Yolanda Richardson is finally embarking on her career in fashion design and is set to launch her boutique when a late night in the office leads Yolanda to fall victim of an unfortunate set of circumstances. In fear, she runs away to her safe haven, her family in SC. There, her father enlists the help of an associate, Charles Morris, a former military serviceman turned private security. Both Charles and Yolanda are reluctant about this arrangement for their separate personal reasons. However, as they go through the turmoil to protect Yolanda and bring the criminals to justice, other lines between Charles and Yolanda become blurred.
In this installment, we explore 1 of 4 sisters, Yolanda, the feisty entrepreneur. Interwoven are the individual relationships each sister has with the others. This book gave all the feels of the inner struggles that both Charles and Yolanda had to bear to come to terms with the life-threatening situation at hand, and later their love for each other. We enjoyed seeing them peel back the layers.
The writing was superb, the love scenes, and family drama were fantastic. The only tidbit that left us a bit underwhelmed was the action in the end. We thought there be more intensity and conflict to drive it home. Overall, the author delivered a stellar romantic novel that left our hearts fawning over Charles and Yolanda.
Thank you NetGalley for this book and we are voluntarily leaving an honest review.
When I think of romance, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the feels and satisfies every romance junkies' heart. This is a perfect books to snuggle up with on any day. While not my ultimate favorite, it came pretty close.
Finally! We get the story about why Yolanda has this hunky body guard! I am such a fan of Cheris Hodges and I love this series of books about the Richardson Sisters, set in gorgeous Charleston. I like Yolanda. She is spunky and no-nonsense but we have the stoic Charles that somehow sparks something in here that she didn't think she had.
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to get the previous ARCS of the other two books in the series as well. Also, I cannot wait for the audiobook of this as well.
"Open Your Heart" by Cheris Hodges was an excellent read in the Ricahrdson Sisters Series. I have had the privilege of receiving ARCs of them all and the Richardson sisters are much fun. Yolanda is the main character in the third Richardson sisters. She has been expressed as the wild child throughout the series and I was eager to see how she would find love and be slow down in wild and adventurous life of hers, but witnessing a death and to need a bodyguard was beyond my thought process. But it was much enjoyable to read about.
Introduction this complicated body guard, Charles a.k.a Chuck Norris (insert laugh here) was the perfect touch. Due to feeling for a person he was supposed to protect he felt his main duty was to keep Yolanda safe and not to deal with emotions that he was beginning to feel for her seeing how those same feelings cost him a great love previously.
Yolanda fought for what she felt for Charles and he had to learn to trust his heart while protecting her. They both faced revelations about leaving the past behind them. Yolanda had to work on the loss she felt with her mom and Charles with the loss of his client and former lover. I am glad the killers were bought to justice and the other murder mysteries were solved as well. I was happy for Yo-Yo and Charles happy ending. The fact that they got a extra surprise at the end made me the happiest
I was also happy that Charles work partner receive justice for her sister's murder. There were a few small things that irked me. The book was quite repetitive at times and the a lot of ends seem left opened. Oan: I can't wait for Alex's journey to love and hopefully it will be on this tropical vacation she is about to embark on. I know this man will be really strong to handle Miss bossy pants (lol). Overall I would recommend this read to others as it was a good one. It was fun catching up with the Richardson clan and love that all the stories are playing out within each other. That's pretty cool. It allows for you to stay invested in the sister's lives as well
I would like to thank Kensington Publishing and Netgally for my ARC of this fine read. This is my honest and humble review of "Open Your Heart."
OPEN YOUR HEART is book # 3 in the "Richardson Sisters" series and the first book that I've read by this author. There were a few times that I would have liked to have known more about the sisters backstory, but it didn't detract too much from the story.
This is one of those books that I am torn by. It is well written and edited yet it dragged a little for me. The entire book surrounds one particular event and a few of the h's decisions really boggled my mind.
I would consider this a bit of a slow burn and while I did skim a little at places, it was an over all decent read.
I received an advanced copy from net-galley
Open Your Heart is book 3 in the Richardson Sisters Series. In this book we travel back to books 1 and 2 stories left off.. Yolanda is a spicy woman who owns a fashion boutique in Richmond, VA. Unfortunately, one night leaving her boutique she witnessed a crime that puts her life at risk. Enter Charles the protector. Yolanda is a handful for anyone, let alone a perfectly strange man who is hired to protect her. Open your heart is more than about keeping Yolanda alive. It is about love, betrayal, sisterhood, and family. Open Your Heart allows us to visit with the Richardson family again. Simple and easy read.
I enjoyed reading this story. I really like Charles, although his profession can be dangerous he very cautious and takes it serious. I think his alpha persona makes room for his gentlemanly charms. Yolanda is just way too high strung for me especially considering her predicament. It was hard for me to warm up to her because she couldn't seem to make up her mind who she was. As a whole I think the story is a 3 1/2* I haven't read any of the other books in the zestful Richardson Sisters series. I think this story would have been better reading for me if I had since all the sisters are so heavily involved in this story. Those insights were perplexing without already knowing the complicated and very astonishing history that is alluded to. It's heavy on the drama side which is always entertaining. I received an advance free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Open Your Heart by Cheris Hodges
I do apologize for this but I was not able to finish the book. It became a PTSD trigger for me- this is unusual for me thus I ordered the book for review. However, it did happen. I wish Ms. Hodges great luck with this publication.
