Everyone talked so highly of this book and it was my book of the month I was so excited but In all honesty it was a pretty big let down. I think perhaps this read just wasn’t for me. The premise was wonderful so I dived right in but as I did I was super disappointed. Noemi is living the good life and living off daddy’s money in Mexico City. That big favor her dad asks her to do she can’t do and she comes off as if she’s stuck but why can’t she just leave? Her wandering around the house aimlessly dragged on way too long and was so boring. I Waited for the nightmares to become good and creepy but it was just a let down.

I had just watched Crimson Peak when I read this book, very similar vibes, in the best way possible! I absolutely love this gothic horror historical fiction. And the twist is simply *chef's kiss*! The writing is gorgeous and extremely immersive. I cannot wait for those to become a show, I just hope they do this fanatic novel justice!

Honestly, is there anything better than a Playlist for a good book? This is a great book club kit with thought provoking questions and fantastic historical background tidbits. And perfectly topping it off is the paper doll of Noémi. A spot on blend of discussion, discovery, and fun.

Loved the author’s note and discussion questions, all very helpful for any book club that picks Mexican Gothic. Illustrations were delightful and complemented the text excerpts, along with more context provided by the author. Overall very helpful and insightful!

I really loved the questions for book club. I was nervous that it was going to be your typical questions but they were very different and thought provoking. I deff recommend this if you have a monthly book club.

This is a wonderful idea to put up info about the book and its essential factors of plot, theme, idea, inspiration, etc. To help understand the structure better including the print cutouts was creative. Loved to know the author's insights related to the location, culture, and tradition that are encrypted in the novel.

A unique idea to set up not only discussion questions, but also a playlist, back story that inspired the novel and dress up dolls to help immerse the readers in the story even further. I love when authors involve song and imagery in their writing, but to include it as part of the book club guide seems like a stroke of brilliance. A nice accompaniment to the novel.

This kit has a page questions to ask to stimulate conversation. Then their is a story about who the real Deal Monte. You then can use the figurines to dress the dolls what a what they would be doing.

Gives me an idea of an image as I read the book. Can’t wait to read it soon! I was thinking I was requesting the actual book. I need to make sure I read more carefully. Still pretty cool.
