As always, thanks to Kensington Books, NetGalley & Vicki Delany for the chance to preread Murder in Teacup in exchange for an honest review.
The second book in this new series & it was nice to catch up with Lily, Rose, Bernie & the guys to see where they are now. Repetition over the history behind why they are on the Cape, as well as the Tea Room & B&B's history, but I'm hoping as the books progress, this will die down. Lily has had the tea room open for 6 months, therefore she won't always be saying how "new" they are, nor that it is her "first season". Clearly both the tea room & b&b are doing well, financial difficulties shouldn't be lurking.
The murder is well executed, not until the end is is discovered who "did it". Hopefully Bernie will make a bit more progress on her never ending book & the stories in the series will continue. A good "cozy" mystery to enjoy.
Vicki Delany continues her A Tea by the Sea Mystery series with a spectacular offering in 'Murder in a Teacup'. Each of the characters was so deftly drawn I felt as if I knew them. The twists and turns had me going in a totally wrong direction so that I was truly surprised by the ending. This book had it all, including a lovely hint of romance. I highly recommend it, and any of Vicki Delany's works.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Love this series, and this second book was just as enjoyable as the first.
Rose owns a B and B on Cape Cod, and her granddaughter, Lily, owns a tearoom on the property. Rose is excited to have her friend, Sandra, come to stay along with Sandra's family. They are a very eclectic bunch, with some friction amongst them. When one of the family is found dead in the tearoom, lots of truths and secrets come out. It is up to Rose, Lily, and Bernie to uncover what truly happened, of course without getting killed in the process.
Great characters with fun banter. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Murder in a Teacup is the second installment of the Tea by the Sea mystery series and set in Cape Cod and a at a bed and breakfast owned by a grandmother, Rose, and a granddaughter, Lily. When Rose’s lifelong friend from Iowa comes to visit with her extended family and one of the party turns up murdered, Lily, Rose and their friend, Bernie, are on the case.
I have read both installments of this series and have liked both mysteries. I really liked this one and found myself guessing who the killer was until the murderer was revealed. This was a fun and fast read set in a great place with fun, likable characters. I really enjoyed this mystery and look forward to seeing what else is in store for this series.
The second book in the series, Murder in a Teacup, was fabulous. Easily becoming one of my favorite series. I like that the main character makes sound decisions, and leaves the crazy ideas and actions to her two side kicks (her best friend and grandmother). This was a good mystery and the family secrets and bickering of the guests/suspects was entertaining. I like the slow progress of the side romances - leaves the fun to the mystery and friendships/bonds. I like the change of having one detective being friendly and helpful; usually the cozy mysteries always have the cops completely rude. Though, the head detective does still fill that role. Still, there is one detective who doesn't completely discourage sharing and taking tips from amateur detectives. Looking forward to the next in the series.
This is the second book of this series. I did like it better than the first one. I enjoy the Tea Shop and BnB being located on Cape Cod. I like Lily and think she got a little stronger as far as not letting people boss her around as much as in the first book. I don’t like the fact that Lily and her grandmother Rose have a secret place in the BnB where they can listen to private conversations. That is just rude.
I also get tired of the main characters making fun of one of the police officers. It really isn’t necessary. Both Lily’s friend Bernie and Rose have no problem invading Lily’s kitchen at her tea shop when she is trying to bake. It’s almost like they feel it’s their right to do that. Rose’s portrayal of a frail elderly person, when she wants to get her way, has become old. Bernie, still rewriting her book with every new idea is annoying. I do like Simon the gardener. I did guess who the murderer was, very early in the book. Usually that doesn’t happen with myself.
There is enough though, that I enjoyed, to read the next one.

I enjoyed the first book in this series so I was looking forward to this one. I do enjoy the main character Lily and her friends Bernie and Simon. Rose, her grandmother is hard to figure out. I didn't care for the family feud, unpleasantness that the guests brought to the B&B. I felt like the culprit was rather obvious and had suspicions right from the first and that detracts a bit from the story. I am willing to give a sequel a try/
This is the second book in Vicki Delany's Tea by the Sea series that takes place in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. To begin with, I love this series based on the theme alone. Nothing makes me happier than drinking a nice hot black tea and relaxing by the water, listening to the sound of sea gulls. Lily helps her grandmother Rose run a B&B as well as running her own teashop. Rose has an old friend, Sandra, coming to visit who is bringing her extended family with her. It turns out that this is a very dysfunctional family with lots of issues who do not get along, and they bring all of their drama on their trip. When one of them dies from drinking poisoned tea, the tearoom is closed for the investigation.. With the tearoom's reputation at stake, Lily decides to investigate the crime herself. I enjoyed the mystery, I enjoyed the setting, and I enjoyed the recipes. Good fun.
Lily's grandmother Rose is looking forward to seeing her old friend Sandra McHenry and family staying at her bed and breakfast. Sandra's granddaughter Heather is footing the bill - she inherited the money from her husband Norman French. When Heather's brother-in- law Ed and his wife show up. members of the family are not pleased. The McHenry and the French family have a contentious relationship. Ed is poisoned while enjoying a meal at Lily's tearoom with his wife and the McHenry family. For the sake of the tearoom's survival, Lily looks into the relationships between the McHenry and French families to uncover who murdered Ed.
This is book 2 in the Tea by the Sea Mystery series and after reading and liking the first book, I couldn’t wait to start reading this one! Lily’s tea room and her grandmother’s B&B turns into high drama when a family reunion turns deadly. Lily and co. look into the murder since it appears to be poison by tea.
I didn’t end up liking this one quite as much as the first book, mostly because I could guess the whodunit fairly easily and I tend to think cozies are a little better story when the culprit isn’t quite so obvious. However, I really like Lily and the rest of the characters and I liked the Cape Cod atmosphere and I enjoyed the actual storyline. I think Vicki Delaney’s other books/series are great, including the one written as Eva Gates, and I think she’s a good writer who creates interesting characters so I’m definitely going to be reading book 3 in this one when it comes out.
I dove into the series here instead of starting with the first! It's not difficult to figure out what's going on in the tea room, and the setting of the historic inn on the Massachusetts seaside is well described. It definitely meant I was ready to hop over and visit for a week! Tea rooms and old inns are a weakness of mine.
I didn't care for the overblown drama of the family who's going to lose a member to the murder. It worked to make plenty of suspects, but it wasn't pleasant to read their shrill feuds on the page. I had to skim over some of it until finally getting to the murder at 35% in. After that the crime-solving got more interesting. Yes, some was a little bit of a stretch for believability, but I still enjoyed the puzzle of solving the crime. I'll definitely be reading others from this series.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.
Lily has come to help her grandmother get her coastal bed and breakfast onto a profitable basis, cooking breakfast and opening a tea room on the property. Unfortunately, a customer dies after having tea and the family members present are all suspects. A very enjoyable series that I highly recommend.
I enjoyed this book. The characters are good and the mystery is interesting. I was definitely surprised by who the bad guys were. #MurderinaTeacup #NetGalley

I really liked this book! Great cast of characters old and new. The author is able to introduce a large number of characters and create an individual identity for all of them. The plot was new and fresh.
Tea-By-The-Sea Series is becoming one of my favorites. This is the second book and it doesn’t disappoint! Rose has a close friend come into town with their drama filled family. When a member of the group is murdered Lily has no choice but to help Rose and Bernie to discover the killer.
I love the setting, characters and adventures in this series!

Murder in a Tea Cup, by Vicki Delany, is the second in the Tea-By-The-Sea mystery series. Set in Cap Cod, Lily's charming tea room is the scene of a disastrous family reunion fight that bleeds over to Grandma Rose's B&B. Yes, stormy weather, bickering relatives and a late night murder! Then the hunt begins for the murderer---beginning with the tea room.
Lily is as terrific as she was in the first book, her grandmother, Rose is wonderful--as are the secondary characters. Rose's friend Sandra was not very likable, nor were the rest of the characters involved in the family feud. The twisted path to the guilty party was littered with clues and red herrings--- and it was fun to discover their identity. A good read.
I requested and received a free e-book copy from Kensington Books via #MurderinaTeaCup#NetGalley. Thank you! I review books I enjoy so that others can also find& enjoy them.
Murder in a Teacup is the second installment in the Tea by the Sea mystery series set on Cape Cod, MA and featuring teashop owner Lily Roberts. Lily's grandmother Rose is looking forward to having an old friend from Grand Lake, Iowa come to stay at the B&B. Sandra McHenry is arriving along with her son and his wife, her grandson and his wife, her two great grandchildren and her granddaughter Heather French.
Heather is a young and wealthy widow. She'd married Norman French, a man decades her Senior much to the dismay of her family, and moved away to New York City. Norman's start up company hit it big, he became rich and then died in a hit and run accident. Heather has also invited Norman's estranged brother Ed and his wife to join the group at the B&B. It quickly becomes apparent that there are no warm and fuzzy feelings between these people instead they are all focused on spending Heather's money. When a member of the family drops dead after afternoon tea, it seems that one of them is also a killer.
Lily must team up with best friend Bernie, Rose, Detective Redmond and Simon to "steep" out the murderer before her tea shop and the B&B go under. A fast paced plot with the return of well developed characters, makes for a delightful addition to the series.
I received an advanced copy of Murder in a Teacup from NetGalley via Kensington Publishing. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
Sorry to say that I did not like this novel as much as I loved the first novel in this series.
The only characters that I loved was the grandmother and the granddaughter who run the bed and breakfast / tea rooms. I liked the supporting characters, including the visiting British gardener.
However, I did Not like Sandra nor her dysfunctional family.
It was too easy to guess who the killer was despite the abundance of suspects.
The grandmother invites her friend Sandra and her granddaughter Heather to visit, thinking there will be few guests. At the last minute, there are children and inlaws in that family showing up at the Bed and Breakfast. Not only that. There is also a couple whom Sandra greatly dislikes and Heather is the only person who shows them kindness.
A charming series around a tea shop/B&B in Cape Cod, In this second installment poison is a guest along with friends of the family. well written, drawing you into the characters and the mystery. Looking forward to more in this series.
