This isn't a book, which I didn't realize before, but I think that this is a great resource for the casual reader or a biookclub.

I read the Midnight Library when it first came out a few years ago and I absolutely loved it. This book club kit is a great companion piece to the novel itself and I thought that the book club questions provided would be a great way to start some really interesting conversations within a book club. The interview with Matt Haig was my favourite part of this kit as I thought it was fascinating to read about how he came up with the unique concept for this book and how his own experiences with mental health influenced his writing.

My only complaint is that I wish this kit were slightly longer than 7 pages and had some more interactive activities to do. Other book club kits contain ideas for food and drink as well as a playlist which would enhance a book club meeting about this book and I wish this kit contained something similar to these. If I were to run a book club meeting using just the questions and interview provided I would be concerned that it wouldn't fill the time sufficiently.

Absolutely loved this book, and loved this kit!

I read the Midnight Library for the first time years ago, and details of the story have stuck with me ever since. I recommend it to everyone, it's incredibly introspective and poignant without being preachy.

This kit is a great supporting document to anyone who would like a behind-the-scenes or more in-depth analysis of this fantastic book.

This is great resource for anyone hosting a book club! Or if you’ve read the text and just want to dive in further afterwards. Would recommend!

“Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices… Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?”

TW: suicide and mental illness

Nora makes the decision to end her own life, but rather than death she is greeted by the midnight library.

She is encouraged to look at her life had she made different choices. What her life would look like if she went back to the moments she regrets and did things differently.

You follow Nora through all of these different realities. The storytelling in this book is just plain beautiful.

Matt Haig can certainly paint a picture and make you feel what the characters do.

I really loved this and found it to be worth the hype. 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫.

As I loved the midnight library, that I read years ago and is still one of my favourite books of all times, I really enjoyed reading the interview with the author. In fact, after reading “In conversation with Matt Haig”, I am interested in reading his non-fiction but especially his novels that play with fantasy elements, in particular “How to stop time”.
I recommend reading this interview after having finished the book, to avoid spoilers, because it will give you a better understanding of what there is behind such an inspiring book.

The writing and message in this book were beautiful but it honestly was just so depressing sometimes that I almost didn't finish it. I understand the point the author is making and appreciate the message, but it was honestly a bit of a downer to get through in my opinion.

Great book!!! This book really makes you questions all the decisions you have made as well as those yet to come. If I was not retiring this year, I would use this book in class. However, I will still highly recommend this book to anyone! There are many elements in our current world that we wish we could change. This books makes the reader take a look at the choices we make and question those yet to come in depth!

This book club kit was used during my library book club. It was great to hear from the author about his inspiration and reasons behind the writing of this book. The questions provided created many thought provoking conversations about regrets, what our portals would look like and if age was the factor behind Nora’s decisions. Most of the fellow book club participants voiced how they wished that the book should have a warning for suicide and mental health services listed at the end of the book. I would have also liked to see more questions relating to mental health which I think was not addressed at all.
*Thank you to the author, Netgalley and Penguin Random House Library Resources for the ARC copy. I am freely leaving my honest review.

Great option for book clubs to utilize for discussion!! Didn’t notice the “book club kit” at first, so maybe that tag could be made more visible. Overall great resource!

I think this concept has been done before, and yet each time I eat it up.

Main character is fed up and over life and gets the chance to examine their life choices and jump into alternate lives to see what choices would make them happy or satisfied.

I love these kinds of stories because they force me as a reader to examine my own life and my own choices and attitudes. I think this would be a great introduction to this form of reflective fiction.

I recently read The Midnight Library and found the discussion questions thought-provoking. I also really appreciated that the author, Matt Haig answered the discussion questions too. He was open and honest about his personal struggles with mental health.

Such an amazing, enlightening book! One that teaches you a lesson on life and regret, making the best out of the life you have now, and living life for you and not for anyone else! Loved this book! "The only way to learn is to live."

The book club kit helps you dive further into each topic touched on in this book, and makes you think about and question more in depth. Because the book itself is so complex and well-structured, each opinion and viewpoint will be different, and that helps open up very interesting topics and discussion (prompted by the discussion questions provided).

The Midnight Library is one of my favorite books, one that I have read more than once, and I'm so happy I found this book club kit!

The Midnight Library is a magic ride through some tough topics. The concept of the library where you can see the millions of ways your life could have played out seems like something everyone would love to visit. The story was moving, the ending was fantastic, and the heavier topics covered in the book were talked about with grace.

Nice questions to discuss with my book club - we’ll definitely apply them.

The prompts give you additional context on how to think about scenes.
