I'm currently reading this and I think that this kit is superful helpful. I'm going to try to convince a group of friend to start a book club and read it next month.
This is a truly lovely book club kit for Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. It gave me a quick and easy lesson on some Mexican history, Mexican geography, and gothic writing history. I am of Mexican descent myself, and loved how the culture was discussed and shared. I am completely obsessed with the Noemi dress up doll’s outfits and loved the history given for each outfit as well. Besides being adorable, these definitely helped me visualize Noemi and gave more context to her look. I would absolutely recommend this book club kit for Mexican Gothic.
Book Club Kits should be attached to every single released book. They are such a plus! I loved the deep dive into Mexican Gothic but, because of the illustrations, I wish this book club kit was also available as a pdf. The fashion segment was very interesting. It added perspective to the characters and the way I picture them. Whoever created this book club kit: amazing work!
This was a very helpful resource for my book club! It initiated interesting discussions on Mexican Gothic and made us all view the text in a different light.
This is a really helpful resource for book clubs. The prompts would definitely be useful to initiate a deeper conversation about a fascinating text. I would definitely recommend to book clubs and students who want to have a starting point for an interesting conversation.
As a facilitator to the Romance Book Group at my library branch, this book club kit guide was extremely helpful. It helped me organize and prepare for the book group discussion and easily manage the meeting. The guide helped us discuss the book in depth and added a lot of insight to understanding the time period, setting, and genre of the book. I would really recommend this book club kit to other book group facilitators and members.
Thank You Netgalley for the Book Club kit: Mexican Gothic. I enjoyed how thorough it was as well as the questions. The resources were great! thank you!
Love the resources provided within this book! It is great for those who need a guide to help them with starting a book club.
A tale to remember. I raced through this book, unable to blink or put it down. The author brilliantly described the setting, making this dark yet vivid tale come alive. A must read!
Thank you, NetGalley for the book club questions and goodies. They really made me focus on the characters and some of the deeper meanings behind the story. If you are reading this book for a book club check out the Mexican Gothic Book Club kit on #NetGalley, it's brilliant!
This is a lovely reference for those starting a book club and are looking for some guidance for thoughtful questions when reading Mexican Gothic.
Mexican Gothic is a great book and this kit will help my book club discuss it. The questions are great and I'm always a fan of a playlist.
I’m finding that I’m becoming more and more of a fan of Thriller and Mystery books. Noemi’s cousin was a whackadoodle. Who marries someone that they’ve only known for 5 minutes? Everything about that house including the people living in it creeped me out beyond words. For me it was a very enjoyable read and I would recommend.
I absolutely loved this book club kit. My book club will be reading this book sometime this year, so I am very excited to bring this up and possibly use it in our discussions and conversations.
This was perfect for what I needed! Super helpful and put book club was able to properly discuss the book without any weird awkward pauses. It kept conversation flowing and was awesome.
Maybe it's because book clubs aren't for me... but I don't get why anyone needs prompts (like these) to talk meaningfully about a book. Maybe I took too many english and french literary classes in my life and can already anticipate the (boring) questions that a teacher might ask? I dunno; but to me I'd much rather hear folks talk about their reaction, emotions, thoughts towards a book and allow that conversation to flow into further discussions, like mentioned in this book club kit, than to just be awkward and start with the questions and hope people follow along.
What I have learned from this one is that book club kits are just not for me. And that's okay. Even for books I LOVE I still don't have a desire to be prompted this way.
So I'll give this four stars as for those who need it I think the questions are quite good.
That said, if you are a book club moderator I'd say use these questions as the goal to get to in your conversation; but try to come about them in a less awkward, and more organic way.
Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review.
Accidentally received this not realizing it’s a kit. I was hoping to get the book and sometimes I don’t notice right away that it’s a book kit until it’s too late.
Actually, I thought this was the book itself which is why I requested it! Cute bookclub kit if that's your thing, however I just wanted to read the book!
Love this book club kit! The little paper dolls are so fun and reminicnet of the paper dolls I used to love as a child.
i think this would be a fun resource to add to a book club reading the book Mexican Gothic as it has good questions and fun activities.
I love this book club kit! It's both aestetically pleasing and comprehensive. Gorgeous layout, which includes: an author interview, recommendations for upcoming reads, games, a playlist, recipes and discussion questions. I wish there was a kit like this for all books. I'd be more apt to pick up certain books for my book club. The work is done and looks like the making of a good time.
This book club kit starts any discussion leader with a lot of questions and ill be a valuable asset to any librarian leading the discussion on Mexican Gothic. I appreciate this resource and hope it is the first of many for popular titles like Mexican Gothic!
