Layla both have secrets, and as the case gathers pace, their stories emerge.
Did Vince murder Layla? Will Nicole ever be able to forgive Vince's indiscretions? If Vince is innocent, who is trying to bring him down?
This Debut is not new in concept, and I did feel a sense of Deja Vue but saying that it is a well put together domestic drama, easy to read, clear and straightforward.
I want to thank NetGalley, HQ and author Stephanie DeCarolis for a pre-publication copy to review.
This was a very good weekend read. Vince Taylor has admitted to having an affair with the new intern, Layla but he vehemently denies having killed her. Someone has gone to great lengths to make him look very guilty, but who? This book kept my interest from beginning to end.
Thank you to both #NetGalley and HQ Digital for providing me with an advance copy of Stephanie DeCarolis’s debut novel, The Guilty Husband, in exchange for an honest review.
#TheGuiltyHusband is billed as a mystery and suspense read. How this book got published, however, may be the better mystery of the two. Think of the blandest oatmeal you have ever eaten and you have essentially read this book. I normally only reserve one-star ratings for novels I absolutely loathe, but there truly is nothing redeeming here. Both the writing and story are duller than cardboard.
The novel is written in the first person, alternating between several characters (though for the majority of the novel it is only two) as well as between the past and present. I typically enjoy stories that are told from the perspective of multiple characters, but if you use the first person, then you need to craft actual characters or at least write in a way that the reader can distinguish between them. Apologies, but Detective Barnes and Vince could easily be the same person and I would have no clue had it not been for the chapter headings.
Again, the dreaded “show, don’t tell” rule applies heavily here. In fact, the writing seems to be competing for first place in a contest where “telling” has become a new form of art. This would also help the characters go from 2D to 3D, which would avoid the distinction issue.
Therefore, if you enjoy reading sentences such as this fabricated example, “I received the report. I walked to my boss’s office. We discussed the report. I rolled my eyes and went home,” then I guess you should read this novel—but we will never be friends; mostly, because watching paint dry was more alluring than having to struggle through this snooze-festival to review it.
