A great guide for others creating book club materials. ( a review for the Book Club Kit and not the actual book Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia)

Thank you to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for a copy of this book kit in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first experience using a book kit and I absolutely loved it. Having the questions from the kit to think about as I read made me really analyze what I was reading and think about the plot more in depth. The addition of the Spotify playlist was awesome! I wish every book came with a playlist as it definitely added to vibe when reading.
The paper dolls being included was a cute idea but not every reader will have access to a printer so I don’t think it was necessary. But I did like it because it helps create a visual of Noemi.

I didn't realize this wasn't the actual book, but nonetheless I enjoyed it. It containes some interesting additional materials from the author and a great playlist recommendation.

This is a useful resource to help prepare for and direct a discussion for book groups and in the classroom. We have a couple of senior students who have selected this novel for their dissertation and I think that this will be useful to help them create a good bank of notes/prepare for a discussion of the text to help with that. Many thanks!

I thought this was the actual book itself but that’s my bad. I loved hearing about the authors inspiration for the book and the thematic choices although I felt the piece as a whole was directed towards a younger audience, unlike the book itself maybe. I also thought the questions were good starters for more in in-depth conversations that may not have been thought about otherwise

Like others, I didn’t realize that this was a Book Club kit when I requested it; however, I did review the materials and found them to be wonderful for a book club! They could be a great guide for others creating book club materials. I loved the inclusion of the background information, the playlist, and even paper dolls!! The paper dolls made me feel super nostalgic.

Great resource! I hadn't realised this was a book club kit instead of the book, but it was a nice surprise!

Very helpful resource! Great discussion questions as well as a book-inspired playlist Thank you to the author and publisher for this book club kit :-)

A great resource for a book club to discuss and enjoy together. I thought it was the book at first but realized that it was a guide instead.

I didn’t know this type of kit could be found, I would definitely used it when I read this book in the next book club pick, totally recommend specially for events with spooky books were the radar want to know a more in deep analysis of the book.
The playlist is also and amazing resource, I love to collect does.

EXCELLENT! Super helpful for our book club, which featured this book for Hispanic Heritage Month.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I didn't realize this was the book club kit instead of the book. The book is excellent.
Thanks to NetGalley / Edelweiss and the publisher for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for a review.

Will definitely be utilizing this book club kit when this book is chosen for our book club - I'm pushing for it for September as we enter spooky season! I always love a playlist that goes along with a book and these paper dolls are to die for!!

this was a perfect catch up after finishing mexican gothic for the most part
while i enjoyed the behind the scenes and pictures of their attire, the novel itself was slightly lacking some of this so it was nice to see it in context to the story

This book club kit was well thought out and put together. It not only included thoughtful questions, but also background info, a playlist, and a paper doll! I don't think I've ever seen a paper doll in a book club kit before. This would be a great kit for someone wanting to change up a book club meeting.

Absolutely love the book club kits for Silvia Moreno-Garcia's books. This kit for Mexican Gothic is so helpful. I'm starting a horror book club this fall and we will definitely be using this. Moreno-Garcia is now one of my favorite authors!

The Book Club Kit for Mexican Gothic is easy to use, and a wonderful way to kickstart book club discussions about the book. Not only did I appreciate the easy to use format, but so did friends and participants.

This was a delighted collection of question and what not to go over with your book club. Really recommend it!

I received a free copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This was a great Book Club Companion to Mexican Gothic. It really helped to keep us on task, dissect the book and keep the conversations going. I really enjoyed using this in our book club and look forward to more book club kits.

➸ effusing the usual gothic genre trappings, mexican gothic capitalizes on a genre chronically concerned with escapism to deliver a haunting indictment on colonialism and eugenics. moreno-garcia powerfully transplants real-life themes of white-supremacy, classism and xenophobia into a novel which guilefully lures you in under false pretences of solely offering cliched gothic tropes. instead, through slyly-wrought manipulations of the usual set and cast of a gothic work and all the requisite body horror, real-life has never been closer at hand.
my review for the book club kit :
➸ this was a cute addition although if i were a paying customer and this were to increase the price i’d definitely forgo it. the questions felt like generalized, as if they could have pertained to just about any book and lacked any real potency. when it comes to the playlist curated by moreno-garcia at least then perhaps some readers would feel more inclined to make the purchase for it was a nice touch.
