This was an interesting piece of toolkit with some features I hadn't seen before. The dress up doll was an interesting concept and I can see what they were trying to do by including something visual and practical, but I'm not sure if it is something I would actually be inclined to use.

The spotify list is very on trend for dark romance, so I can see why the author including this given the gothic aesthetic. I do always like getting into the music tastes of the author, especially in regard to what they have in mind for tge theme of the novel. This was definitely an interesting one, on the one hand I loved seeing The Killing Moon but I did internally cringe a bit at Marilyn Manson for obvious reasons.

The questions themselves were quite standard and interesting enough. There were definitely topics covered that I found appealed to me, but again, not unusual or extraordinary either.

Interesting but I was ready for it to be over by the end. It was alot different than I expected. More thriller with elements of horror. Not really fantasy.

Not relaly the book itself. This was a book club kit--a very helpful one when you have a group of people to read Mexican Gothic with.

I have never seen or knew there was a book club editions. I do like and appreciate the background information. But, I mostly find helpful the questions using predictions the playlist is an extra bonus and I will be listening to all the songs to download to my Amazon music.

This Book Club Kit is so complete! I loved the author's note in the beginning, that provides the historical context of Mexican Gothic. The questions themselves are good too! I feel like they balance what readers can share about what they enjoyed and what they didn’t, as well as going deeper into certain aspects of the novel.

The playlist is such a great addition! Nothing makes me more excited about a book than an accompanying playlist.

I loved the essay about the genre! It was informative and insightful and makes me want to read more gothic/noir novels.

I like the finishing touch with the paper doll. The outfits are to die for! Shout out to the artist.

So I love Mexican Gothic and was intrigued to see there was a book club kit. It's so wonderful! It starts out with commentary about the time and place, followed by questions and a playlist and even patterns so you can dress the main character. This is a lot of fun.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me have this

I was excited to see the Bookclub Kit for Mexican Gothic was available because it’s on the short list this month for the book club I’m in. If we end up reading Mexican Gothic, it would be nice to have a guide for the conversation.

Seeing a playlist in the kit is great! I love immersive experiences. The questions posed for discussion in the kit seem helpful, especially Question number 6. Very often our discussions in bookclub focus on the smaller details of the characters and story. We forget to discuss the overall message and purpose.

There are additional fun things in this kit I’m not sure we would use but I think the note from the author, the playlist, and the questions are what I’m most excited to use if our bookclub decides. This looks like a very helpful kit!

This is the first time that I had noticed a "Book Club Kit" available on NetGalley and will surely keep my eyes out for more especially when it comes to some of my favorite past reads that I have recommended to my library and neighborhood/social book clubs. I had previously read Mexican Gothic last year and loved it and quickly added it to my clubs "TBR" list and ironically it will be our April read so finding this worked out perfectly.
While I knew I personally enjoyed reading Mexican Gothic, having the topic questions makes meetings much more helpful. I love that Silvia Moreno-Garcia added the background information regarding the genre of gothic stories and the evolution they have made throughout the years in the kit. I found it just as fascinating as the background information on Mexican mining towns, the scars they left both internally and emotionally as well as on the landscape. Well done! Thank you to NetGalley and Silvia Moreno-Garcia for this wonderful addition to our meeting.

I loved this book - an interesting and unusual read that was reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca. The unsettling atmosphere permeated the book, with every reveal more chilling than the last. A brilliant read, which I really enjoyed!

Silvia Moreno-Garcia is becoming one of my favourite authors. The club file is really interesting with Q&As, activities, etc.

This Book Club Kit contains discussion questions, a letter from the author, a playlist as well as a paper cut out doll designed to accompany a book club meeting about Mexican Gothic. I really liked the interactive elements of this kit for example the playlist and dress up doll as these really help to bring the book to life. I particularly enjoyed the playlist and think it would be fun to have it playing in the background of the meeting to mirror the atmosphere of the book.

My only complaint is that I found some of the author segments extremely wordy and the text was presented as a thick block of text which was quite off-putting. I also think it would be difficult to have conversations surrounding these pages as there is too much information to try and digest in a short period of time during a book club meeting.
