Book Club Kit: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig is a resource for interested book clubs in reading the popular 2020 novel. Comprising two sections, the first is a series of questions to generate a discussion of content and personal reflection on the novel. The second half is a conversation with Matt Haig, answering questions in regard to the book and revealing some interesting antidotes. The eight discussion starters are somewhat basic but appropriate enough, given the contents of the book. Though only a small novella, it is a helpful accompaniment with a three star rating. With thanks to Penguin Random House Library Resources and the author, for an uncorrected advanced reader copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and freely given.
This was just not what I expected.
A few extra information and some questions to discuss - I have to admit, I somehow expected something more.
This book club kit includes 8 discussion questions and an interview with the author Matt Haig.
The questions mainly focus on self-reflection and trying to relate your life situations to the book. I thought some questions were a little too personal to be discussed in a book club. Questions can easily be answered or thought about by oneself.
The interview mainly talks about how the book came to be and how or why did the author make certain choices.
It was fun and engaging, the guides as well as the background of the book is very interesting. It helps me become more interested in reading the book itself
The Midnight Library book club kit of The Midnight Library with good questions to discuss the book with others. A good exercise.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Library Resources for this Book Club Kit.
This is a brilliant resource for book clubs and general discussions about Nora's experiences in the Midnight Library, which I found to be a poignant read around mental health.
I especially enjoyed reading the interview with Matt Haig and learning about his own experiences with mental health and who he incorporates this into his works.
This is such a fun, engaging book club kit! I love reading interviews with authors, and hearing about what inspired them to write their novel. The included discussion questions are perfect for encouraging deeper exploration of the book's characters and themes, the kit is easily printable/accessible and I loved how Netgalley began including on their sites. Will definitely use in the near future with my very own book club.
This book club kit of The Midnight Library contains good questions to talk about when you have read the book.
I haven't read the Midnight Library - but when I do with my book club I will definitely use this kit to kick off my discussion!
I enjoyed this book, I read A LOT of reviews going into this book so I was unsure if I was going to love or hate this book (I feel like I never read a review in between) the description of the book immediately hooked me. This year I have been reading a lot of fantasy so based on this I wanted to see what the hype in 2020 was from.
I enjoyed reading about Nora in her different worlds based on the regrets she made. Each life was a new experience, but I did also feel like the ending was too wrapped up in a self help book. The way the book was written in short chapters is my favorite kind of reading where you just speed through the book. I would suggest this book to anyone that wants to read fantasy fiction.
Awesome to have some resources for the midnight library to discuss further. Love Matt Haig and all his books!
I really enjoyed 'The Midnight Library' by Matt Haig. I enjoyed the fantasy of quite literally falling into a book and getting lost and finding oneself. A very poignant/philosophical read as Nora travels through different versions of her life while she struggles between life & death. A great book that stayed with me.
If you ever want a paper resource for your library, consider this one. It has some nice and insightful questions that make you think hard about the topics explored in this book.
This Book Club Kit is a must have for all book discussions, it is an easy tool to use and all the summaries and questions really help you understand the context of the book which is really helpful for people who read or struggled to finish the book, it gives you light at the end. Highly recommended for book clubs.
Good questions to discuss midnight library: these can also be found online. Great topics for discussion with this read
This book club kit was so great. I love my book club and the material in here provided us with some great conversations! I really enjoyed The Midnight Library.
Inspiring questions surrounding the book. Overall great content, will be using at my book club, as this is my next pick. I liked the content and highly recommend for groups.
This was a great kit to go with the book! I think book clubs will definitely get a lot out of this and it was very informative.
Definitely not my cup of tea but was an interesting read I guess. Some of the words and context used to describe what was happening didn't resonate right with me. I can't picture picking it up again but maybe someday in the future.
"That is just me. I add nothing. I am wallowing in self-pity."
This line was a small thing I could relate to at a point in my life however, I didn't anticipate reading about it.
“The only way to learn is to live”
A strong tip you can give anyone who is somewhat struggling but it won't always work. When it does, go on the adventure with them. It's true. We learn through living and make mistakes by living too. No better way to fix what you did wrong than by doing it again and changing a key point.
“She realized that she hadn’t tried to end her life because she was miserable, but because she had managed to convince herself that there was no way out of her misery.”
I loved The Midnight Library, and these book club questions are excellent. I used them with my own book club, and we all found them to be insightful and fun to answer and discuss.
