An informative little book club guide that got me very excited to read this book. There are a large number of discussion questions that look well designed but importantly don't spoil the plot. And the other interview was engaging and interesting. Moving this book up to "to be read" list!
This Penguin Random House Book Club Kit is such a great idea. It's short and concise, spicing up your book club meeting without making a literal plan or taking up your entire time as a group.
This kit consists of:
- a list of inventive, poignant questions; I love how thought provoking and open they are, welcoming many different points of view in your group
- an interview with the author
- Q&A with the author
- suggested readings.
While I really loved the personal touches from the author, making a book club meeting a much more immersive experience, I didn't really care for the suggested reading list. As a book club, we always have a longer reading list than it's feasible to get through. I also wish there was a more creative section, say a list of themed recipes, some DIY, a playlist, etc.
It's a book club kit that provides with tips, suggestions and discussions on the book. Depending on how you look at it, it's a great primer to the book or a discussion guide on the themes presented in the book. I couldn't get the eARC when it dropped here but this was helpful nevertheless in understanding the book!
I loved getting to look through this fun Book Club Kit for Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi.
This was one of my favorite reads of 2020 and it's a great title for book clubs- there's so much to discuss.
The packet is beautiful with artwork that compliments the book's cover art.
It includes great discussion questions with a lot of thought put into them and a great interview with the author. I also like the suggested reading at the end - I'm always looking for book recommendations that are in the same vein as favorite reads.
Thanks to Penguin Random House Library Resources and NetGalley for the advance copy.
A really thoughtful (and beautifully laid out) book club kit. I read Transcendent Kingdom when it released and feel that the discussion questions align with the book nicely. I also appreciate the suggested readings, many of which I have read or are on my list!
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the free review kit.
I loved the graphics! I also really loved the suggested reading at the end. The questions were great, especially because this can be a tough book to navigate within a group of people who might have different views. This kit is fantastic!
Thanks to the publisher for providing this book club kit! I found this to be very useful to have. I think the suggested questions are thought provoking. I also highly enjoyed the suggested reading options afterwards.
Book Club Kit: Transcendent Kingdom is one of a new series of supporting brochures and materials available for top end fiction and nonfiction titles from Penguin Random House Librarian Resources. Released 11th Feb 2021 by Penguin Random House, this entry is filled with interesting background history to enhance the personal or book-club reading experience for Yaa Gyasi's powerful and pointed book from 2020. This brochure is 5 pages long and includes discussion questions, background reference, suggested reading list (with authors), and a short interview with the author.
I enjoy the extra resources and enhancements the larger publishing houses are able to employ to support their publications. I also appreciate that most library systems can provide quite a lot of extra support and guidance to their patrons and groups. These materials would be appropriate for online/remote discussion groups, formal education (gender & race studies, sociology , modern history, and allied subjects), and for enhancing personal reading. I found a number of good ideas for further reading including authors with whom I was previously unfamiliar.
Five stars. Compact, succinct, beautiful typesetting and graphics. It does -not- include the original book, just the discussion and support materials. Available free from the publisher's website.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
This was such a great guide to navigate the difficult topics discussed in this book.
This book was beautiful- the discussion of addiction, science, religion, racism; it hit all of the difficult topics in such a powerful way. It made me an amazing discussion and amazing book.
This was one of my favorite books I read in 2020. I would love my book club to read this one and use this book club guide to have a great discussion about this book. I appreciate the idea behind having a book club guide because thinking of group questions can be intimidating for people. Thank you!
Transcendent Kingdom was probably my favorite book that came out in 2020 so I was eager to see what the book club kit would contain. The kit is brief but packed with great content including: author interview, thoughtful discussion questions, and suggested reading. This will be a wonderful starting point for clubs discussing this amazing book!
Book Club Kit: Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi is a fun addition once you've read Transcendent Kingdom to further engage in the story. This kit includes discussion questions to consider with a book club or individually, a conversation with the author, and suggested reading for after the novel. This is the perfect kit to enhance the reader's overall experience.
I found this super helpful after I finished the novel.
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
