So good, so good, so good! Loved every page! fabulous, she knows what she wants and plans to get it.
I never write a spoiler, but really, this is great .I can't wait!! for the next book.
This book had an unique concept.
I wasn’t sure how I felt about some of the twists and turns though. Like the whole
Book I thought she went to jail as a thief but she didn’t. And then her background was resolved *so* quickly. It also set up the next 2-3 books and not subtly.
Katherine married the younger son of a Duke, Meri, thinking it would be the making of her, she didn't expect him to leave her soon after they had married though and neither did she anticipate his death just a few month later. Her husband is good for last final surprise though - he had not only married Katherine but two other women besides her. When Meri's older half-brother Christian, the Duke of Randford, returns to town the news of his brothers three wives is just further proof that his half-brother was just the kind of man, he had always known him to be.
I was very intrigued with the set-up of this story and I enjoyed what the author did with it. It brought the three wives as well as Christian and Katherine together and brought a little drama to the story.
My favorite part of the book was the relationship between Christian and Katherine, they had a nice slow build-up and really got to know each other before things took a more actively romantic route. I loved their pining for each other and how small things got them all hot and bothered for each other. They were such a well matched pair, both of them have such good hearts and work on these really good causes, which made their relationship and chemistry all the more believable. Christian especially endeared himself to me by being such a gentle, kind and understanding person - all while he's frequently bringing out some really romantic lines, you know, the whole package deal of goodness.
They were surrounded by a nice cast of side characters that helped round up the book and they were also set up for their own promising stories, which I am intrigued to read about.
What I did not enjoy were some parts of Katherines backstory I just did not found believable and similarly her marriage to Meri made no sense to me, her reasonings I understood and though we got an explanation from his side it did not convince me that he would marry Kat in the first place.
The POV switched several times mid-chapter without any indicator, which was slightly irritating, much more helpful were the line breaks that were used in the later chapters to separate the two POVs.
A fantastic start to a new series! MacGregor gives you characters you will care about, emotional drama, a high-stakes plot, swoon-worthy dialogue and super steamy sex scenes. In short, everything a historical romance reader wants. I can't wait to read about Constance & the Earl, Beth & Greyson and hopefully Willa & Morgan in a novella!
The title was a little misdirecting. It gave me the impression that there is a time travel or time-slip element to the story. There is not. There IS a compelling story of three women duped into marrying the same man that sucks you in as you wait for the other shoe to drop and their secrets to be exposed.
A beautifull story about three women who married the same man without know it . His brother trying to figure what to do with the wives . A love story about two people with their past still hunting them . Great secondary characters .
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this story. I liked both Katherine and Christian. The plot is unusual for a regency. Katherine after learning her husband died goes in to his Lawyer's offices for the reading of the will and there she meets her husband's half brother Christian. Two other women are there too, who are they? Her husband's other wives. He's a bigamist. Katherine might be the first wife but one of the other wives is about to give birth. After the shock Katherine takes them to her house after some urging of her friend/surrogate mother. The story unfolds from there as the three women form a friendship and Christian who didn't want to get involved ends up of course involved as his honor dictates. Katherine is also trying to reinvent herself and hide her less than perfect past, Christian helps her see that it doesn't matter to him. I'm not sure back then it would have been as easy to fix things and it did happen, I thought, with some handwaving but that is minor quibble. This was a sweet story of love and redemption.
I received this book for an honest review from netgalley #netgalley
I enjoyed this stuff a lot I love historical romance, the characters were very believable. The romance was great sweet and steaming.
I enjoyed this book. It was a nice few hours respite from life and I found the characters intriguing. I thought the plot was well developed. I would continue to read this author and look forward to the next book.
A Duke in Time by Janna MacGregor is a lovely historical romance set in the Regency Period. Katherine is the recently widowed wife of Lord Meriwether Vareck, a wastrel, gambler and womanizer. Christian, gentleman, war hero, Duke of Randford, is Katherine’s brother in law. Our two main characters meet at the reading of Meriwether’s will and it is apparent to both of them and the reader that we are in for a mad romp. Meriwether leaves behind more things than one man could comfortably handle in one lifetime (one of the delights of this book is the many odd things that Meriwether left behind for Christian to make sense of and handle). The most shocking part Meriwether’s tarnished legacy involves the number of wives he left behind....Katherine notes that he was a TRIGAMIST. In Katherine and Christian, Ms. MacGregor has created two complex and infinitely likable characters. Katherine is holding a fine balance between the persona she presents to the world and her true self. On the other hand, Christian is still grappling with a horrible childhood filled with neglect and a lack of parental love and care. The author carefully allows us to see their flaws, their fears but mostly their strengths. Working together to sort out Meriwether’s excessives, Katherine and Christian slowly find true love and unconditional kinship. I especially enjoyed that both of them had a social conscious and tried to help the less fortunate. I started reading Regency Romances over fifty years ago and absolutely love the genre; Ms. MacGregor has crafted a wonderful addition.
In conclusion, I loved this book and it was emotionally resonant....even the secondary characters were extraordinary and I look forward to hopefully reading the stories on the other “wives”.
I received early access to this copy of "A Duke in Time" from NetGalley for review.
Firstly I will say that going into this book I did not have high expectations. I had never heard of Janna MacGregor so I had nothing to base this book on. However, I must say I really enjoyed this book and will definitely read more books from this author.
I was hooked right from the start, the book just jumped right into conflict. You were introduced to all the important characters within the first few pages. I didn't know where it was going to go, there were so many opportunities for this book to go downhill but I was pleasantly surprised and ended up binging this book.
Right away we are introduced to Katherine, a newly made widow who finds out that her absent husband did more than just abandon her hours after they were married. Katherines strong will and kindness really made me like this character. She wasn't your typical damsel in distress that you see in most romance novels. The way she cares about others and not letting her circumstances get in the way of her goals made me really like her as a character. I really enjoyed seeing a strong female lead and it was written really well. The male lead in this novel was also someone who you could easily like and also crush on. Christian "The Duke of Randford" started out as your typical broody male lead, however very quickly you see that there are valid reasons for his hesitation for involving himself. I really enjoyed seeing his character developed and ended really liking him as his own character.
I did find some of the sub-characters didn't have much as their own people, but it did seem like they were involved as a way to introduce characters for a series. I honestly believe we will be seeing Bother Constance and Beth in their own books, or at least I hope so. I see so much potential for these two characters to develop more.
The only complaint I have with the writing of this book was how it jumped from Katherine's perspective to Christians. At times it did confuse me, but once realized it was the other's perspective I was able to look past it. It could have easily been the ereader app I was using which didn't format properly but I wanted to bring that to light.
All in all, I do give this book a solid 4 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed the story and I look forward to reading more from Janna MacGregor.
