This was such a great, inspiring read that will help you live a better life. There is practical advice throughout the pages. I am going to have to read this book again and refer to it frequently. Although each chapter is short, there are questions at the end of each one in order to help you evaluate what was written. A great, inspiring reference book.
DeVon Franklin is an extraordinary writer.
He gleams when discussing the unrealistic expectations that thwarts people from living mentally healthy full lives. He dives into the common expectations that people have for others that is beyond the other person’s capacity or awareness. I found this topic very important because it releases not only the expectations, but the anger or disappointment that may follow if those expectations are not met. Early in the book, Franklin acknowledges the necessity of determining the reasoning behind ones actions. By revealing the reason for one’s actions, it helps one to understand their own thought process, traumas, or expectations set by others. At the end of each chapter Franklin provides questions that helps the reader self-reflect his or her choices and thought processes. Overall, this is a well written book, but I would have liked for Franklin to have discussed necessary expectations in regards to character and values early. However, I understand the books progression from deconstruction to reconstruction.
