Emily Bass began her career as a political activist who absolutely hated President George W. Bush. But a funny thing happened on the way to global success against AIDS. George W. Bush starts the biggest bilateral funding effort, focused on AIDS in Africa, and makes it grow into the single most successful international aid program in American history. Emily Bass grudgingly recognizes the reality that the government was a big part of the solution, by working together with big pharma and activists to make treatment affordable on a global scale. It's truly a remarkable story. Bass's storytelling is not straightforward, nor very poetic. But her heart is in the right place, and there's a lot of information to impart. Very good readnig for anyone interested in global health.
