Major Devon Hart used to be able to charm any woman into his bed, and he didn't care if they were married or not. Since his injury he believes that he got the justice he deserves. Now unable to face polite society, he prowls the night protecting those who need it. Our hero is a tortured soul with only one true friend.

Lady Atalanta Grey is a beautiful heiress , and dislikes all the shallow flattery that comes her way. She would much rather spend her time learning about medical matters from the Doctor at the hospital.

Our heroine is lucky enough to have loving and understanding parents that allow her to study and help where she wants.

An emotional story with characters you will easily fall in love with. The Hart family are a mixed bunch. Wealthy because the head of the family is a Banker, but outside of the highest society for the same reason.

This is the third book in the series where each book can be read on it's own. I will definitely be reading all of them.

A historical spin on Beauty and the Beast, Hidden Hart follows Devon, a man who believes he is not worthy of love, and Atalanta, the woman determined to prove him wrong. I loved this character-driven romance and was so excited to read Devon’s story. Devon appears in the first two books in the series, and I was intrigued by his mysterious and surly nature.

Scarred after a street brawl in which he saved a woman, Devon lives his life in the shadows. He can’t bear the stares, whispers, and horror from his peers and so lives on the fringe of society. Devon struggles with self-acceptance and doesn’t feel loved or worthy of love. He is a hero, and he doesn’t even see it. The only thing that gives him purpose is prowling the streets at night, protecting the innocent from danger. It almost feels like an atonement for his past mistakes to assuage himself of the guilt he feels from his philandering, rakish days.

Lady Atalanta is a fantastic character. Much like Devon, she wears a mask, though hers is more difficult to see. She plays the part of the dutiful debutante, but inside she yearns for more. She wants to be a doctor but knows that societal constraints stand in her way. Though marriage offers her security, it also squelches her dreams. Atalanta is a strong, astute, and independent thinker who is much more thoughtful, caring, and tender than she reveals.

I love how unaffected Atalanta is by the manipulations of men. I also love how she fights for Devon and takes the more aggressive role as the story progresses. She knows what she wants, and she’s determined to prove to him how worthy he is of her love. Devon has given up on life, and it takes her fiery spirit and determination to reawaken him and give him a stronger sense of purpose.

Atalanta and Devon have a wonderful, chemistry-filled connection, and their feelings for each other run deep. Both Atalanta and Devon value the importance of what’s inside and not just physical appearance. Atalanta and Devon are surrounded by people who are quick to judge and gossip, and they are both hampered by their looks in different ways – Atalanta because she is incredibly beautiful, and Devon because he is scarred. Devon is one of the few people who see beyond Lady Atalanta’s beauty to the intelligent and caring woman within, and Lady Atalanta is one of the few who does not care about his scars. She sees the honorable and brave man beneath. This leads to a swoon-worthy, angst-filled, and captivating love story!

Finally, I want to comment on Atalanta’s parents, as they put their love for their child above all else. Atalanta has the opportunity to marry a Duke and to have security for the rest of her life. But she knows this arrangement lacks the love she desires. She also knows that she won’t be able to realize her dreams if she marries the Duke. Her parents, instead of pushing her toward this loveless union, encourage her to keep searching. They don’t pressure her, like much of society does, and their indulgences with Atalanta reveal how much they love her and how much they want to see her happy. Atalanta’s happiness is more important to them than any social pressures and expectations, which is refreshing.

This is the third book in the Headstrong Harts series, but it can be read as a standalone. The first two books in the series, What the Hart Wants and Queen of My Hart are both fantastic reads as well! Thanks so much to Netgalley, Dragonblade Publishing, and Emily Royal for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

I have been following this series since the first one came out and I have been waiting for Devon's book since.

Here we have Devon, the scarred brother. Devon has based his entire life on his looks, and he thinks himself shallow and a disappointment. Thought the book, he fights to believe in himself as well as believe he is worthy of Lady Atalanta, and that is basically all about him. This trope has been around for a while and this part of the book is no different. I was expecting more, especially with his sisters that did not show up at all in this book.
Attie (a.k.a. Lady Atalanta) is the typical heroine that wants to be more than society future for herself, except her story was told in a way that did not make me think she was one more heroine that wanted to be different, she was already different with her aspirations and the medical care she applies since the begging. It was a great change and I liked that she had more than being a Lady. Her feelings for Devon developed in a nice space of time and their scenes together were very cute.

I look forward to hopefully see more of them in the next book.

Lady Atalanta is this Season's most beautiful debutante and gentlemen vie for her hand and her large dowry. Atalanta dismisses their attentions and longs for someone who will see beyond her beauty to the compassionate, determined and fiesty heroine who wants to change the lives of the less fortunate. She is saved by a masked man when accosted by ruffians one night and within minutes, he seems to understand her like no other. Devon Hart has a sordid past, one that he's not proud of especially the cuckolding of fellow soldiers wives. One night changes his life forever when he tries to save a woman and gets his handsome face slashed by her attackers. He retreats from Society, choosing instead to prowl the London streets at night foiling would be villains bent on attacking London citizens. When he saves Atalanta, he recognizes her innate goodness, but knowing he's a beast now and can never be worthy of her.

The Beauty and the Beast trope drives this story. I liked Atalanta's character especially her drive to help others. She wants to be seen as more than just a pretty face and her work in the local hospital defines that drive. Devon on the other hand loses his attractiveness in an unfortunate encounter with ruffians and believes no one could possible love him. He's a complicated character and I wasn't particularly enamored with him. I thought his internal dialogue that he was unworthy went on a bit too long. I did really like his interactions with Fanny and Margaret and wished there had been more scenes with these two strong women. While the HEA is a foregone conclusion, there are still a few twists and turns in the story to keep you turning the pages.

Left with a devastating scar on his handsome face Major Devon Hart remains hidden except at night when he prowls the street of London defending the weak and saving lives. His first encounter Lady Atalanta Grey when he was recovering from his wounds where fell in love at first sight with her soulful and caring eyes. Atlanta is a beautiful young woman inside and out, and she wants to be loved for herself not her wealth or her beauty. I love this captivating story of Devon a man so wounded in both body and soul he urns for the love a woman, but feels he doesn’t deserve to be happy, so he remains in the shadows and hides behind his mask. Lady Atalanta feels her savior watching her, watching out for her keeping her safe, but he doesn’t come close for her see him or feel him. What’s a friend to do when his best friend Colonel Fossett ask him his help to woo a special lady, except help his friend woo the lady, the lady he has loved sense first sight Lady Atalanta. What a story it’s filled with romance, tragedy, emotions and passion as these two grow closer and their can no longer be denied. I have voluntarily read and reviewed the excellent book.

I really enjoyed Atalanta, our heroine, and found her to be a fascinating character. She has a good hard, passion and a drive to change the world around her for the better. All while being the prettiest debutant of the season, which brings her suitors that would want her for her looks, not her mind and would most definitely not allow Atalanta to continue pursuing her study of medicine. I found it super compelling how she played into societies expectations of her while she steadfastly pushed for her true desires.

While I felt for Devon initially, he left me kinda lukewarm. He had these great established relationships with Fosset and Fanny, as well as the newly found friendship with his sister-in-law. Those showcased interesting sides in him and the author did a great job showing the deep connections he had with these characters. His story would’ve made for a great struggle for self acceptance, something his friends (and Atalanta) are pushing him towards. Yet that never really comes to pass and we have to read through almost the entirety of the book with Devon constantly describing himself as a monster and other not very favorable things.

The relationship between the two was nice though, they definitely made a good pair and fit well together. With their romance being such a forgone conclusion, after they both had been obsessed with each other for the better part of four years, I felt like we got not enough of them romancing each other. I just really hoped to see more of it as their scenes together were always very nice. The whole 'woo someone for someone else'-trope made for some great scenes between the two (and three) of them that had me giggling along while reading.

Having his handsome face scarred in a fight, Devon retreats from society. Atalanta is a beautiful debutante that wants to become a doctor. It is difficult to feel sorry for Atalanta who is rich, nobility, and beautiful with liberal parents. Devon, with his disagreeable past and scarred face feels he is not worthy of happiness. I think he was allowed to suffer way too long in this book. I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.

I don't like posting a review with a rating lower than four, but this is an advanced reader copy to review.
I have no problem with the trope/plot. I like a strong heroine, but I thought Devon was too weak and had absolutely no self-esteem. I really wanted to see him change much sooner than later. Not my type of hero. 3 1/2 *STARS.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I love a Beauty and the Beast themed loved story and Hidden Hart did not disappoint. A lovely crafted regency romance by Emily Royal had it all from friendship, angst, sacrifice and an everlasting love that cannot be denied. Devon and Atalanta had an undeniable connection from the start.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

After nearly dying on a battlefield in Burma, Major Devon Hart has returned his commission, and is living alone in London. Knowing that his past of cuckholding his fellow soldiers, and sleeping his way across the years, has left him ruined inside, he finds himself scarred beyond belief, when he saves a prostitute from being raped and murdered on the dockside. Thinking it to be divine intervention for his past transgressions, he hides himself behind a mask - both figuratively and literally - and roams the streets at night, protecting those in need, under the guise of the Beast of Belgravia. One person he protects is the beautiful Lady Atalanta Grey, who he spotted in the hospital while recovering from his injuries, and has fallen in love with. Thinking no one would ever love someone like him, who was so scarred, he holds himself back, but when his best friend asks him to help woo her, he is torn in two.

After reading the other two books in the series, I was intrigued by Devon and his story, and was more than happy with it all. Reading Hidden Hart was such a quick read, and I loved both of the main characters. Devon really surprised me - I thought I would dislike him for his whoring and his blunt way, but he was actually really sweet inside, and definitely cared for Atalanta, and his friends, Fanny and Fossett. He did have his hang ups, especially around his visage, and it got a bit grating at times, but I really liked his story line - even when it went in directions I wasn't expecting. Atalanta blew me away though. She's the only child of a wealthy Earl, and expected to marry well and is the most sought after heiress of the season. However, she doesn't care for all that, and would rather train to be a doctor, a surgeon, and help those less fortunate than herself. Her parents let her work with a local doctor, until she marries, and this freedom is almost too much, but meeting Devon, loving him, makes her realise that she will do anything to be with the one she loves, and nothing will stop her. The conclusion was perfect, though perhaps I would've liked the epilogue to have been set a little more in the future. I'm not sure if this is the final book in the series, but I hope it isn't, because I want to learn more about the other two Hart siblings.

Sweet and spicy, with one of the more affable heroes and daring heroines I’d seen in a while. Can’t wait to read more from this author
