I think I might be in the minority here, but I just didn't enjoy this. I don't know what it was, but I just couldn't get into it.
An excellent follow up to The Princess Will Save You! This series is an homage to The Princess Bride, and it shines through.
This sequel did not disappoint! The twists and turns on this one made me want to reread The Princess Will Save You. Definitely not the last time I read Sarah Henning.
The Princess Brides meets YA fantasy. I love these characters and this world and it was impossible to put this down.
If you enjoyed the first book you will likely enjoy this one as well. It's a bit more political than the first one. The princess Bride parallels continue so if you liked that about book one, there's more here and it was fun to notice all the references.
(i received an e-arc from tor and netgalley in exchange for an honest review.)
this final instalment was a bittersweet conclusion, and it fittingly wrapped up the characters' journey. should the mood hit, i'm definitely going to reread this series.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free advanced copy of this book to read and review.
I loved that i finally got around to this read and got to see these characters again!! I loved seeing the diffeerent dyamics betweens this characters and how the setting effected that. I also enjoye the new characters that we meet and the the new twists and turns this story presnred. I also loved the extenral pressures on this couple and not internal pressured. i am really excited to read book 3 soon!!
This was such a fun, action packed sequel that left me completely excited for the third book!! I couldn't stop reading, staying up until the late nights to binge it when I could. I could see a lot more resemblance to it being a Princess Bride retelling compared to the first book. Some new characters came into play, and It was so fun!!
This has quickly become one of my favorite YA Fantasy series!
I love the expanded story of Luca and us uncovering more of his story.
I loved the expanded political focus of the plot, though I could always go for more romance. 🙃🙃
This book really expanded the world building and I greatly enjoyed learning about the various kingdoms.
If you love YA Fantasy, don’t miss this series!
I'm in the minority here, but I just didn't get into this sequel. Amarande is meant to be the daughter of the Warrior King - sharp, clever and strategy trained. I just her decision making here rash and stupid. Otherwise I appreciate her fiery attitude and Luca is just a cinnamon roll.
I am absolutely obsessed with this world, characters, and story.
I had so much fun reading this one, I didn’t want to put it down.
I recommend this one to fans of YA fantasy, retellings, or anyone looking for a good story!
A solid follow up to Henning's The Princess Will Save You. A fun, YA retelling of The Princess Bride. The world is expanded on, and the pacing is quick! Can't wait for book three!
From the first paragraph, I knew this book would be a good one. I immersed myself into the book from the first chapter and I cannot say enough good things about this book! Honestly amazing! The writing is incredible and the plot is just one to die for. I am absolutely obsessed with this book. My favorite part would have to be the character development throughout the book. Character development is something I look forward to and this book did not disappoint.

I made the unfortunate mistake of requesting this book without having read the first one. I bought and read the first one but I honestly couldn't stand it. I tried to read this one but I just can't get through it either.
Not as engaging as book one but still a really good time. I am however dying to pick up the third and final book!
This was a little bit of an improvement from the first book. There is a little more action. Still, I found the main romance to still be underdeveloped and I unbelievable.
Such a great book! I enjoyed reading this one so much! I highly recommend this book. Side note: the cover!!!! CB AT IT AGAIN
Starting off where Princess left off, this one follows Luca and Ama as they begin to unravel the secrets that place the Sea and Sand and reclaim what is rightfully theirs.
First of Amarande is once again a little naive but a still completely pigheaded in her endeavour to find justice for herself and out *redacted* as the throne stealing thief they are. She's a little older, a little more angry and a whole heap more determined so I'm glad there wasn't a sudden personality change, a thing that I find happens a lot in the second novel of certain YA series.
Luca is still head over heels for the girl he loves but also a tad more mean to those around him because, well, I suspect I would be too if someone had have decided to use me as their poison guinea pig. But he is also venturing out into the Torrent so as to dethrone The Warlord because no transition of power could happen smoothly.
Finally, all the remaining players (the ones who survived the slaughter of *redacted*) are hovering around being their mean as hell selves and attempting to become King/Queen of the World! But also trying to convince people they arent snivelling weasels while they do it.
While this one was enjoyable, I will admit to feeling a meh about the middle half of the novel. It felt a little too convenient and had that same 'but we are only halfway there so DRAMA' feel of Princess - when it happened in the first instalment, I rolled with it. Now it's happened again and I am a tad annoyed. The best way to describe it is that its like a screenwriter is trying to have their 3 act play but someone forgot to tell it needed to be a movie not a tv episode so they wrote a second one and tacked it onto the end.
The action and bloodshed ramped up in this one once you got past the flouncy pandering and instalment of tyrants onto throne on which they dont belong. Loved the fact that all the royals are related because honestly thats actually a thing (hello France and England during the Tudor era). This one had a Red Wedding of sorts and I'm all for mass bloodshed #sorrynotsorry
While it did have a very 3-act-play-but-instead-its-6 feel, the actual writing and prose was quite good (a thing I have come to expect from Henning). Despite it being a YA novel, it didn't feel particularly juvenile in its vocabulary. While I would usually mention worldbuilding around this point, I kind of can't because everything takes place in pretty much the same 2 places that the last one did, to an extent where they literally return to at least 2 of the exact sites of the previous novel.
Overall it wasn't too bad of a read, furthering the narrative to a point that I am actually really looking forward to seeing how it ends. Because after those final pages I am extremely confused as to where it could logically go from here.
The Queen Will Betray You is the second installment of the Sky and Sand trilogy and I absolutely could not put it down. It picks up right where Book One leaves off and is just an adventure from start to finish. I read it in one sitting, from page one to the end. I’m still reeling and so so ready for Book Three. Five stars out of five.
I received an ARC copy of the book from Netgalley (thank you!). The thoughts expressed in this are my own.
