This is a great kit to have for book club discussions and to have while reading this book. Thank you to NetGalley, publisher, and author for a gifted copy. This is my honest review.

This was a beautiful book club kit. My book club picked Transcendent Kingdom as our February 2021 read and we used this kit at our zoom meeting.

First off, it was lovely to look at: Great graphic design. The questions were great to get discussion going.

We also spent a good deal of time talking through the Suggested Reading list. A number of us had read some of the books on the list and I know many of us added some of the suggested books to our to read list.

Great questions was asked to lead group discussions. I was hoping to have the book too, but since I don’t I can’t judge off of if the questions are the “juicy” part within the book.

Interesting idea to have a book club kit - its a great book for a book club. Cant really review the kit as such but no complains.

This review is for the Book Club Kit for Transcendent Kingdom. This kit includes a collection of reviews, a short interview with the author, discussion questions about the book, and a list of books to read after Transcendent Kingdom. I found the elements, particularly the interview and discussion questions to be thoughtful. I believe reading the interview and using the discussion questions during a book club would add depth to the discussion.

I do wish there was some sort of description of the books recommended instead of just a list of books. Or a couple of words about why you might like this after Transcendent Kingdom.

I am unsure why reviews were included. Is it to entice people to use this book? I wouldn't think it would be helpful for people who read the book.

Overall, I would recommend using this Book Club Kit for Transcendent Kingdom!

Thank you so much for access to the Book Club Kit for Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi. It was a great resource to use with my Book club in conjugation with our choice for this month. I appreciate the questions all gathered in a place so that I don’t have to invent some on my own!!

I was very glad to learn of this resource after reading 'Transcendent Kingdom' because I think this would be a great fit for my book club!

I very much enjoyed the provided discussion questions and suggested books. First of all, the design of this resource is so aesthetically pleasing. Second, the questions covered just about every part of the book, which I loved! The audience of my book club is generally Christian, and I felt that the discussion questions provided would create great discussion amongst us.

I did not feel the author Q&A was especially helpful for our book club - just not a resource I felt was necessary.

I just got Transcendent Kingdom, and am excited to read it and follow up with these thought-provoking discussion questions about the book. I really love the addition of the Q&A with the author, and the Suggested Reading list as well!

I thought this was going to be the actual book. Yes, I know it says that it isn't in the description, but apparently I can't read. Still a nice set of questions though, one that I plan on using and consulting once I actually read the book.

I'm really looking forward to reading Transcendent Kingdom, and hoping my book club selects it as our pick during our next meeting! This guide will be awesome to have for our discussion, as it includes a Q&A with the author, and a nice list of questions and topics for discussion as a group. At the end it includes further suggested reading, which is always great when you want more recs similar to a book you just loved! Really looking forward to using this!

This was a lovely addition to this title. The Q&A added great context, and the discussion questions were pointed and insightful. I loved that this kit added some more suggested reading at the end.

Pros: With Homecoming and Transcendent Kingdom, Yea Gyasi has become an author who I want to read everything she writes. I also want to discuss with others everything she writes. As a book club leader, I found this book club kit to be very helpful in guiding future book club discussions. I especially enjoyed reading the Q&A with the author. I think a book club can have much discussion based on these questions and answers in addition to the reading group guide. I thought the discussion questions were very thoughtful and non-judgmental, which is important with books that include sensitive topics such as addiction. I also appreciated the suggested reading list, which to me said "if you liked this book, you might also like _____." As I've read Transcendent Kingdom and five of the books on the list and enjoyed all of them, I am eager to read more of the books on this list. (A note--I think I would have appreciated a quick blurb about why each book was included on this list.)

Cons: This was a very short guide, so I'm not sure if it will meet the expectations of all readers. So far, the Mexican Gothic book club kit is the best one I've read. Also, I'm not sure that knowing that this book received a lot of praise will add much to a book club discussion.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Library Resources for the opportunity to read this book club kit! I've read several of these kits and enjoy each one and how they uniquely reflect the book.

I was so excited to get a chance to read this book after hearing so much about it. I was very impressed with the author's writing style and ability to tell a story that keeps you thinking about it long after it is over.

This book club kit is the perfect companion to the book. It asks thought provoking questions that let you take a deeper dive into the book. There is a great Q&A with the author! I also like the suggested reading list at the end.

I'm a fan of Yaa Gyasi. I LOVED her debut, Homegoing, so I highly anticipated her follow up novel. Transcendent Kingdom is quite different, and unfortunately I was left feeling disappointed after finishing it.

However, I might have appreciated it more had I had this Book Club Kit in hand to reflect on its story more immediately afterward. In particular, the Q&A with the author really helps to understand her inspiration for writing it, as well as her POV on the characters and their actions.

Also included in the BCK are "praise" quotes from other authors like Roxane Gay and Ann Patchett (that aren't all that beneficial), 12 reading group discussion questions, and a list of similar books for suggested reading.

As for the pamphlet's design, it's visually appealing and actually in a landscape format (although the cover appears to be portrait).

As far as questions for a book club, this would work well. Asks questions that challenge the reader to think more deeply about the issues addressed in the book.
